We stayed at the most amazing Malmaison hotel, and honestly, it took my breath away from the moment we arrived! 🌟 The building itself was a masterpiece — inside and out, it was flawless. The design, the architecture, the atmosphere… everything felt like it belonged in a luxury magazine. The views? Oh my goodness — absolutely spectacular! Every time I looked out, it felt like a postcard come to life. The staff were beyond wonderful — so kind, attentive, and genuinely eager to make our stay perfect. Every little detail was thought of. Yes, it was a bit of a distance from the city, but that’s exactly what gave it its charm — peaceful, private, and beautifully secluded. And we chose it for that very reason, which

Large rooms, fully fitted out. Good sized, clean bathroom. Great mattress, excellent comfort, good pillows. The usual facilities, tea making, fridge, tv, phone, etc. My room had a view of a the opposite wall, not so good, but daughters room had a sea view, so I guess getting a nice view is down to luck. Reception staff were excellent and very helpful ordering taxi, etc. Lovely, natural outside seating in front of the hotel with views over boats. Good breakfast offer.

Wasn't mad about the decor, looked a bit dated in style, very corporate and not reflecting the 'bones/structure' of the building and location (not that we want full on tartan and nautical!). Fake flowers, not fresh. Very dark interiors. The bar seating was not particularly comfy, again very dark and a bit depressing and dull. Staff at restaurant a bit over fast and efficient. Waiting 18 mins for mains. Chicken Milanese was excellent, prawn linguine not so excellent, in fact, was not mixed properly and 2 mouthfuls gave sharp chilli pains in my stomach, the sauce was not balanced and rounded. Puddings OK, after a 20 min wait for the chocolate soufflé, which I guess is cooked to order.

Lovely property as ever with Malmaison. Fantastic location - scenic and at the centre of the trendy restaurants. Staff very good - really made the difference.

Room needs thinking through better - for example, any hotel at this level has a suitcase stand - here you have to put your suitcase on the desk! No proper plug point next to the bed (so you can’t use your laptop in bed and charge it) just a USB-A socket (which is now out of date). Bathroom toilet handle is 2cms too far left, so stops the toilet seat staying up - Doh!! Things like this should have been spotted during design or rectified during shake-down. The lift (next to our room) has a poorly greased wheel in the pulley system so squeaks constantly - again, a simple maintenance fix that has not been noticed or dealt with but is disturbing for guests in that room.

The location is ideal next to Leith historic dock with many Bars & Fine restaurants A warm welcome from the staff who provided excellent service during my stay Car Park at the hotel was a key feature for me, and parking was easy, available on site at no extra cost. The Tram stop is short walk from hotel and offers a direct transport connection with the Edinburgh City centre and the Airport. My room was spacious and had a comfortable bed, the bathroom was excellent with both bath & separate shower cubicle.

It was a little noisy outside the Hotel on the night I was there, which was a hot mid-summer Friday night. Because it was hot in the room it was necessary to sleep with the windows open. The noise ended after midnight as the local Bars & Restaurants closed. It did not ruin my stay

Arrival at hotel, warm and welcoming, greeted with haggis ball and a mini drink. Room had everything we needed including safe and a mini fridge. Shower and bath in bathroom excellent. Loved the extras including, coffee machine, chocolates and massage soap. Great location easy to walk to the tram for the city. Had room service which was delivered quickly and was delicious. Free car parking, we had no issues but not secure.

Pillows were very soft, no alternative options. Would have liked improved security, to have to use swipe card to access lift and stairs, as anyone can enter bedroom corridors.

The location was easy and quick to get to by tram from city centre and we liked the fact that it was outwith the hustle and bustle of a busy July in Edinburgh. Some lovely little restaurants close by too, and a cinema a tram stop away. Room was a good size and comfortable.

Room was very dark and the lighting wasn’t great. The bedside lights felt too bright at night. Our room was close to the lift and we heard it ‘squeaking’ a lot during the night.

The visit was to celebrate both our 30th anniversary and my wife's birthday. On arrival we were upgraded to room 320, which was fantastic in every department including facilities, location with amazing views through the triple-aspect windows. Couldn't wish for a better room. Although we did not dine at the hotel we had a drink in the bar which was excellent with courteous, pleasant and knowledgeable staff. The reception staff were also lovely, helpful and efficient

The only problem we encountered, and it seems petty, considering we had a fanstastic stay, was there was a section of carpet at the bottom of the bed which was threadbare. Disappointing for such a great roo,, which took a little bit of the shine of an otherwise perfect stay

We loved the friendly front of house. Especially Chris he was great. He welcomed us with a warm smile and was very informative about things to do during our stay. We found it easy to chat to him. He was engaging and asked each time we saw him, what were our plans or how was our day. The hotel was lovely, the design and the room we stayed in was well put together. We enjoyed the location being away from the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh. The city center was easily accessed as the tram stop was located around the corner from the hotel and a tram direct every 6 minutes meant not waiting around. The little larder in Edinburgh do a lovely gourmet porridge. 😊 We also enjoyed an evening at the bar, the drinks were top quality including the cocktails !!!. We would quite happily come stay at Malmaison again.

The location is great for Edinburgh free parking is a real bonus , we left the car at the hotel and took the tram which is around the corner The Shore tram stop to Princess Street the heart of Edinburgh journey approximately 25 minutes. I booked a standard twin room for me & my sister I didn’t realise that standard rooms all have the shower over the bath. We were allocated a lovely room however I have mobility issues my fault entirely I should’ve informed the hotel before arriving. I phoned reception and they were excellent very accommodating they agreed to move us to another room with a walk in shower so much better for me. A lovely member of staff showed us the new room as they were fully booked it was the only room available with a queen bed which was the compromise that we decided to make in order to have a walk in shower on initial inspection the room looked great so we gladly agreed to swap rooms. The power shower was amazing rain shower and hand held shower head however the bathroom door didn’t close properly it had swollen after painting and needs attention no problem for us as we are sisters, the shower also didn’t drain very well the drain needs cleaning out, a minor issue I suppose however there were ring stains on the wooden furniture and marks ( possibly burn marks) on the long leather seat under the mirror. I was quite disappointed as I stay in a lot of luxury hotels in standard rooms and I felt this was a real shame as I was supposed to be treating my sister to a little luxury for a couple of nights I now realise that I should have upgraded to a superior room I suppose I just thought that a standard room at a Malmaison hotel wouldn’t have maintenance issues to be honest. Years ago I was a housekeeper in a 4 star hotel in Amsterdam and room maintenance was a number 1 priority. I have to say though the rest of the hotel was lovely the staff are great very welcoming and the food is delicious we booked half board and all the meals were amazing.

The room was great, spacious with a very comfortable bed and bed linen. The bathroom also was spacious enough with plenty of storage. It is all very conveniently located and exactly what we required from an accommodation perspective.

The lighting in the room/bathroom could be better for applying makeup etc. (especially when going to a posh do as we were!) The breakfast was disappointing and overpriced, the cold buffet part was fine but the cooked part was poor and rather disingenuous in that a pretence is made of it being cooked to order which, when it arrived, clearly isn't - it's pre-cooked and kept warm and at £23 per head was terrible value. We were also disappointed that the bar was shut at midnight, not just on a Saturday but it was Burn's Night too! We were told we could have room service but that is hardly a good substitute for drinks in the bar with friends.
