There wasn't anything to dislike about this hotel. Our room was spacious and the decor was relaxing and the room was in a quiet location as requested. Breakfast offered a good variety and was extremely enjoyable looking out over the harbour. The lovely warm water in the swimming pool was one of the highlights of our stay.

The only disappointing factor was that the spa pool was not available and possibly being refurbished. I intended to ask on checking out for the purpose of the review, however, I forgot! I did know that others had commented on this and perhaps the hotel could amend their ad to state what the current status is so that others are not disappointed.

The room was a decent size and well equipped. The bed was comfortable and even though we weren't expecting the room to be serviced (as indicated in the welcome sheet) it still was. The breakfast buffet was lovely and hot dishes were hot. The location was excellent and some lovely views. There was a pool and steam room, but unfortunately didn;t have time to use them.

The towels in the bathroom could have been larger and fluffier. The online check in appeared not to be working correctly. The T&Cs didn't appear and even when I signed my name it refused to go through to the next stage., however on arrival the receptionist advised it had worked. I also couldnt change the number of guests in the room.

Upgraded to very nice room.

Dinner: The Starter and pudding were good. For the main course, I ordered Chicken masala and was very disappointed. It tasted like chicken in a tomato sauce. All I got from the chef was an apology. My wife ordered Pan seared seabass that was a lot smaller in size than we have had at other places. The fish was nice, but the fish skin was not nice and crispy as expected. The accompanying Tandoori prawns were tasteless. Breakfast - scrambled egg was mashed very fine ( maybe made from powdered egg?) and runny, couldn't eat mine, so went back for the fried egg. Bacon looked good, but had been cooked for some time and was tough to cut and eat. Mushrooms were on the cold side, It had all the components of a good breakfast, shame it wasn't.

The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The room was spotlessly clean. The Dyson heater/fan was a good idea. The food at dinner was good. Breakfast was very relaxed. Everything you could think of was available. The dining room was lovely facing the harbour and a glorious sunset every evening. The hotel is near the Billy line, a disused railway track. It’s a lovely walk via the oyster beds all the way to the beach, about 6 k.

Some of the corridors could go with freshening up and a kick of paint. The public seating and bar area tended to be cold and not very inviting.

Not sure if we were upgraded but the bedroom was larger and plusher than anticipated. There was a very joyous and jovial lady who was a staff member at breakfast, her rapport with my 5yo daughter was great - she spoke directly to her (which is a rarity in restaurants) and even took an interest in her magazine.

We weren't aware untill we arrived that children can only swim in the pool at certain times. We were on an overnight trip, which when we arrived about 5.30pm we had missed the afternoon slot, and had to check out at 11am when the morning slot is. My daughter was really excited to swim before breakfast but we weren't able to do that. Yes, we were told we could still use the facilities right after checkout but that's slap bang in the middle of the day. (I think the times were 11am and 3pm)

Our room was perfectly comfortable. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was amazing and the location was ideal for visiting other towns. There is a bus stop at the top of the road and you can go in both directions - see the rest of the island or cross the bridge into Havant. Buses from there visit Southsea, Portsmouth and Chichester etc.

Heating - although we did have adequate heating in our room. The corridors were a bit cool but I think that was a good idea with regard to keeping everyone safe (since Covid is on the increase).

Bedroom very comfortable & well-appointed. Public areas, eg bars & restaurant nice & spacious & welcoming. Staff very attentive & good throughout. Good range of choices at breakfast. I had the vegetarian 'Special' on the December menu and it was amazing - really substantial, colourful & tasty. The swimming pool complex is fantastic - the best I've come across in a hotel - large really warm pool, good steam room etc. Plenty of (free) parking available.

I don't really like to write anything negative when the overall experience has been so good, but I guess the mattress was a bit soft for me - that could just be personal taste though.

Staff were really friendly. Room was very nice and clean and toiletries supplied were nice and good quality. Room was great value for money especially being NYE. The breakfast we had delivered to the room which was a nice option with only a small extra charge.

The breakfast we ordered to our room wasn't very hot at all and the coffee was all spilt over everything which we understand during busy times it may be difficult but it did seem like it had been sat for a while as even the coffee was cold. Our dinner table in the function room was sat right next to a fire door which wouldn't close properly and staff kept coming in and out which caused a very uncomfortable cold draft. The drinks were expensive and was disappointed by the espresso martini which was pre-made (didn't realise when ordering) and I had to send back and get another drink as it wasn't nice.

Overall very pleasant indeed , with helpful and cheerful staff. Breakfast really good. The Club really good.( gym and swim )

The exterior ( both levels ) of the building around the main entrance could do with a coat of paint ; looks a little shabby. Unannounced fire alarm test Wednesday morning. Extortionate £5 charge for room service delivery of a meal. ( All of 30 seconds from the kitchen : my Indian restaurant only charges £2 to travel two miles ! ) No fridge in room. Discounts / promotions for returning guests ' ongoing visits ?

Originally I was booked into a double room. In need of being refurbished. Sink in bathroom large score which may harbour germs. Television as screen damaged. Telephone out of order so I had to gain access via my mobile to speak to the receptionist. However Jess on the main reception desk was excellent. She arranged an upgrade to a superior room. She also met me at my initial room and helped me with my luggage making sure I was happy with the change. Very professional and a valuable member of the staff. Following my change of room I had a lovely stay. Great breakfast and staff. I do think that a total refurbishment of one side of the hotel needs to be a plan for the near future.old
