Breakfast: very traditional Full English. All laid out and easy to help yourself. The dog could sit with me (although in the bar area. Room: spacious and comfy. Dinner: there was space to have the dog with me (bar area). Location: Excellent despite storm BERT.

Breakfast: Was lukewarm. Eggs (fried AND scrambled) were overcooked. Plates were cold which didn't help with the lukewarm food. Coffee was machine self-service (this could have been table service). Room: A lot of niggling maintenance issues which, if I was staying longer, I would have reported (reported on check-out). Dinner: The waiter was forgetful - This could be remedied with the use of tablet/computer ordering (many pubs do this why can't a 4-star hotel?). Even a notepad and pencil would have helped. Location: Post Code does not always take you to the front drive. If you are arriving later, and in the dark, it is easy to miss the entrance to the impressive drive (It could have been my Sat Nav).

We stayed in the new annexe of the hotel which meant we could enjoy the beautiful, ornate older building while still having a modern, large and comfortable bedroom. The quality of food in our evening meal was excellent. We also found the staff very helpful, particularly when we had to change our plans before arrival.

For a spa resort, i.e. somewhere where people are trying to improve their health and wellbeing, the breakfast options were a little disappointing, particularly if you wanted vegetarian or vegan food. Some breakfast items incurred an additional charge on top of the usual cost of breakfast. While the evening meals were excellent, the standard was lower for breakfast.

We stayed in one of the modern rooms in the new part of the hotel. The room was lovely and had a very comfortable and large bed, a fantastic bathroom and was very comfortable. The hotel is quite close to the M6 and is easily reached, although once there it is a haven of peace and quiet. The staff were lovely, especially the maitre d' in the brasserie restaurant who remembered that we preferred a quiet table and seated us accordingly at breakfast without needing to be asked.

The Resturant was very very busy and when we checked in (on Friday) we were told that a table for dinner on Saturday wouldn't be possible until almost nine at night - we didn't book and on Saturday were offered a table in the bar area (which was lovely). The hotel is a little distant for alternatives and it's a shame for the Resturant to be booked out so guest have to either eat very very late or drive somewhere else.

Lovely building with a whole load of character and set in a wonderful location. The price for a family of four was incredibly cheap, and with access to the spa facilities we felt it was very good value for money. The gym and sauna were fantastic. Staff were excellent and very helpful and accommodating. Love the large chess board outside too.

There were little things that niggled us, such as some of the corridors felt like they needed a revamp, red carpet and brown/beige wallpaper could be redone to fit in more with the style of the building. The swimming pool reminded me of the one we have at home run by the local council, and the jacuzzi was luke warm and small. The pillows in the room were too soft for some of us, and the TV in the room was small. Like I said, nothing major because we did enjoy our stay and felt that the price we paid was definitely worth it.

The hotel was absolutely amazing. Originally, our booking was in the part of the hotel which I wasn't aware of as I just thought it would book us in original hotel. But we got upgraded that I did have to pay a bit extra 4. The service was great and overall. We had a great time. Definitely would recommend

If IM honest, the food was very disappointing. I booked afternoon tea, which was 35 pounds ahead and the sandwiches were very dry. And overall just wasn't a nice afternoon tea. It really did taste like the sandwiches was left out all day.Or even made the day before. The breakfast was standard. My only really disappointment was. I spent 70 pounds and afternoon tea that we did not hardly eat as it was not very nice.

Paid £50 and upgraded into a feature room in the main house. Room was lovely, large and well equipped. Evening meal we had was nice and good value.

Noisy at breakfast in the dining room. Felt a bit like a works canteen. Breakfast was a bit bland and only just warm. Unable to offer afternoon tea at 1.30pm. Kids running around corridors at 11pm. Boy racers blocked front of hotel and lead up road to park up and take photos of their cars. Took a good while for hotel staff to move them on - having blocked the road for a good number of guests arriving at hotel. Hotel needs a more a la carte restaurant, as well as a 'normal' restaurant.

Martin the chef was amazing! He could not be more accommodating of my mums coeliac’s issues and ensured she had an amazing array of yummy things to eat. He followed this up with some really diligent sightseeing recommendations. It was lovely with him as he was so genuinely engaging. What a great guy! Food esp hash browns were super yummy. Beds wonderfully comfortable. Excellent sized rooms!

Mobile reception terrible but not much hotel can do about this! WiFi connection good! Electrical charging points-come on guys invest in this for your customers! Key card room card situation was a bit rubbish. Let’s stopped working so schelping back reception was a pain. Staff accommodating enough though when seeking support

The main building itself is beautiful; the modern wing was really well decorated and cosy. The room was really comfy and great value for money! We found it a bit difficult to control the heating in there and it wasn't very well sound proofed. The spa was really lovely and warm, and clean, if a bit small; we loved hanging out in the pool. Breakfast was amazing, in terms of quality and choice

More staff are needed in the Brasserie - breakfast was chaotic on the second day, one older gentleman seemed to be the only person working and that made it a bit stressful. We still were fed, however! Dinner was a similar experience - quite overpriced for the quality of the food.

The new wing was nice, the old wing was spectacular but obviously more expensive (we upgraded for last 2 nights of our 8 night stay). Everything was very clean. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Special mention to Will and Dawn for their attention. And thanks to Peter for taking the time to show us their herb garden. As to food, would recommend the pea soup with mint and the baked scottish sea trout as the best dishes.

Sadly we found the food and service in the restaurant poor in comparison with the rest of the establishment. Even though the waiters were all very nice, most seemed to lack the necessary experience to attend to the customers quickly and efficiently, possibly also due to the mishmash organising of their duties (everyone doing a bit of everything). As it also advertises as a Spa, we were surprised there was so little option of healthier meals with more vegetables and salads, as most meals seemed to be fried and/or came with chips.

This property is amazing, almost like walking into a museum which was an added bonus to my stay, it was beautiful. I stayed in the "West Wing", my room was lovely, spacious and very clean. Tea and coffee in the room which I love. The view from my room of the back of the hotel was stunning. The food in the restaurant for evening meal and breakfast was lovely. Plenty of choice and nice and hot. Good deal on the evening meal if prebooked. All the staff were really friendly and helpful and always said hello. Loved the swimming pool and facilities. Definitely recommend this property - I'll be back.

This property would have been a 10+ all round, but sadly no hot water in the shower in my room. The water was very refreshing to say the least, but decided not to say anything at the time as I was having such a nice time and didn't want to spoil my stay by complaining. However, the same cold shower the next morning and when checking out and advised the reception staff, I was told (very nicely) that it was because I was showering at peak times ! Had to ask for a bathrobe to go down to the swimming pool - need to make this clear that some rooms do not have these as standard.
