The room was better than expected, very comfortable. The bed was huge, and the sofa bed was also a good size and comfortable. We all slept very well. The bathroom was a good size and well equipped. Wifi worked well, and the staff were very attentive. Large car park is very convenient.

The food was average at best, could definitely do much better.

Really nice place and staff

Not the property’s fault but had a very noisy family gathering in and kids were running back and forwards through restaurant several times during our meal and lots of running around above our room late on same family hogged the continental breakfast table

I slept really well, my partner not so much (mattress a little firm for her, although she has had back surgery some time ago). Breakfast was fabulous, I'm a coeliac, asked for a cooked breakfast, couldn't have thier sausages, i said just ask chef to put me what he can out, obviously toast must G/F . I throughly enjoyed it, the exra bacon far made up for lack of sausages. Staff we're very helpful in that we we're early for check in, but took our bag to our room, gave us the room keys & showed fire exits etc. (We couldn't check in later as we we're attending a wedding & reception straight afterwards.

Bar's drinks we're a little expensive. Although its a fabulous building, and to heat/run the place i understand.

The pub is charming and historic, the room was like a filmset from Jacobean period. Spacious room with a huge fireplace, half-timbered walls and steps up to a little balcony for the en-suite, the bed was comfortable and there were plenty of sockets for phone charging. As we were going to a family wedding, the iron, even trouser press were welcome although we didn't need them in the end. Kettle and dink making facilities and fridge, neatly tucked away in the massive wardrobe helped keep the illusion of the past pure. Breakfast was awesome too.

The en-suite was lovely although some of the paint was a bit chipped on the lower section of the bath. The water was very hot, almost too hot, so needed to be cooled down. The lighting, though atmospheric and in keeping with the surrounding, was quite dim, sufficient for getting ready for bed, difficult to read by. We ate in the restaurant when we arrived. The food was good, but no more than usual pub fare.

The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The evening meal was lovely, it was hot, it was just as it said on the menu and there was plenty of choice. The bed was very comfortable with crisp, clean bedding.

The room was very dark. 1 of the ceiling lights had gone and the wall light didn't work. Some tlc was needed in the bathroom. The tiles needed a good clean as did the corner of the bath/floor. This is certainly not a property for people with mobility issues as there are lots of short uneven staircases, which is only to be expected considering the age of this property. One small point there was only 2 teabags, 1 each only for an evening and morning.

A wonderful old historic building in the lovely small town of Tutbury, but also a smart, modern and well run pub / restaurant. Comfortable and lovely old oak beamed room overlooking the high street - the decor is a little run down and in need of refreshment but everything functioned and the feel of the place outweighs any minor shortcomings . Very nice dinner in the evening with efficient and friendly service. Breakfast was superb. Really can’t find fault and good value overall.

I could nitpick about a couple of dud lightbulbs but life is too short for that!

Good choice of type of seating in bar and restaurant areas. Quiet room, in spite of being on main street, and room bigger than expected. Very pleased to have a bath not just shower. Staff generally were very friendly, all except the manager who gave the impression that guests were a necessary nuisance. Huge car park, plenty of space.

Nowhere to hang long clothes eg women's dresses. Bathroom very run down, rusty shower pole and in need of regrouting. Shower only accessible by climbing into slippery bath. The only easily accessible power socket was near the kettle. Carpets throughout very old and worn into big holes in places. Loud, piped pop music all the time in the downstairs areas, no quiet places - even in the loos ☹. Food was ok but no checks done before service. Avocado served brown with a broken poached egg. Sweet potato chips overcooked and soggy.

The staff, Mark the manager and the ancient building. The breakfast choice was very good and cooked to a high standard. The bacon was 1st class.

The building needs some TLC to bring it up to standard. Our bathroom had black mould in the corner of the tiles and a damp patch where water had leaked through the window frame And much of the paint work looked tired It is ashame that building with such potential is let down by lack of investment for maintenance

Lovely old room with multiple beams on all the walls and ceiling. I asked for beams, but was initially a little overwhelmed by just how many there were! however it did not feel at all dark and dingy or unclean and musty. The beams were actually really clean so I soon settled into them. A bit weird having the tea an coffee set up inside the wardrobe, but surprised to also have a little fridge, which was very handy. Old style but good shower, and great deep sink, so could actually get the kettle under the tap! Good cooked breakfast, served quite quick, and a very good selection of help-yourself items too. Good location with eateries and convenience store right opposite. And the castle (for which I came to an event) just down the road. Plenty of parking.

A lot more than I would usually pay for a room as a single occupant. Pillows were hard. For such a small village, it has the buzz of a town, the bar opposite seemed very rowdy outside until really late both nights. Shame the window wasn't bigger to allow for more natural light, but in such a lovely old historic building there's not a lot they could do about that!

Great location in a lovely town. Friendly staff and a good choice of food at dinner and breakfast. Large car park at the property. Comfortable bed in a good sized room.

The stairs! We were at the top so there were a lot of uneven stairs to navigate with our luggage. Can’t be helped as this is an historic building and they cannot install a lift. And neither of us like Greene King beer, but other beverages are available!
