You are out in the Scottish countryside and it is beautiful! The little town is quaint and worth exploring. The rooms are beautiful, comfortable and a good size. The staff are amazing and so very friendly! Food is good. We had the breakfast as part of our stay and it was very good with a selection of hot and cold offerings, but it is the same each day. The X62 bus is just in town and will take you to Edinburgh round trip for 15 pounds. The pool is a perfect temperature, clean and relaxing. The hotel is beautiful and I loved the little touches of pictures of the previous owner and her animals around the hotel.

There is no transportation from where the bus drops you off at the bottom of a steep road that leads to the castle. It is a good 1000 steps up, so hauling luggage was not a great time. The place does not have AC, which usually isn't an issues, but they had a heat wave while we were there and we absolutely sweltered in the room, But prop the door open and let the breeze from the hallway come in and you are ok.

The breakfast was lovely, fresh every morning and we could pick what we wanted. We didnt like the sausages they were hard but there was plenty choice. The staff were great, we met the Chef Sandra on our way to our room one evening, what an amazing person she is, we got a trio of little deserts on a plate with congratulations written in chocolate, a lovely touch i will not forget. A big thankyou to Jamie, Luke and Esme for waiting on us, the barman, im sorry i didnt get his name was friendly and worked hard. We were lucky enough to be here when the bands were playing in Peebles, we will definately be back with our wee dog Bruce nxt time, we look forward to coming back next year xx

The sausages🫣 We honestly could not fault our stay

Arriving at Barony Castle was a lovely surprise, a beautiful building set in extensive well maintained grounds. Noah on the front desk was very welcoming. All hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful, which made our stay very pleasant. The dining room was fine, the service was exceptionally good as also was the meal each evening. Lovely atmosphere. Breakfast was more than adequate and staff were very attentive. Very relaxed.

Booked the hotel through Booking.com and unfortunately they didn't offer the room we wanted. The room was a little small for the price, and the single bed was very uncomfortable. We will book directly with the hotel next time.

Enjoyed using the gym. It is small but had enough equipment to do a decent workout. All of the staff in the hotel were lovely and friendly even when they were under a bit of pressure due to the water being off for part of our stay. The food was amazing in the evening. We ate off of both menus and enjoyed both meals. Bar prices weren't too overpriced similar prices to most places these days. The room was a decent size and nice and clean.

I struggled with the bed. The mattress gave me a sore back. The swimming pool is a nice area but it can be accessed by other people out with the hotel and 5 teenagers turned up not long after I came in to use the pool with a ball. It's not a big pool so I was unable to swim. I also couldn't use the heated beds at the side of the pool as I was constantly being splashed. Nothing against kids using the pool but it may be better if you have adult only sessions at certain times of the day or hotel patrons only sessions so that it is a bit quieter. The breakfast was a bit bland. Croissants but no other pastries available. No vegetarian alternatives to sausage and bacon just your standard tomato, tattie scones and eggs on offer at the buffet and the eggs were not great.

All of the staff were amazing, so, so friendly and very helpful. I witnessed one young female staff member being spoken to appallingly by a very rude guest & even she managed to remain friendly, polite and helpful! The facilities, the food, the pool and bar are excellent. Love the location and the castle-y vibes! Some parts of the hotel are a little worn....but it adds to the charm! The grounds too are beautiful, it is so peaceful and magical staying there. It is just a short drive to Peebles itself, which is a beautiful little town full of independent shops, lovely cafes and very friendly people. We would definitely stay again.

As an enthusiastic hiker with a penchant for the great outdoors, I found this delightful establishment to be an absolute gem. It's a sanctuary where the weary rambler may restore both body and spirit. After a vigorous day's march through the surrounding hills, I took great pleasure in the hotel's splendid swimming pool and sauna, which proved most rejuvenating. The restaurant deserves particular acclaim; each dish was a triumph, and the chef is clearly a virtuoso of the culinary arts. Nestled in a most picturesque location with a view so stunning it could rouse the muse of a landscape painter, this haven offers not merely accommodation, but a restorative experience of the highest order.

While my stay was, on the whole, most agreeable, I must confess there were a few less-than-delightful particulars that merit mention. The walls, regrettably, were of such slender constitution that I became all too acquainted with the nocturnal rumblings of my neighbour - a gentleman of formidable snoring prowess. The bathing facilities, though quaint in appearance, featured a rather diminutive bathtub where one might have hoped for a more commodious and invigorating shower. Most troubling, however, was the presence of mould in the bathroom - an unfortunate oversight that somewhat marred the otherwise genteel atmosphere of the establishment.

The room was simple, but comfortable, and perfectly suited to our needs. Those wishing large rooms or suites will find these readily available, but we didn't need such facilities. The staff, from the moment of our arrival to the time we left, were exceptional - friendly, helpful and always prepared to go the extra mile. In particular, when we found that we had a slow puncture, the receptionist arranged an appointment at a local garage for a repair and the hotel handyman pumped it up to allow us to get there. You won't get that level of service in many places! The pool and associated facilities were very good, and added to the overall pleasure of the trip. My wife is gluten intolerant, and we are agreed that the menu at the hotel made greater provision, across all meals, for someone with this condition than anywhere else we have stayed in the last decade. Even the dough for the GF pizzas is made on site! And they are a full 12" in diameter! We enjoyed a walk in the grounds and the Great Polish Map of Scotland, a relief map of the country, should be better known. The hotel provides a brochure giving the history of the building and grounds, a map of the latter and background on the major items of interest on site. This is an ideal base for visiting most of the Border area - we spent some time in Peebles and enjoyed a walk along the Tweed (see second image) and visited Dawyck Gardens and Rosslyn Chapel, among other places. We intend to return soon.

If you were going to be very 'picky', you could say that the room was tired, with squeaky floorboards, but the hotel is in the process of refurbishing the rooms, so this is really not an issue, and the impact upon our stay was minimal. In any case, the room was clean and the friendliness of the staff and everything else about our experience more than compensated for what can only be described as a minor quibble.

Stunning location Staff excellent in all areas but especially to the reception staff and the cleaning lady on the first floor who was always laughing and smiling ( didn’t catch her name but I wish I did )

Carpets need replacing. They are very worn in some place ,ripping and also a horrific piece of wood holding the carpet in place ie first floor . This has sadly let your castle down ROOM DOORS These do not lock by themselves and you have to put them shut which then causes a loud bang and if someone is still sleeping in the room this does wake them . I also noticed when walking along the corridor that a number of doors where still open this could cause issues

The location, food and staff were outstanding. The hotel is dog friendly and surrounded by beautiful walks. The dogs can join you for dinner in the bar area and the rooms suitable for dogs are well placed. The food was wonderful and the chef was extremely accommodating when I asked for a recipe for one of the dishes. The staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

We had a small issue with our bedroom but it was rectified quickly and without fuss. It printed us to stay an extra night.

Staff were fantastic and dealt with the issues we had swiftly. Food was simple but tasty (3 course meal as part of a function and breakfast). Overall good but fairly basic for a 4*. We sadly didn't use the Spa facilities. These might and ramped up my opinion.

Being an older building the rooms were so hot/trapped the heat. They supplied fans in the rooms but had very little impact. We had the window opened and radiators (except bathroom as we couldn't turn that off) turned off. Our original room also had an issue with the sink plug being locked in the down position and we couldn't remove. It was quite an old fashioned room and when we were moved rooms, the new room had robes and slippers (we didn't use but it seemed weird we had it in one room but the other).
