Great location, lovely view. Large spacious rooms, comfortable bed. Blackout curtains that were really effective. Excellent customer service with helpful, friendly and kind staff.

Could do with slightly better lights coverage on drive between property and main road - we walked back from the bus stop one evening and the track mostly pitch black until close to the property (same route as cars take)

The staff is amazing, especially Greek lady from reception. We had some issues with our booking (mistake of the booking.com who booked for us 4 different rooms for our stays, so we would be supposed to move from one to other room basically after every night). But the receptionist solved this problem straight away and just upgraded us higher category room. They also prepared a take away breakfast for us, when we are not able to attend one, because we were leaving too early. Interior is really cool, proper Scottish vibes :)

- there was no hot water in the room one of the mornings, but the staff solved this problem quite fast - the waiting time at breakfast was a bit too long

Arranged our 2-night stay as a combination birthday present for my wife and an alternative for our honeymoon (which we had to cancel in May due to a parent being hospitalised). We chose the location as part of our trip to Edinburgh for the 75th Military Tattoo (which unfortunately was cancelled on the night we had tickets for due to Storm Floris). The Castle and grounds are at the end of a half-mile-long drive that takes you through woodland and follows the river. The Castle car park is in front of the main entrance so not too far to carry bags etc. Our room (a junior suite) was as impressive as we thought it would be, and very comfortable. The furniture is looking a little tired and worn; again, a little varnish or polish would change that. The food we had for breakfast was very nice, with a good selection to suit most tastes and appetites. The grounds are surrounded by woodland and has a river running through, this makes for an enjoyable and peaceful walk at anytime of day. Overall, it was a stay in a castle, not a budget hotel. We were celebrating (trying to celebrate) a couple of events from this year, and this place will have memories for us for many years. We have rebooked the Tattoo for the following week and booked in the castle again for just 1 night.

The car park would benefit from a couple of tons of loose gravel just to tidy it up The entrance is looking a little tired, but a little paint on the coat of arms above the door and removing some of the green moss and weeds from the stone facade and gutters is all it needs. The wardrobe was on the small side, especially if you're planning to attend a few different-styled activities and the weather is unpredictable.

The location is beautiful and the building historic. Furnishings are antique and interesting.

For the price of our stay the quality of facilities and services was not appropriate. Maybe Taylor Swift had something to do with that!

The castle was lovely and the staff were great, and they brought breakfast in bed on my partner's 70th birthday on request and sang happy birthday which was nice, the bar staff was nice and friendly and did have a lovely meal one night of our stay.

I thought even though it's August and the fridge was on, it was overpriced for what I paid.the drink was only in bottles of beer which was £5 for a half a pint. It was a shame there's not draught beer, but I do understand being a castle and to much work to put pipes in. We were 6miles away from centre which was a bit far away, but there was a bus that was only £2 a ride which was good but downside it was 45 minutes a journey but got use to it, but parking in town was £25 for a few hours, which was a joke

The whole castle environment which was comfortable and amazing. Front desk service was fantastic.

Thought it might be interesting to stay at a REAL castle on our UK/Scotland vacation. Overall Melville Castle was a nice change from your average so so hotel. Why we were not THRILLED is apparantly, this place is also used for catering. So outside in a window or two you could see unsightly chairs up against a window...and if I recall there was a tent for catering on-site too...I might have that wrong. In the castle as you are walking towards the lobby from your room again you pass some disheveled room where a lot of chairs. are,..some poking thru a curtain just messy...Also had a musty smell passing that room. If not for the catering stuff we loved the stay otherwise. We did have an issue with our toilet that was to not working ....would not flush, but staff was super great had it fixed within in minutes. Resturant was ok....not amazing but it was good. Overall a unique experince, nice room...but the darn catering mess we saw makes me detract a star or two....Breakfast was good btw.

Clean up anything realted to catering...Don't make THAT so obvious..takes away the "feeling" of staying in a real castle to a degree.

It was a castle firstly not your usual hotel premier inn travel lodge .. it was a picture too look at and be in almost like you were in history it was great. The view was stunning the staff were great nothing bad on that part overall good experience

The room we got was a little dirty and tight which i cant really complain cause its the feel of the place its an old hotel and i understand its gonna be like this.. the bed was a little uncomfortable but not too bad.. however the main con of the whole place has to just be how far it is from everything including the central.. if you have a car this wouldnt be too bad but for us we just used ubers and this was expensive getting back and fourth but again expected.

The location was absolutely beautiful and we love exploring the grounds. The castle itself had some beautifully kept and well-maintained main rooms that were fun to look at. It was like stepping back in time. 

Our room was not at all what I expected based on the picture seen online. It was very basic. The stop for the shower would not stay up. And it just seemed a little bit less cat. If I was basing our room alone on the price of our hotel I would say it was very overpriced. Room was quite warm as well

I loved this hotel so much! It was absolutely gorgeous inside and out. Our room was very large and very on theme. We were there at Xmas and the hotel was decorated beautifully. There was a lovely bar area as well as a delicious restaurant. I didn't want to leave! It was a magical stay. There is a bus stop at the end of the very long drive with very easy connections into the city. The walk to the road is quite long...especially in the dark though.

The only comment I have is that the room was very warm - a bit too warm especially in the night. I tried to turn the radiator down but it didn't make any difference. I didn't ask the staff about it but I am sure if I did they would have been able to help.
