Loved the atmosphere, the staff were excellent. But on my second night l wanted some food and because there was a big party booked No food was available..and they had not informed me.The manager did go out for a takeaway and provided me with plate and cutlery , which l thought was excellent !!.. Also at my age 81 and difficult with mobility l needed a walk in shower which was not available and the shower was in the bath whi although low l could not get into and there was no walk in shower rooms available. But apart from that my room was lovely and my whole stay was wonderful. I will certainly return on my next visit to Brighton but obviously try to book a room with walk in shower. Very satisfied Jane Law.
Just the no walk in shower and lack of information about no food on the 2nd night.

The Hotel staff where just great and very helpful during my stay. This is my 1st time stay here. I will make this my hotel when i stay in Brighton agin.
The rack in the bathroom for the towels cannot be turned off. During my stay they was a bit of a heatwave in the UK. So the Bathroom was very hot. I stayed in room 126 nice size room. But the fittings could do with a bit of a update.

I loved how comfortable our room was and we had an incredible view of the ocean from our room. I also loved how clean our room was - they were very thorough and timely. It felt like no one was there, but someone was still there to be attentive to our room and needs. The staff were so kind and helpful as well as constantly available too. The location was so convenient and close to everything - you could see Brighton Palace Pier from our room!
I think that the breakfast at the hotel could be better or more varied day to day. It was nice to have a hot breakfast every morning, but I think it would have been nice to have some changes. Also yes, accessible by elevator, but slow, small/ I know there isn't much you can change about that because it is historical to the building, but just something to consider if you're looking for improvement.

although the hotel is old and in need of a little tlc in some places, we had a very nice few days staying here,The the breakfast's were very good we also ate in the restaurant in the evening and that was also very good and well priced. on arrival we were upgraded to a Seaview room which was very comfortable and warm, All the staff were very friendly and polite and nothing was to much trouble, we would not hesitate to stay here again.
parking can be a problem and expensive, we arrived early and managed to get into the hotel car park at £25 a night, other parking be quite a walk away and up to £40 a night

Great hotel, great location. Staff were extremely helpful on our arrival and during our stay. When we booked in, we were informed that our room had been upgraded, it was a fabulous room with a lovely sea view. It was exceptionally clean, plenty of towels, lovely dressing growns provided. Tea/coffee/milk plentiful. Fridge in room also. Two double beds, really comfortable with a variety of pillow types. Room had a bath with overhead shower. Comfortable seating in the bar area, lovely ornate features. Hotel was 17 mins walk to the train station, straight up from the Promenade. Plenty of buses also if you require transport. I would highly recommend The Old Ship Hotel for your stay. Lovely breakfast with a variety of options. We stayed at the hotel for the Brighton Marathon Weekend, perfect location for running 10K race and an easy walk to Preston Park for the Marathon start and finish on promenade. We would definitely stay again the next time we visit Brighton.

There is an expectation when going to a hotel that even good 3 Star will meet and slightly exceeding those expectations for a higher price can be difficult to justify so what it comes down to is quality, convenience and extra benefits. The Old Ship Hotel is on the Brighton Promende and located within minutes of the Pier, Sea Life Centre, Brighton 360i, Odeon Cinema, Royal Pavillion and the Lanes. You can literally plan an entire day around this location and not have to travel far. We had a Kingsize room and the bed was super comfortable. Dinner, Breakfast and Bar options available onsite and the food at dinner was amazing.
The TV was in an awkward position and very basic. It was hot in the room, it had a ceiling fan that barely moved, but was overall a comfortable experience and the building was built before modern comforts so I wouldn't expect air conditioning and most of the day was spend outside as well.

Fantastic hotel very friendly staff super efficient and helpful. The manager brought up more pillows immediately when requested. Super side sea view. The lift was great fun like being in an old movie. The breakfast was really generous. Super location. Do not hesitate to stay here. The desk in the room was great. An old fashioned feel and a very famous hotel. I got a very good last minute bargain price excellent value for money. Thank you would definitely book again when I am next in Brighton. I also managed to check in earlier than advertised. The reception also offered a left luggage service. Highly recommend. If you are interested in history this is a landmark hotel in Brighton's history. Upon arrival I was given a scroll giving a timeline of this famous hotel. My only regret is that I couldn't stay another night.

The location right on the seafront was perfect, we even had a tiny glimpse of the sea from our room. There was plenty of places to sit in the communal areas and it was lovely sitting looking out to sea and people watching. The staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The bedroom had plenty of storage space if we had needed it. Our room was warm and the bedding clean . The bed was comfortable enough for a one night stay. I think management had tried to rectify any problems as best they could. For what we paid we were more than happy. As we were leaving we did see into a bedroom that looked as if had been refurbished and it looked very nice.
Our room was in need of a refresh but was clean and had everything we needed. It's an old hotel and is showing its age but it had a certain charm about it. There was some noise from another property nearby but it didn't last long and we did find ear plugs the next day that we could have used if we had realised they were there. The shower was a bit temperamental and basic but there was a warning on the wall that the water might take a while to get hot.

From the moment we walked in (which was earlier than check in time)the staff was really friendly, polite &very helpful & checked us in as our upgraded room was ready..Really nicely decorated reception area, restaurant &bar area with a pool table which is only £1 ago ,where else can you get that....The lift is from 1920 a little slower than what we are used too nowadays, but still working (quirky) & a chair from Sir Winston Churchill that he brought to the hotel .. Breakfast was a buffet style, really nice and plentiful, spoilt for choice really, coffee as much as asked for. We had a really nice stay. Thank you. Would stay again.
During our 2 day stay, there wasn't anything that we didn't like

Location was perfect and right on the seafront. The hotel felt very old and virtually untouched as if you were almost stepping back in time. The cranky slow lift, added character too.
This was more of an annoyance really, but the hot water seems to be turned off outside peak hours, presumably to save money. However if you want a lay in till late morning you can forget having a hot shower as all the hot water will be gone. This was our experience on both nights we were there unfortunately. Also our room was very cold, and the radiators did not work. We checked with the porter that the setting was on max heat and he confirmed it was but no heat was coming out. However he supplied us with a radiator which eventually got the room warm.
