Girl on reception was welcoming, friendly and professional. Checked us in quickly and provided details we asked about and additional hotel information. Booked us for dinner, without hassle and was pleasant and communicated well throughout our short stay. Other staff were also friendly, professional and efficient, Dinner in the restaurant was excellent with both my meat-eating and my wife's vegetarian choices well catered for (locally produced steak pie was delicious!). Waitress was very helpful evem though she had many guests to deal with, including one unpleasant and unreasonable customer. She dealt with that one in a positive and calm manner, overcoming the overbearing attitude superbly and with great patience. All the front of house staff are to be applauded in their customer service. I can highly recommend this hotel and am sure I will be back next time I visit family in the area.

Grout in some areas of en suite could be fixed up and spare toilet roll could be made available!

Staff were genuinely superb. Best thing about the hotel. Quite a high percentage of young people working there, but showed extreme professionalism and were excellent with all customers as far as I could see. Could not praise them highly enough. Food in restaurant was excellent for the price as well.

Bed wasn't great. There for a week. By the end of the week was looking forward to my own bed. Shower smelled fusty damp as well. Reported this to staff at time. No complaint, but it was definitely off-putting.

The location is good as its very easy to find. The hotel is very clean and staff are always cheerful and professional

The cooked scottish breakfast was a bit beige. I think the option of beans with the cooked Scottish breakfast would have been good. The weather was very warm. The window in the room didn't open very much. This made the room very uncomfortable and stifling hot. This didn't ruin our stay but did make it very difficult to sleep. The view from our window was straight into the roof tiles of the wedding venue area. You could put your hand out the window and touch the tiles that were straight up in front of you.

All food was very good. Staff friendly and helpful. Hotel location was chosen in order to visit Dumfries House, only a short drive away. We enjoyed our stay and hope to return next time we visit the area.

We found the signage of the hotel difficult. We parked in the car park the sat nav took us to but we’re not sure if we could use it or if it was the correct hotel as it was for the town hall next door. The side if the hotel seen from the car park did not have it’s name on, so we had to walk round it to see if it was the right hotel. Not a big problem, but confusing.

Great location for the Bookfest at Dumfries House. Bar staff and waiting staff were friendly and attentive making guests feeling relaxed from the start. Convenient car parking. The bathroom was spacious with both a shower and bath which suited our needs. The full Scottish breakfast was most enjoyable with an option for a smaller portion.

We have stayed at the Dumfries Arms in the past. Although quiet, being at the back of the hotel, the room we were given on this occasion ( no.20) was a bit dark and dingy with its sloping ceiling, poor lighting and dark worn furniture and fabric. We felt it definitely was not worth the price paid for an overnight stay. However, the bed was very comfortable and we had a good sleep and didn't need to be in the room for long. We will return but would prefer a brighter room next time.

staff were exceptional, always polite and always had a smile. The breakfast and main meals were very good, and value for money. The restaurant staff were attentive and efficient. The bar area was quite busy at times, due to functions and weddings, but we always managed a night cap. The drinks are a little pricey, but i suppose they are hotel prices. Special shout out to James the night porter, my husband is a very early riser, and his customer focus was exceptional, providing him with a coffee, and a friendly chat.

our first room, was tiny and very dated, there was a fire light that shone and illuminated the room at night, however on bringing this to the attention of the young receptionist, we were moved no problem.

The food was very good. We ate dinner at the hotel and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I had steak pie with vegetables and mashed potato. All good and the pastry was very light and crispy. Breakfast was served to you and I enjoyed the full Scottish breakfast. It was excellent. As were the staff.

The choice of draught beer in the bar was quite limited, but their choices of malt whisky was exceptional. There must have been more than 40 different whiskies!!

A Hidden Gem – Highly Recommend! I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Dumfries Arms Hotel, and I cannot recommend it highly enough! From the moment we arrived, the warm welcome and excellent service set the tone. The hotel itself is a perfect blend of modern luxury and historic charm. The rooms are beautifully decorated, immaculately clean, and incredibly comfortable. Every detail, from the plush bedding to the stylish furnishings, made for a relaxing and enjoyable experience. The food at the hotel restaurant was outstanding. The menu offered a fantastic selection of beautifully presented, delicious dishes. The staff were attentive and friendly. If you’re looking for a hotel that offers elegance, comfort, and exceptional service, look no further. I will definitely be returning and highly recommend this wonderful establishment!

The breakfast was the only thing that I found a little disappointing - the girl who was on breakfast duty on her own did a sterling job but she needed someone else on duty with her - we had a party of 23 of us for breakfast albeit at different times but no one able to replenish bread for toast or fill milk jugs or refill orange juice etc as needed 2 people serving - eventually a further staff member did help out - otherwise excellent stay & would recommend hotel to friends & family.

Just the breakfast with only one staff member on duty - needed another to be on duty along with her to cater for everyone.

Location for a visit to Dumfries House was excellent. Staff were all most friendly and helpful. There is a lift to first floor bedrooms

Hotel was almost empty so the usual buffet breakfast wasn't made available! Upon request, some fruit was provided and this was lovely and fresh. Despite an accessible room showing on their website and me booking this , non are provided! there are only over the bath showers so my disabled sister had great difficulty in showering. Our room was meant to be Deluxe - not as described! Dark and tired and overpriced!
