Set in the heart of a beautiful country village, the cricketers is charming. The old world pub / bar/ restaurant transports you to quintessential British. Adding to this the staff are friendly, efficient and nothing is too much. We stayed the night in a room with a view of the surrounding countryside, the room itself a mix of cosy, classy beautique romance, perfect. We had Sunday lunch, a plate of classy British Sunday roast, and breakfast was cooked order fresh, quality's tasty! All in all a lovely little night away in a brautifil little gem!

Nothing, if you're on the tall side be aware of the quaint low ceilings!

Excellent location near Audley End in a very picturesque setting, and incredibly convenient to have the pub next door for drinks, food and refreshments. Our room was very large and the bed was very comfortable. The complimentary toiletries provided were heavenly (I placed an order for some as soon as we got home). The breakfast is out of this world - a very plentiful buffet with hot and cold drinks, toast-making facilities and a wide selection of cooked breakfast options. We needed a taxi to and from a concert and the staff were very helpful with phone numbers. The parking is a handy added bonus.

The shower was very low pressure and the fixtures and fittings in the bathroom felt very flimsy. You can hear every footstep/cough from neighbouring rooms.

Rooms were in their own self contained area, like little flats rather than inside the pub itself. Quiet area, no outside noise. Parking was plentiful and easy. Staff friendly and everything clean and comfortable. Large rooms with good quality tea coffee and accessories. Shower was easy to use and hot, bath too. Breakfast was very nice, continental buffet and hot choices from menu. High quality local ingredients. Huge bed and comfortable mattress.

Thin ceilings/ not soundproof from those staying in rooms above and their activities. Unsure how easily this is fixed. A minor detail out of the owner’s control.

We stayed in one of the rooms in the Willows complex. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was huge! Excellent breakfast and we had dinner both nights as well. Good value for money and the staff were attentive and friendly. Highly recommended.

The only thing that would have made our stay perfect would be a couple of comfy chairs in the room. There was a stool at the dressing table and a wicker chair, that was not really comfortable to relax into. The TV seemed to have channel issues as well, but that was just a slight niggle.

I believe we were given an upgraded room which was very nicely decorated and a good size having a settee and chairs. The room was separate to the inn. The old inn was very welcoming, low beams and again tastefully decorated, we had a lovely breakfast there. We were just staying the one night prior to flight out of Stansted.

Unfortunately we both found the bed uncomfortable and I did end up sleeping on the settee. There was also footfall noise from upstairs, earplugs were provided but we didn't need them as occupants obviously settled down for the night and were only heard again in the morning.

We thought it would be a room above a pub, but it was much better. We had an enormous bedroom across the street in a converted bungalow. Could park the car 10 feet away, so readily accessible. Room was warm, well stocked with goodies. Check in was effortless, and we were well looked after in the restaurant by a very nice lady. Breakfast was nice too, and also a nice lady there serving us.

On the second night the nice lady was not there, the restaurant being 'run' by some youngsters who gave very poor service. They were totally inattentive to our existence, and if I had not gone to the bar myself to ask, we would still be waiting for our food and drinks order now!

I love that the rooms are set back away from the public house, you have some privacy , the rooms are lush, beautifully decorated comfortable and I love the fact you get quirky teas coffee sachets and biscuits, they have really put some thought into making your stay extra special, I’ve stayed in this hotel many of times and will do so in the future, the pub is lovely clean staff are amazing they can’t do enough for you all round perfect place to relax and unwind!

Absolutely nothing

The room was clean and nicely decorated with a good selection of teas and coffee and is just across the carpark from the Pub.

The only thing I felt was letting the accommodation down slightly was the bathroom, at this price point I'd like a good shower but unfortunately it was a shower over a bath and low water pressure combined with the large bath taps meant it wasn't great. Could also probably benefit from supplying a fan in the rooms during warmer weather.

This is a wonderful pub in a rural area, but still only 15 minutes from Saffron Walden and within easy reach of London and Cambridge. The rooms are a delight, the pub is gorgeous (very low ceilings - but that's part of the charm and authenticity!), and the staff are exceptional. So kind, caring and attentive. We enjoyed our stay immensely, had a lovely evening meal (remember to book) and a mind-blowingly good breakfast included in the room rate. All in all, a great treat and highly recommended!

Location was perfect for our stop-off en route to Norfolk. The room was beautifully decorated and supremely comfortable although it was a little tricky to plug the kettle in as it really needed an extension lead, but we managed! The dinner we had and the breakfast were both absolutely gorgeous with a great choice and fantastic quality. We would recommend The Cricketers to anyone and will definitely be back.

Only the trickiness of plugging in the kettle. A very small niggle.
