Beautiful setting in the middle of Downham village. Our room was in a separate cottage to the left of the pub. This had 3 other rooms and a little communal sitting room - it would be a great place to stay with a group of friends. The room, and especially the bathroom, were really spacious and it was great to have Both a shower and a bath. L'Occitane toiletries were a very welcome surprise! Breakfast was really good with a great choice of delicious things. There was such a lovely lady, with short grey hair, on the housekeeping team who was exceptionally pleasant and kind.

My friend ordered a cappuccino, rather than a pot of coffee with her breakfast. This incurred an extra charge. This seemed a little mean, and surely cost as much to administer as just letting her have that choice of drink with her breakfast would have done.

The room was excellent, clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated with a wonderful view. The evening meal was good and the staff were lovely. The location is idyllic. Tea and coffee and biscuits in the room were very good but as with the toiletries the amount was skimpy with one coffee capsule and one decaff capsule, one small shampoo for two people.

Although the food at breakfast was nice the service was strange. Having booked bed and breakfast being told the cooked breakfast was ‘included in our deal’ felt a bit uncomfortable. My wife ordered fried egg mushrooms and tomato and received an egg (fine) with one mushroom and half a tomato. At least she didn’t put on weight :). There was jam and marmalade but we were not offered toast.

Breakfast freshly cooked pastries, choice of cereals. Juices and range of cooked breakfasts. Food overall at hotel super and we enjoyed an evening of theatre at the local village hall. (Stagetwodownham). Local falconry at Oxenhope SMJ and gliding school in Bowland Forrest. Brontë country an hour away. Ideal location to explore parts of Yorkshire and Lancashire. Room very comfortable - Overall excellent.

Hotel needs a good sweep outside and dogs allowed in bar can get a little smelly as bar area on small side. Need strength to work shower controls .

The location, the staff, the food were all excellent. The hotel is in such a beautiful setting.

I knew we had booked a Cosy room,Room 8, so obviously wasn’t going to be big. The bedding, toiletries etc were all good but I was rather disappointed with the decor! It was tired and the bathroom certainly needed attention. Lots of plaster off the walls , just generally needing attention.

Travelled here for 2 nights with our 2 labradors, given a lovely ground floor room in the cottage next door which had its own enclosed garden, we ate at the pub both nights and the food was faultless.. the staff we saw were lovely, welcoming and helpful, the breakfast was fabulous and the dogs were given a sausage both mornings, the room had complimentary water and coffee etc, fantastic weather and scenery / walks etc.

Wish we could have stayed longer.. absolutely fabulous 😁

The location was absolute perfection with stunning views across the Ribble Valley towards the magnificent Pendle Hill. Nearby Barley with it's beautiful picnic area and streams is ideal for families and both the Sculpture Trail and Pendle Hill can be accessed from this idyllic hamlet. Having shared use of the hotel garden with one other room was an added bonus. With the lovely room, friendly staff, choice of cuisine and beautiful weather, it all added up to the best mini-break imaginable.

If I were to be pernickety in the extreme, not being able to fully close the bathroom door and minor fluctuations in terms of meal presentation. These do not, however, warrant anything less than an overall marking of 10/10.

Breakfast was excellent. Accommodation was very comfortable; good shower, tea and coffee making facilities. The bed was very comfortable too. Food was excellent. Staff were very friendly, in a genuine kind of way.

Nothing, everything was good. (A very small thing, but more choice of real ales at the bar would have been nice; Bowland Brewery, a local brewery was featured, but only 2, both light pale beers; something darker/malty would have been nice.) I must stress that I would definitely stay here again though, because it was so good.

Location was perfect Welcoming ,helpful , friendly staff Lovely room (room 1) Very comfortable bed. Food was fabulous, beautifully cooked and presented, absolutely delicious. Both evening meal and breakfast was of a very high standard which totally made our stay so enjoyable. Well done to the team and thankyou.

Just a small thing but would be great to have an extractor fan in the bathroom and a small fan in the room would be so helpful in the warm weather.

Upon arrival ( early) our room was actually ready so we could enter without waiting for check in time which allowed us to get ready for the wedding we were attending It was a tiny little cottage and was more than what we were expecting. It had a lovely little lounge area upon the entrance with stairs to the next level for the bedroom & bathroom.

We did call for a taxi through the hotel services and unfortunately the taxi didn't arrive on time for us to attend the wedding so we ended up driving ourselves to the venue. Not the hotels fault of course as the taxi service is not linked to the hotel.

The bathroom was lovely, the bed was comfortable and it was in a lovely location. I also liked that it was a key rather than a card to open your door and you could lock it from the inside. The breakfast was lovely. Also we had L'Octaine toiletries which is always a good sign of a good hotel.

Such a small thing but the television light was on all night. The only thing we said would make the room perfect was also having bathrobes.
