The location is incredible, rooms comfortable and overall extremely clean and well kept.
Breakfast was very disappointing. Everyone attending breakfast was noticeably irritated by the low standard. The staff member on Friday morning was absolutely miserable, rude and dismissive. We had paid for breakfast to be added for our stay and we didn’t avail of it after the first day because the food options were terrible. Bread, ham, cheese, jam. The fruit basket was empty, yogurts were available but the spoons were not. Tea and coffee was empty. None of with were being topped up. We left hungry.

We stayed in the 30 bunk room. So the value was amazing and the set up with lockers, shelves and small screens was really nice. There were multiple restrooms which was very helpful. Even though there was a bar, outside area and one living area, this wasn't really a hang out hostel. The location can't be beat, our room over looked the Greyfrair's kirkyard and we always make a point to go through it on our way back. Also super close to the castle and Royal Mile.
No shared kitchen, though we were told we could use the Grassmarket's kitchen, but we never made it over there.

i was located in the middle of old town, right by grassmarket and victoria street!!! great place to meet new people because the hostel always plans theme nights (pub crawls, wiskey tastings, trivia nights…) and because it’s on a street that has a lot of bars, pubs and even a few nightclubs( even so it’s pretty peaceful at night ).
Not all showers are the best (in the female bathroom are a little uncomfortable) so i recommend using the ones in the shared bathroom. Also obviously don’t get a lot of privacy in the room, but i suggest to the hostel to add curtains for example to make it a little more private.

The location is central and well connected, near to beautiful views and landmarks, also. The beds are quite comfortable and the space doesn't feel cramped, even though there are several people in the same room, mostly because the rooms are cleverly separated.
I was next to the window, which was great, but the windowsill was dusty. On my last day, I struggled to get a shower, only found two bathrooms (4 showers) for women and none of them was available. I had to wait around 45 min to use a shower.

- so central to old town - right on grassmarket/vic street - staff were so friendly - cheapest beer we could find in the area - always had something on each night for us to partake in - had good recommendations for us - rooms were spacious; our group of 5 had plenty of room
- all stairs; we were on the top floor and had to take our suitcases all the way up - were fighting for our lives in the showers; either freezing cold, or had to press a button every 5 seconds to keep the water on - toilets clogged every time we went to use them - rooms got very hot and couldn’t cool down

Location was excellent, I was able to walk everywhere and you get a stunning view of the castle as soon as you step out the door! The bar and pool table area downstairs was an excellent place to make new friends and also to dine if you don’t feel up to going out! The hostel also hosted some fun events most days of the week!
The shower lights turn off quite quickly and aren’t on a sensor so they won’t turn on again until you go to leave! We were also told there was a communal kitchen area which was actually in the sister hostel up the road.

If you're looking for a social hostel, this ticks the box. The layout and events encourages socialising which is really nice and I enjoyed my stay meeting randomers!
It's tempting to criticise the 30 bed room. Makes you wonder maybe there is a limit at hostels to how many people you should fit into a room to save money - you certainly can't guarantee a good night's sleep. It'd be better if they invested in 'capsules or pods'. At peak season (Fringe) it's stupidly expensive for what you get and difficult to justify but off peak season it's great value.

I absolutely loved having a sink available in the room for convenience, and that towels were included with the private room that I purchased. Also, the staff were lovely and incredibly helpful no matter the issue. The beds were clean and super comfy for a dorm-style bunk, and the location was perfect as we always had the hostel as a midpoint after shows to recuperate!
I did not love that the windows were incredibly difficult to move, and old enough that my friends and I didn't quite feel confident enough to move them at all. The floorboards in the room were a bit warped, and due to the window situation, the room got quite hot, but I'm sure that's more of an issue with the building itself being old than it is with the business.

The Rooms were very clean and it was close to the castle and other main attractions! Also, the breakfast was good, you pay 5.5 pounds and there are boiled eggs, fruit, juice, cheese, etc. I think it’s very worth it!
It’s a little noisy because there are some bars in front of it and also inside the hotel. It didn’t bother me because I have a good sleep but if you don’t, consider getting some ear protectors. I’d be nice to have female only rooms too.
