The property was spotless, there is no air conditioning as it’s Grade 1 listed but we asked for a fan and it was delivered immediately. The bar is well stocked, food was delicious and well presented. Staff were so helpful nothing was too much trouble. We sat outside on the patio each morning after breakfast and they brought a jug of water with ice and lemon or lime. Gardens were very pretty and well maintained. Lovely big bed and crisp clean sheets. No shower cap though. Coffee and biscuits replenished each morning. Shower was a bit low on pressure but ok.

The plates and food were so hot you couldn’t touch either immediately. I’ve never had anything so hot. My husband burned his hand. This really is a bit dangerous especially for children. I did mention it to the staff but they just said the chef liked to serve it hot (there’s hot and then there’s HOT). There are lots of stairs and steps In the hotel but they do have a lift.

Superior Room was large and very clean. The bed was lovely and comfy. Plenty of storage. Also a large sofa and coffee table. Modern en-suite. Staff were all polite, helpful, and attentive. Great quiet location only a short walk to the centre, but you still have a sea view from the lounges, bar and patios. Good food, although my husband said he'd had better breakfasts elsewhere. Lovely old building with lots of corridors and stairs. A bit creaky in places, but that's to be expected.

My husband didn't enjoy his breakfast as much as he hoped, but that's personal taste. Although we got a parking space, the carpark is quite tight and we saw lots of people struggling to park. They do use part of the garden as an overflow which is helpful.

Beautiful quaint hotel with a 1 min walk to the sea front. Room was very clean, staff were very friendly and helpful. Hotel gardens were beautiful, plenty of areas indoors and outdoors to have a drink/ or one of their amazing afternoon teas. All areas in the hotel were very clean, always a member of staff around if you had any questions Heated indoor pool available

No air conditioning, which meant the rooms were a tad warm at night, but I believe as this is a listed buidling no air con can be fitted - but don't let it put you off. Beds were too soft for my liking

A beautifully relaxed, unpretentious hotel where guests are treated with lovely old-style care and attention. Excellent, freshly cooked breakfast served to your table (no scrabble for rubbery eggs and floppy bacon at a buffet as in so most hotels nowadays) and good lunch and dinner menus that change daily. Staff are hard-working and charming (a shout-out for Bogden and Gabriella who appear, as if by magic, wherever you need them) and the pool is immaculately clean and the perfect temperature. I’ve been visiting ‘the Glen’ for 40 years and was delighted to find that it had modernised discretely but kept its traditional style intact. I’ll be back!

The Royal Glen is a family run hotel and the owners work very hard to keep up a high standard. It has a wonderful relaxed atmosphere. The building is exquisite and Grade 1. One of the owners, Hilary, went out of her way to do extra things for me as I am disabled. The Manager Boson, Gabriella and staff provide an excellent service. In the dining room they cater for all appetites and are eager to please every guest. It has a beautiful indoor pool and they provide the towels.. The pool is accessed down "in pool ladders", not graduated steps, and because of my mobility problems I was unable to use this facility. I have problems with weakness in an arm and opposite leg. The only drawback for me at this hotel was the problem with steps. Many guests make repeated returns.

There are short flights of steps in places which can be a problem for the disabled. but some rooms are easily accessible.

Mum and I had a really lovely stay at this generous , welcoming hotel. Its is situated very close to the beach and also Sidmouth Town is a lovely and short walk from the hotel. We ate breakfast both mornings of our stay and also had one evening meal. Both meals were absolutely delicious and generous portions. The staff were very friendly ,welcoming and attentive.

I am a bit of a coffee snob so that was the only thing I didnt enjoy. Maybe a coffee machine would be a good purchase and with the option to pay for a coffee. I would happily pay for even a machine coffee.

The location of the hotel is 5 mins walk for the promenade at Sidmouth and the spectacular views of the sea and red cliffs to east and west of the town . The hotel is really quaint and traditional with lovely white exterior and Devon Gothic windows . The grounds are lovely too and well kept . The food in the restaurant is really good - Sunday night dinner is splendid with Sunday roast done to perfection . Breakfast is delicious with fresh cooked options - haddock and bubble and squeak on offer . Afternoon tea too and a well stocked bar - all staff helpful and friendly . What more could you want ?the Royal Glen is a real gem in Sidmouth .

Choice of room

The Royal Glen is a real gem of a hotel with its quirky appearance and Victorian connections. We stayed for 4 nights and on arrival our suitcases were taken to our room, The spacious Edinburgh suite. With a kitchenette one end and shower room the other. The sofa and very comfortable twin beds We’re perfect. The hotel has spacious accommodation on the ground floor with large rooms and a separate bar in which to chill out. The food was excellent both for breakfast and evening meals. Staff were friendly and competent. The Manager, Bogdan and his wife, were always at attentive and ‘run a very good ship.’ The swimming pool and modern gym was a pleasure to use. We would highly recommend this hotel and hope to return in the future.

Possible sea views but we were only a few minutes walk to the beach.

Perfect location to walk to the seafront. The hotel is very old but housekeeping do an amazing job keeping it clean and maintained. Chef's food was delicious. Gabby in hospitality gave great customer service, above and beyond, and she is asset to the hotel. I hope they appreciate her. Clean and comfortable room. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

Liked the property very much, our room was very pleasant, may not quite have been a suite as described, but the rest of the hotel was of a very high standard with plenty of places to pass a pleasant hour or two

My main grievance was the breakfast, I think it has to be acknowledged not everyone wants a cooked breakfast, the cold option on offer was lacking in imagination, plain and boring and certainly not worth £10 per head per day
