I loved the location of the hotel. Close to Aldi, B&M and other shops at Burton Place.My reason for staying at the hotel is because I take part in the sport of Archery and have been wanting to see the Merlin Archery store.... I loved how close it was and could just walk up the road. Bed was comfortable, bedroom was clean with TV. Kitchen was fully equipped in the Catherine suite With cutlery, kettle, toaster, fridge,freezer, microwave and oven, this was something I was worried about before arriving. Receptionists were helpful. Fresh towels in the bathroom every day.

As the Boiler was in the bedroom it was slightly noisy but I understand that couldn't of been helped and it wasn't anything important to my stay.

The Elizabeth Room was vast for one person. I was shocked to see the huge bathroom with a jacuzzi, it's a pity I could not take advantage of it. It was good to see a long length mirror present. The wall TV was big but I didn't use it. There was a microwave and fridge, ironing board and hairdryer. Every thought catered for. The bed was comfortable. I only had a one night's stay, but that room demanded more.

Not spending more time in there.

I stayed for 2 nights arriving very late and leaving early, so used the hotel only for a bed. The night porter was most helpful. The room was of good size with a very large bathroom. I liked the heated towel rail. Everything was spotlessly clean. The bedclothes, towels and toiletries were all of decent quality, and the bed was comfortable. I did not try the tv or wifi so cannot comment on those. The decor is very dated, but that did not bother me in the slightest, and is built into the pricing, which provides very good value for money in a very convenient location. I did not drive there, but there is a large cap park for those who do. I do not know if they do breakfast, but there is a good Wetherspoons a 5 minute walk from the hotel, which is in itself about a 15 minute walk from the railway station. Parts of the building date from the late 18th century and look good from the main road. Inside it is a large rambling place with some character. Personally I would not like to see it revamped and the room rate double.

A more comfortable chair in the room would have been nice. The room key did not work on my second night, but the night porter helped me so it was no big deal.

The room had an iron & ironing board, microwave & fridge. Receptionist was friendly & helpful.

The room I was in was a tight squeeze but as I was on my own it wasn't a problem. The decor was old & there were scuff marks on the walls. It was a very hot day & although the hotel is the 'roundabout' for the joining roads) it would have been nice to have the choice of being able to open the window. The photos on the website are definitely out of date unless I had the room that has yet to be modernised. I think £50 per night would be a more acceptable price to pay for the room I had.

A wonderful historic hotel in a great location ! All the rooms here are different and quirky and despite the busy roads in the vicinity I enjoyed a good night's sleep ! Nice informal staff . It's a pity there is no restaurant but there are cafes within walking distance . I found Teapot Cafe in Market Square for a hearty breakfast ! 😊

We booked for a 2 night stay we had read the reviews before booking but wasnt really going to be in the hotel much so thought we would give it a chance. On arrival we was greated by a lovely lady who booked us in. Told us that they didnt do food and that there was no bar (which we already knew before booking) I really wasnt expecting our room to be so lovely we had a suite (not booked ) tv downstairs and tv in bedroom a fridge microwave and kettle with tea coffe etc. The bed was so comfy although the furniture was dated it was in very good condition and was fit for purpose. The bathroom was fabulous with a double jacuzzi bath, wifi mirror and double sink. Also able to adjust heating to suit weather conditions. Location was just perfect 5 minutes walk for all amenities such as town centre restaurants bars. Would we book again OH YES.

Its such a shame that there wasnt food or a bar but it didnt spoil our stay in any way.

That we couldn't grab a drink (of the alcoholic variety) ... and a snack... we were hungry and tired

Location is excellent. Very quiet property. Staff friendly and helpful. Room spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Tv, fridge and microwave great to have. This was our second visit, would definitely stay again.

Honestly can't find a fault!

Modern room, some of the furniture not the greatest, but it was large clean and pleasant. Excellent location short walk to the park by the river.

Air con not working, to be fair the property does say no air con, but maybe provide fans, as it is on a busy road and it would be nice not to open the windows for ventilation. Reception area would benefit from being brighter. Staff lovely.

For the money this is great value. I'd definitely book again

the bathroom was on a slightly lower level down steep steps. having bad knees i found this hard but for any normal person this wouldnt be an issue
