Great Stay at the Balfour Arms – Comfortable Rooms and Excellent Food We stayed at the Balfour Arms, which offers three guest rooms—two of which we occupied. The rooms feature brand-new, modern bathrooms and very comfortable beds. Each room had tea and coffee making facilities, and ours overlooked the car park in front of the pub. The carpet could use an update, but overall the rooms were clean and pleasant. The pub downstairs is large and lively, with games like billiards and darts available. The food was outstanding—we had a delicious burger with fries and a steak pie, both of which we highly recommend. The kids enjoyed a burger and fish fingers, and both meals were very tasty as well. Since the rooms are located directly above the pub, it can be a bit noisy until around 11:30 pm. However, this didn’t bother us too much. Breakfast is freshly prepared, with both traditional options and modern dishes like avocado on an English muffin with a poached egg. All the staff were very friendly, and overall we would definitely recommend this unique combination of pub and accommodation

The staff were all exceptional. Extremely welcoming with a great customer service ethos. The room was great and the beds and pillows are possibly the best I’ve ever experienced. The breakfast was delicious, with a very good range of options available. The only very slight quibble that stopped this from being a 10 was the limited availability of drinks and food on the evening (my friend had to have her third choice of wine as the first two were unavailable) and several menu items were not available. I understand that they were awaiting a delivery

Staff are amazing, they couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming. We travelled with my daughter and her boyfriend (they got engaged during our stay) who both have additional needs. Simon and Daisy and all the staff treated them with respect and compassion. The rooms were comfortable and clean and the food was delicious and reasonably priced with plenty of choice. We even won a bottle of wine for getting third place in the popular quiz.

My knees didn't like the stairs (I have joint problems) but otherwise there was nothing I didn't enjoy about our stay.

Well positioned near to the town centre and opposite a bus stop for ease of travel. Excellent facilities, large en-suite room that was clean, tidy and very presentable. The staff were absolutely wonderful - nothing was too much trouble. Very friendly, helpful and chatty. Food was beautifully presented, hot and enjoyable. No complaints at all - would definitely come back and would recommend to all. Well worth a visit and enjoyed our stay here very much. Thank you Simon and Daisy for a lovely stay.

There is nothing to complain about - cannot fault it at all.

We had a great stay at the Balfour Arms. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. There was a great breakfast included. Friendly owners and staff. We were there for the music festival so just bed and breakfast

Breakfast was lovely apart from toast - think it would have been vastly improved if they had chosen nicer bread - everything else was great: poached eggs; fried tomotoes bacon - only saying this to hopefully be helpful to the owners we had a lovely stay!

Clean, comfortable large room. Shower with a proper screen so water didn't go all over the floor (and it drained properly), Nice modern fittings in bathroom. Bed quite firm but was comfortable. Quiet enough to sleep with window open despite fronting on to the road. Friendly welcome from Ollie. Friendly bar staff too when I stopped in for a pint after my evening walk to the beach.

No one on hand to take breakfast order. I had to go to the kitchen to find staff.

Fabulous large very comfortable bed,soft clean bedding and fluffy white towels ,lovely on suite bathroom with walk in shower ,coffee making facilities ,shower gel etc all provided and box of tissues ,Excellent value including breakfast.

We stayed on a Monday night so was nice and quiet ,most nights they have to screens with football or quizzes so they worn you pub will be noisy.We we’re lucky to have a quiet night .The pub is a typical pub of its kind ,not really our scene ,breakfast area pretty dismal ,The lovely young couple who run it are hoping to put in new carpet on stairs to bedrooms and do more ,for the money can’t complain and so near to beautiful Sidmouth ,if you can’t afford front line hotels then a good location to stay.

We enjoyed our stay at the Balfour Arms. A nice little pub. Regrettably the room’s window was pretty trashed and wouldn’t open and it was hot so the staff had to fetch portable coolers for us that we needed to leave on all night and which were quite loud. That said, the room was very nice and the bathroom quite new and the staff friendly and the breakfast brilliant. And it was clean. Overall strongly recommended.

Incredibly friendly staff who really looked after us. The food was brilliant and we had a lovely breakfast. Very comfortable and spacious room with a very good ensuite bathroom as well. The bathroom was spacious and very clean, with towels provided. Kettle and hot drinks provision in the room were great too. There was a spacious place to hang clothes (that doubled as a great den!) with hangers, so ideal for keeping things neat. Very good value for money and a great stay. (Photos from after stay, hence not perfectly neat).

The room light is a bit dim, but the side lamps were very good and lit up the room nicely.

Staff were lovely! We stayed in pub in the evening and they allowed us to order food after kitchen closed which was great of them. The room was very comfortable with nice decor. Bathroom was great and shower very nice. Parking was plentiful and straightforward. The pub cat was a joy to meet!

The towels weren’t great but the staff were apologetic for this. (Would recommend other guests bring their own!) There was event on until the early hours which did cause some sleep disruption but appreciate it was a Saturday night so it was to be expected. Location was great for us but others may feel that being closer to the seafront may be better for them.
