We were greeted by a nice man at the door who showed us about the main bar and room . We had room 4 by the main door which wasn’t a bother the room was decorated lovely and cosy the bed was very comfortable and so clean . I loved the little complimentary mini toiletries on our towels on the bed. The bar was only at the end of the hall and door soundproof was very good you couldn’t hear a single thing unless someone opened it but I didn’t care as they played some decent music it was just a shame I couldn’t join in the fun we where too tired from our beach walks . All round a lovely place we felt looked after and would definitely come back again .

As others have said, staff were fantastic, really helpful, very pleasant and willing to share local knowledge and make you feel welcome. Housekeeping checked in every day to see if there was anything that needed topping up. Really nice unexpected touch was little bottles of shampoo/shower gel etc (this is pitted as a 'bargain' type hotel so you wouldnt normally get little things like that). Also provided bottles of water, not just the standard tea/coffee which was great, and biscoff biscuits. Towels were really big, which were perfect as well as hangers in the room with enough hanging space for a short stay. The plug sockets either side of the bed were great and as a bonus each had USB sockets included. The location of the hotel is also absolutely spot on The Skuba bar is attached to the hotel and as others have also commented, once you close the door to your room, you cant hear anything so isnt an issue

Remember this is a budget hotel so dont complain if you dont find certain 5 star elements - the hotel is more than great for the price you pay though. Yes it is a little worn and yes could do with redecorating in certain areas but as long as you dont have unrealistic expectations, it should more than meet your needs for a great stay. The only key downside with the room I had was no net curtains (and it wasnt a biggie) - it meant the room was completely overlooked by the hotel across the road. You can just close the curtains each time but is a bit of a faff during the daytime having to do it every time you want to get changed, come out of the shower etc but definitely not the end of the world

Great welcome from the friendly staff, wonderful family room with plenty of space. The room was clean and well appointed, showing off its old building charm well. Lovely touch of individual complimentary toiletries and my children were delighted with the complimentary chocolate. Generous stock of tea and coffee facilities. On site bar access was a bonus I didn't expect and a lovely end to our quick overnight in Folkestone. I would use this hotel again as 1st choice before looking elsewhere. Easy access to the beachfront and Le Shuttle. Plenty of parking options. A great find for my large family looking for a budget stay.

Arrived at the portland hotel on Sunday afternoon. Found parking straight away right outside the front of the hotel. Door was answered immediately by a really helpful member of staff who explained everything very clearly and showed me to the room and told me about the facilities that were available. The room was excellent with plenty of room for a family. Very clean and tidy. Excellent location with a short walk to the beach through some lovely gardens. Great views. Food and entertainment was spot on at the hotel. Will 100% recommend to anyone who is travelling to folkestone and will be definitely using again!

The location was excellent. Right on the sea front with lovely walks in both directions. Plenty of parking too. The room was fine, a bit warm but it was an unusual heatwave. Bathroom fine, a bit tired but no actual complaints. Family room was quite spacious. Shampoo etc and mints were a nice touch. Staff member was helpful. Excellent value for money too. Recommended

A disco was on in the bar till 1pm and though it wasn't terribly loud in the room, we could still hear it. Apart from that, no real complaints and would definitely stay again

Our experience here was amazing. We arrived late at night after a long day of travelling and were greeted so warmly and made to feel really welcome. The gentleman that checked us in was brilliant and an absolute gem. The room was absolutely brilliant! We were so impressed with the facilities in the room from the size, the bathroom/room layout, the little tea station and the best tv we've ever seen in a hotel. The beds were extremely comfortable and we all had an amazing sleep. The pillows were so plushy and the duvets so soft and cosy. We will definitely be using this hotel as our base for all future trips when crossing the channel!

Great location right next to the sea front and a short walk to town. Perfect for early morning and late nights from the channel tunnel which is why we used it. The family room was huge and very comfortable, it was a hot night in summer but a fan was provided without asking! It is an old fashioned building but the room was bright and clean. Being next to the bar didn't bother us even on a Saturday night especially with the TV on you wouldn't even know!

Parking is tricky especially if you're leaving early or arriving late but it is possible to get lucky with a space outside the hotel.

Check in was smooth, staff were very friendly, helped with the key that didn't work in the outside lock and changed it for me, very spacious room, fairly comfortable beds, warm and cosy feel to the hotel, decor is a little dated, but the whole hotel is a very old building to start with, free WiFi throughout and 10% off food and drink in house. And the location is perfect. Right on the beach front and close enough for staying at if using the Eurotunnel like we did.

Can be noisy in the evenings with the live band, but they do tell you when it stops. Bar and restaurant can get busy some evenings. Some of the mattresses are quite hard.

Close enough to Le Shuttle to be really convenient. Parking might have been difficult so we booked one of the spaces directly outside, also under their CCTV. £6 well spent, I think. The bar was fine, and 10% off for residents was an unexpected bonus. We didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment, but that's because they were fully booked for Sunday lunch on father's day - probably another positive.

The room was a bit small, but we were only there to sleep and the price was pretty good so it was perfectly adequate. There was quite a bit of noise outside late at night (Sunday) but that's not something they can control.

Really good sized family room and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is obviously old and there are some areas that need updating. We only stopped for 1 night for catching the Eurotunnel but this will be my first choice when travelling to Europe again.

Level of cleanliness was a bit below par.
