The location was perfect for our purposes, a short walk to the Cathedral and (in the other direction) to the quayside, with its restaurants, information centre and boat trips. Our room was a good size, quiet, and with everything we needed to make our stay of six nights very comfortable. The breakfasts were very good, even when the hotel was full of guests. Perfect scrambled eggs and everything else to get our active days off to a good start. All the members of staff were very pleasant, and worked to a high standard. Special mention for Dawn, who is a lovely lady and made us feel cared for throughout our stay. We will definitely put Holiday Inn hotels at the top of our list for other staycations, and hope that they meet Exeter standards.

We liked everything.

Accommodation was perfect for our needs and rooms great and comfy, breakfast also good

The member of staff that booked us in was lovely and super helpful, and also was working the following day and greeted us warmly. There was a woman working, she had a black uniform so I assumed a manager who was extremely rude, spoke very abruptly to the gentleman servicing us and I heard her swearing under her breath. She appeared to be a senior member of staff but in my opinion, shouldn’t be. Or at least should be spoken to to tell her her behaviour was not acceptable.

The room was good. There were no unnecessary annoying lights in the room, so it was properly dark with the curtains closed and the lights off. It was very quiet. We did not hear any noise from other guests. We loved the pets policy. Although we no longer have a dog, we enjoyed seeing the dogs of other guests and it gave us an excuse to chat.

The main lights in the room were too bright. It could have done with a middle option between the main lights and the bedside reading lights The dining area was too crowded at breakfast time, people kept bumping our chairs. May be extend breakfast to 10:00 every day rather than just a weekends so as to avoid the 9:00 rush and remove a table so that they can be spaced out a little more? The evening menu was very limited and the quality was sub-standard. We only ate in once and it had a "ready-meal" quality to it.

Ideal location (we have stayed here before), by the River Exe, close to University, St David's station, the historic Quayside, and Exeter town centre. Really welcoming and wonderfully set up quiet room. Mains and USB power points each side of the bed were very welcome, which is not always the case in many hotels, including other Holiday Inn Expresses... Excellent breakfast including Marmite for those marmite lovers...

Separate paid car parking, £16 a day and we did pay on arrival only to not find a space late on our last night... Street parking was free until 11:00 on the Sunday, though.

Fine hotel located about 10 minutes down hill from the city centre. The staff were super helpful and the breakfast was excellent. Breakfast staff were most efficient in keeping supplies topped up for the multitude of guests. As a plus, parking available on site.

Like all H.I. Express hotels that we have experienced, the room was lacking in adequate space to hang clothes and offered only one chair for comfort. Otherwise, clean and comfortable. Ideal for one or two nights if you don't need to unpack.

I spend three nights at the Holiday Inn Express - Exeter and seldom have I experienced such a service-orientated and friendly group of hotel staff, without expection. For me, the location was perfect, just next to the river, not too far from the centre of town. Breakfast was good with a variety of English fare, and most importantly, the coffee was excellent. Even when I remained in my room til late morning, the cleaning service took care that everything was immaculate for the next evening. I'll be back!

Nothing at all comes to mind...

A comfy night and nice breakfast but the bacon chef must have been off duty

Car park for our overnight stay was charged at £16. I literally could not believe that they charged so much to their guests. They obviously get a lot of stick about how much the car park is and I witnessed it on two occasions. Their excuse is that they don’t own the car park, but it is literally in the grounds of the hotel And I think that they could easily negotiate discounted parking for their guests. I would not stay here again on principle.

Staff could not have been more helpul especially Joardan in that he found me a parking space (his own) when we returned from Westpoint to find the car park, for which I had already paid full. (This is a council operateted CP with an electronic number plate recognition and departure time log system so how can it be oversubscribed?) Direct connection phone to Apple Taxis which, for us, was very useful to get to main centre as partner is disabled and Hotel is well below the high geographical points of the city. Very comfortable beds and proper twin rooms and even a choice of pillows.

Room a a little on the small side , OK for 1 or 2 days but would be challenging for longer stay.

Breakfast was very good especially the cooked items :-) Rooms are very comfortable but designed with little space around the bed area e.g. narrow gap between far side of bed and window. Quite difficult to navigate for a less mobile person. Parking was easy and we thought £16.00 for up to 24 hours was very good value.

See above about the space in the room - but can accept that it is difficult to make them larger without compromising on the number of rooms available overall.

The helpfulness of the staff was particularly evident, they couldn't have been more welcoming & really made us feel they appreciated our custom. The cleanliness of the whole building was exceptional, the shower rooms, looked like we were the first users & the bedroom was spotless. The air conditioning was really appreciated after a long, hot journey., easy to use & very effective. There was excellent choice for breakfast, cooked, pastries, fruit, etc, etc, with eat as much as you like, self service & no rush to leave our table.

If I was to be extra, extra, extra picky, we would have preferred to have skimmed milk, in the restaurant, but realise that if it's not often requested, that you're not likely to have it available. Full cream, semi skimmed & oat milk were available.
