Location was the best part of this hotel! Right in the heart of the Grass Market area. Nicely designed room was large with lots of storage space for luggage and belongings. Bed was comfy. Room was very cute. Loved the water bottle refill stations in the hallways.

We were given a wheelchair accessible room (we did not request this) and water in the shower went everywhere as there is no ledge along the ground. We requested additional towels to prevent the water flooding issue and never received them. Hotel does not have air conditioning anywhere in the building but they supply fans. Only problem was our room was located above the outdoor smoking area of the hotel. So although they recommend opening the window to cool down the room, we were unable to do so because the strong cigarette smell was entering our room.

We had a wonderful stay at the Apex Grassmarket Hotel in Edinburgh. The rooms were spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated, and the beds were exceptionally comfortable—perfect after a day of exploring. The staff were consistently friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The location couldn’t be better—right in the heart of the Old Town, just a short walk from Edinburgh Castle and surrounded by great restaurants and pubs. We especially enjoyed the hotel’s lounge and restaurant, which offered a relaxing atmosphere and lovely views. The underground parking was a convenient bonus, especially in such a busy area. Overall, the Apex Grassmarket Hotel delivered on comfort, service, and location. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

Nothing in particular

The view from our room was magnificent. We loved seeing the castle and city day and night. The balcony was a plus and everything is in walking distance. We appreciated the tub and the breakfast was well appointed. There was a concert at the castle one of the nights we were there so we got to listen while lounging in bed. We were worried about the noise (lots of restaurants and pubs down below) but closing the window/door and drapes drowned out the sound.

We happened to be there when the weather was warm and there was no air conditioning. Something to hold the balcony door open to get a breeze would have been nice.

Friendly staff. Good sized room with view. Facilities in room were very good and no shortage of shower/bath shampoo, conditioner , wash and body lotion. Bed was firm and comfortable. Lifts were quiet and worked well. Breakfast was excellent. Staff were cheerful and cooked breakfast orders were taken and served at table. Bar and food available Didn’t try swimming pool etc so can’t comment on that facility. Paid for upgrade to room with castle view which was great. Staff keen to assist if any information needed.

Three short flights of steps to reception and lifts. Partner found these difficult as he has mobility difficulties. Check-in was stressful - a coach group arrived and swamped area and I had to wait to as staff were issuing keys to group first. Foyer by lift was being utilised as entry for Fringe event ( I think) and was crowded at times. Breakfast area again, short flights of steps down into the buffet area and back up to table so partner didn’t attempt access.

Breakfast was ample and lots of choice. Room was a great size and beds were comfortable. Brilliant black out curtains and very quiet considering the main road location. Reception staff and serving staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was refreshed each day which was lovely. The Grassmarket in my opinion is the best location, safe and family friendly into the night. Lots of cafes and restaurants to chose from and literally around the corner was the ‘Vennel’ the Museum and the Royal Mile.

You need more coffee machines available. Also would massively benefit from some coat hooks in the room. We had a wardrobe but was full for four of us for four days and we had lots of outer wear options and no where to hang them.

My wife fell and fractured her leg at the airport upon arrival in Edinburgh. After an afternoon in the hospital, we arrived at the hotel arranging to fly home the next day. The staff were very helpful, completely welcoming, and did everything possible to make our short stay as comfortable as possible. Everyone did all they could to bring cheer to our obviously dismal day, and they did it out of the goodness of their hearts. We aim to be back next summer and will definitely be staying here. The hotel room was comfortable, parking was convenient, it seemed to be in a good location (never got to walk around, of course) and the staff were excellent.

Excellent location, beautiful view, friendly staff

We were in a quadruple room but only had tea coffee facilities for two people, had to request extra cups glasses and coffee sachets, also had to ask for extra towels as only 2 had been left. One day we returned to find cleaning materials left in our room. The throw pillows on our bed were very badly stained. Our room had a beautiful view, beds were comfortable but the room had a smell, think it was the drains. The smell dissipated after we ran taps and flushed toilets but when you returned to the room there was an unpleasant odour.

Normally I book a budget hotel so decided not to get breakfast included and I really regret it because this is a really nice hotel even fancier than the places my mum picks level of nice really worth the money and there's a market right outside on Saturdays it's really romantic

There are two apex hotels on grass market Street so make sure you go to the right one also the rooms with a view of the castle are facing grass market Street which has a lively nightlife might not suit everyone

The room location was at the bac of the hotel so wasn't exactly quiet as your could hear trolley being pushed around the car park and car doors banging etc and there were also children in a room close by who were very noisy but the location itself was ideally situation in the old town part of Edinburgh

The toilet seat was a right nuisance as each time you sat on it it flipped out of the brackets so was a real pain

The room that I had actually paid for (top floor, full ceiling-floor windows, facing the castle) was excellent, and the duty manager on the day of the checking-in was very conscientious in correcting the error made by the other reception staff.

I paid for an early-check-in (which I received no refund for), which the reception had no record of, and instead of refunding this amount (as I was happy to wait), they gave me an inferior room instead, and only after speaking to the duty manager, did they give me the actual room originally allocated to me. Separately, it would have been extremely helpful had the gym allowed 24 hours access, and also if the pool closed slightly later than 10pm, since most travelers would return to the hotel late anyway, and can't access these facilities.
