A lovely building with quirky touches and a safe ample car park. There is a local pub across the road. Breakfast was excellent’ plentiful and good quality. It’s 1 mile from The White Swan which is a Michelin star pub and the reason we stayed in Fence.

The room and the facility in general was cold on arrival on a cold rainy October afternoon which made it a little unwelcoming. Adjustable shower was broken so my wife had to struggle to keep her hair dry using the rain head shower. Towels were frayed and could do with replacing Nobody was about as we left The experience was a bit of a missed opportunity to dazzle because it really could have been fabulous.

We stayed at the Fence Gate Lodge for two nights with breakfast, and ate twice at the hotel restaurant. The rooms were extremely clean, well presented, with great bathrooms. I could not fault the service from any of the team, from the reception, housekeeping, breakfast service, to pub and restaurant staff. They were all very responsive and polite, and great ambassadors for The Fence Gate. The breakfast was great value and really tasty (home made sausages! Superb black pudding). We ate in the evening at the restaurant. The service, again, was exceptional, and they were responsive to food requirements, clearly advising where there might be an issue. When the food arrived, it was excellent and extremely tasty. The choice of wines was great. We had a family gathering of 12 people on the Sunday, and yet again, service was top rate and so professional. They looked after us very well - we had elderly people with us (with a walker) and they were very sensitive to their requirements. Again, great food, and very professional service. I could not fault them in anyway. I loved the ambience at the hotel, and restaurant / pub; casual and quirky, and very well presented. The whole team were fantastic, in fact, although the rooms were great, the service excellent, the food superb (full marks to the catering staff), the staff were so good that it makes you want to stay there again.

We booked here last minute & so glad we did. Lovely Lodge, dog friendly (they also provide dog bowls, bed & a chew) - our 12yr old Border Collie loved it here. We were in room 1 - ground floor room which was ideal. Room was spotless & couldn’t fault it. We decided to have an evening meal & we liked the concept that a minute up the road was their sister establishment’The FenceGate Inn’ The pies are beautiful, we ate in the pub bit as we had the dog but there’s a restaurant serving dinner. Then a nice walk back to Fence Gate Lodge. The hotel is a wedding venue too but music is turned off at midnight. We had a comfortable nights sleep. Breakfast was lovely & tasty & a good portion - again they catered well for our doggie & set up a table in a nearby room & brought our dog breakfast too. Thank you to the staff for your hospitality. We enjoyed our stay & will be back!

Stayed in room 24 the Linwood suite which was just superb. Beautiful spacious comfortable and simply divine. Attention to detail wonderful. Staff at the lodge were equally wonderful, breakfast superb as were the staff. The Fence Gate restaurant brassiere we felt the service could have been a tad more friendly and inviting. Food was good but not exceptional. Soufflé was stunning but the chicken burger was dry and mediocre which was a shame. But lovely place just didn't get that same welcoming vibe as you get at the lodge which was a shame. Don't like to be negative as we had a wonderful experience from start to finish, but honest feedback is always good for even further improvement. We would one hundred percent book again and perhaps even treat our staff now and again to a break away. We also recommend a visit to The White Swan whilst you are there. Stunning food and service! Well worth the money!

Fence gate brasserie. Didn't not like it, we just felt the service could have been a tad more friendly and inviting and the chicken burger definitely needs rethinking. Soufflé was superb and was the chocolate cheesecake.

Booked a Junior Suite quite last minute due to a family emergency, and the staff have been amazing from start to finish. Greeted warmly upon arrival, and staff went above and beyond with every question and request, no matter how small. The Lodge itself is beautiful, with a mixture of traditional limestone brickwork, wood, and a touch of modernity such as fitments. This is on top of the amazing views out of every window that I looked out of. The evening food, we weren't able to sample unfortunately, due to our own busy schedule, however, the cooked breakfast in the morning was phenomenal. Perfectly seasoned scrambled eggs, and perfectly cooked bacon. The whole plate was delicious. This is a diamond in Lancashire's crown, and we will be returning. Thank you for having us!

The hotel is a beautiful design and the rooms are 5 star. The bed is most comfortable ever slept in and the large walk in shower was lovely. The breakfast was extensive, tasted lovely, perfect poached eggs both mornings. The Fence Gate pub over the road is a bonus, large country pub where we had a private function with a group of friends. The staff were all lovely especially young lady on reception, think her name may have been Keeley or similar?

The hotel was very warm which even the staff commented on.

Very broken sleep a lot of road noise, the phone in the room rang twice at 3.45am, waking us up on the second night, on the third night guests were making a lot of noise in the corridor waking us up at around 1.00am. Due to a function unable to park whenreturning to the hotel in the evening on one occasion.

The attention to detail in regards to the property. The reception staff. Very receptive and friendly , I could not fault them. The breakfast again well cooked and came out warm and served on a hot plate.

The bar should be better stocked A better selection on whiskeys. Wines. Limited range. Which should be available in your standard you are endeavouring to achieve.

The hotel is beautiful and staff are so helpful and friendly. The staff care about your service and that’s very clear to see. We loved the hotel vibe and the restaurant nearby was unbelievable food. They made us feel so comfortable on our first dog holiday and nothing was a fuss to accommodate to. My dogs actually loved her stay and loved her welcome dog treat, bed and considerations made prior to our arrival for my dogs comfort!!

Brilliant, ticks every box. We stay at some very nice places but this place is exceptional. There is a lady called Kirsty who works in the evening on the reception who really is a special person. So welcoming and genuinely lovely who isn’t scripted like most staff in places. We have already recommended it to people we know! We will return very soon.
