I liked the hotel a lot. It was a cool space that was very welcoming . The staff were exceptional nice and helpful. Our room was a suite and it was lovely. The breakfast in the morning was excellent. We ate dinner in the dining room two nights of our stay and that was lovely. The food was good and the staff excellent. They were very busy one night and our order took a little longer and they complimented us a discount. That was very nice . Not necessary ,for it was only a little longer, but very nice.

There was nothing I did not like

I liked the size of the hotel. Our room was on the top floor so lots of sloping ceilings and the windows weren’t able to be opened. Breakfast staff were lovely and the breakfast was good. However I felt that they were always one member of staff short, be it at breakfast or the outside bar and eating area.

Odd question when we checked in about whether we wanted housekeeping every day! never had that before in this quality of hotel. A packet of crisps in the complimentary basket was five months out of date! As mentioned above I think the hotel was slightly understaffed which put the working staff under noticeable strain, though they were always very polite and welcoming.

The hotel has a lovely ambiance & all the staff were so welcoming. The rooms were exceptionally clean & we had a lovely view over the internal courtyard. Breakfasts were delightful & the dining area, a relaxed place to start your day. We booked a table for an evening meal on the day of our arrival. Both the food & service were excellent. The hotel was in a fabulous location to be able to walk to most of the local attractions, restaurants & bars. Would definitely stay again & recommend to others.

We would struggle to find fault with either the property or the service we received. We travelled by car & there was no designated parking outside the hotel. We did pull up at the entrance & offloaded our luggage before parking the car on the nearby Q Park.

The only aspect that fell short during our stay was the restaurant. While the space itself is beautiful and cozy, it lacks consistent service and clear direction. It seems to be missing someone truly in charge — a guiding presence to ensure that the experience is as polished and attentive as the rest of the hotel. At times, service felt disorganized or inattentive, which detracts from what could easily be a standout dining experience. That said, everything else about the hotel was simply wonderful. The rooms were charming and comfortable, the atmosphere throughout the property was warm and inviting, and the staff in all other areas were exceptional. With just a bit more attention to the restaurant side, this boutique gem could be perfect.

Loved the location and it was a beautiful hotel. Maze style layout of rooms given odd names and no numbers. Made for some entertaining walks to find our room. Our room had a slanted ceiling that even was low for a short person like me. The window faced the street and it got hot at night, but people yelling below made it difficult to sleep with the windows open. The bartender handled all of the restaurant drink orders and the bar by himself! Not good when you are waiting for drinks. Felt sorry for him. The location was phenomenal and the outdoor seating was very pleasant. Definitely worth coming back, I think!

Location, hotel style/architecture, and breakfast (though a bit expensive)

Although we informed recepton and restaurant staff on checking in day that we need a take away breakfast on third day for a day trip, they did not prepare it due to internal miscommunication. However, they apologized for this incidence and refunded us breakfast price for that day. Room cleaning service needs improvement, also they did not refill our shower gel when it was finished. We tried dinner in the Bistro one night, food was average, however ambiance and service were good

Excellent bicycle storage in a small garage; we had a junior suite on the top floor so tub was great (although hot water ran out if we didn’t watch it), very good breakfast and the bistro dinner we had was very good. Good service all round. Really like the location across from the Univ. of Edinburgh which was a bit out of the fray of touristy Edinburgh.

Our suite was at the top of the building and the lift only goes part way- when we arrived the manager took our gear up (very nice) but we had to lug it down on checking out.

The location was lovely old town vibe combined with a tastefully decorated rustic style. Staff were attentive and helpful without being intrusive . My mum had booked this as an engagement gift. the hotel went out of their way to make sure we felt our celebration was special. On arrival we were welcomed with a lovely selection of delicious cakes and a congratulatory message along with them. We were given complimentary drinks vouchers, dressing gowns and slippers, just added to our lovely stay. The rooms were spacious and immaculate . The stay was comfortable and relaxing. We would come back in a second and definitely recommend to anyone.

Friendly Reception staff, especially 'Abs' and the Brazilian lady who were always cheerful and helpful. Excellent bed and bed linen. Well cooked and presented breakfasts and dinner. Good bedside lights and phone charging sockets. It was easy to turn the heating off, open the window and work the TV. Plenty of comfy leather sofas and places to sit and relax with a whisky from the bar upstairs.

Tiny cartons of UHT milk on the tea/coffee bag tray. I should have asked for a jug of real milk. It could be difficult for less agile people getting into the bath or shower area in the bath because of the glass shower screen and the very hot towel rail. So wrap a towel around the heated towel rail to avoid hurting your hand. Good hot water and pressure. Slightly fusty smell in my room 'Chateau de Rolleriae', maybe from the carpet.

Late arrival due to delayed flight, arrived at 1.30am the night porter welcomed us in and with out any fuss showed us to our super room (suite ) Restaurant… excellent food & service accompanied by fantastic staff, nothing was a problem, all served with a big smile. (Sam & Helen) Lounge and bar area’s very comfortable, soft lighting with excellent period sofa’s and arm chairs . Location is also perfect. Overall we had a fabulous three night stay, if we go back to Edinburgh again, we will most definitely stay at the Hotel du vin.
