The property was clean and located in the perfect spot for us to see family and take a stroll to the town and seafront whilst being able to park your car safely. The staff were so helpful and Jonty was so helpful to us in meeting our requirements. It was so nice to be able to choose the option of eating in the hotel or out. The food was excellent and good portions. Breakfast choices were very important and we managed in just two meals a day as the hearty breakfast kept us going. I would highly recommend this as a hotel for anyone liking a relaxed and quiet break.

The water pressure in the shower was a bit low for my partner but I did not have a problem. So I think that depends what you like.

This is a super hotel, small and compact with lovely outside space to sit and while away the evening with a glass or something without being on top of anyone. The restaurant is bright and airy and the rooms are very very comfortable. We stayed with our in-laws and they said they had the best nights sleep ever ! The thing that really made our stay though was the exceptional staff - they go above and beyond to ensure everything is ok. We could not fault them - they were /are amazing - we were so looked after. So much so our in laws wanted to stay longer !!! They are already talking about returning ! Additionally the pebble beach with lovely bit waters ( we took a dip !) and the lovely little town all within walking distance had so much to offer seafront cafes and restaurants and a good selection of shops - we all really loved our stay here - thank you.

First the staff - they were all very good, The rooms and common areas were clean. We ate breakfast at the hotel which was again excellent with a good choice and was really tasty. Altogether good value for money

We didn’t dislike anything. Our only comment is that we found the evening meal arrangements a bit restrictive in terms of hours available and choice. However, it did look good and we appreciate that the restaurant can’t be serving a large menu and at unlimited times. If the evening meal times had been a bit more open, I’m sure we would have eaten in the restaurant in the evenings as well

Superb, traditional hotel with excellent service. All the staff were polite & helpful - especially the assistant manager. Our room (number 11) was very clean - so too was the ensuite bathroom - albeit a bit small but that didnt bother us as we didnt spend much time in there! It was a real treat to have breakfast served to us - rather than the usual hotel buffet - so our food was cooked fresh to order & hot when served to our table- oh & there's an excellent choice of dishes for breakfast too. We didnt take dinner at the hotel but the menu looked excellent with lots of choice - inc a vegetarian option every night too. If you're looking for a hotel with traditional values & excellent service you'll not be disappointed.

Small bathroom in room 11 - but didn't spoil our stay.

It’s a beautiful well maintained characterful property that’s been tastefully renovated from an old fashioned guesthouse into the clean modern perfectly formed comfortable cosy bedrooms beautifully furnished with everything you need. We had a very pleasant sunny garden view room with a lovely window seat and I must say what lovely staff and manager and exceptional service from the time we arrived to the time we departed. The food is worthy of mention from the delicious porridge to the beautifully cooked breakfast. We will return here to room 2 and look forward to it.

There was absolutely nothing to dislike about this property but I’d like to mention to those that struggle with stairs that they have no lift here so if you’re in a cosy room at the top there’s a lot of stairs to climb.

This quirky hotel is situated in a lovely location within a short walk to the seafront. Well equipped and comfortable rooms. Exceptionally helpful staff which was led by a very attentive and friendly host, Jonty. The breakfast included was very comprehensive and tasty.

What's not to like in this charming quirky hotel? Only perhaps the haute cuisine dinner on offer each night was not particularly suitable for my party which comprised of me and my 13 year old son . I am sure for the right clientele though the menu would be well worth the rather pricey £35 pp for the 3 courses.

The location was excellent for peaceful walking. The food was exceptional. The waiters and chamber maid were very polite and well mannered. The hotel is surrounded by trees in particular a magnificent Monterrey Pine qnd this attracted two species of owl which we heard calling in the night: long eared and tawny. The long eared owl is a mysterious and elusive species; there fore a very special encounter.

The hotel is lovely and set in a beautiful garden. Although an old building (which is a plus) it has been really well maintained. The bedroom I had was top notch, the bathroom modern and all the communal areas were clean and stylish. Situated essentially near the top of the main street you can walk to the seafront either via all the shops or via the Riverside Walk. It's a great location. The owners and staff are very friendly and efficient. The food is wonderful...the chef has this nailed! Parking is good. I will stay here again on my next Sidmouth visit.

There was genuinely nothing I didn't like.

Everything was lovely. Breakfast and dinner superb. Room clean and comfortable. Decor traditional and relaxing. Staff very friendly (especially Angela ) the owner too was present which was nice. Definitely recommend, Definitely will return. BB.

Nothing. In the reviews, someone mentioned the carpets. We loved them. In keeping with the house. Nice for a change, not to have beige carpets and white walls. Lovely 1920 wallpaper too.

Lovely position within a short stroll to both the sea front and the town. Spacious room, light and airy and a very large comfortable bed. Good breakfast and must give a shout out to the young staff members who served us - an absolute credit to the place. The receptionist was also lovely.

The shower was only an electric one and it was ok but a little bit underpowered and the cubicle was quite small.
