Check-in was easy with instructions on room location, breakfast, and we were offered a complimentary welcome drink. After heading to our room on the second floor, via elevator, we then broke out into the city for some touring. The Grassmarket Hotel is centrally located, within walking distance of many restaurants, shops, walking tours, and historical sites. Upon checkout, it was easy to book a cab to the airport, and there was nothing left to do but hand over the room key—a special shout out to Amy at reception.

I realize it's an older hotel, but being a tad on the older side, the route to our room, 215, had us taking the elevator, then walking down a hall, and finally climbing several stairs to reach the room door.

The room was spacious, and the bed was comfortable and a mini fridge in the room. Has tea and coffee facilities and a variety of teas (Tetley, peppermint, camomile, and Earl grey) along with 2 sachets of good quality coffee and some UHT milk and also sugar. Also, 2 caramel wafers and a little candy cane on the pillow. We had room 316 next to the lift, which we didn't hear at all. The ensuite was very spacious and would recommend Staff were mainly helpful , and they refreshed your room daily. We didn't hear the pub next door either. They had secondary glazing, this worked perfectly Location was brilliant. A bit of a walk from the train station but easily done.

Had to chase for a room refresh on Thursday and the receptionist was a bit offish bordering on rude. But the other staff very nice and helpful. Never the same receptionist as changed daily. Unable to control the thermostat very hot at night and secondary glazing not easy to.open

All of the staff were helpful and friendly. We had a very hospitable welcome. I felt safe and comfortable. The location is perfect! I could come and go all day in between museum visits and exploring the city. We chose the optional breakfast with Biddy Mulligan’s and it was excellent!

The room got warm- it is summer after all. And only one window opened a few inches. We requested a fan- and they provided! I suggest requesting a second fan if staying in the larger, four-person room.The buzz of 2 low-noise fans would also help create enough background noise for sleeping- as the street sounds do carry up to the rooms on the street side. We are all light sleepers- but we were able to get quality sleep by planning ahead. The hotel was a good value for us- glad we stayed!!

(1) Design: original exterior with modern & functional interior, Reception area with big tables & seating & available water, distinctive graphic design on walls & signage all around; (2) Excellent breakfast menu & food quality, combining traditional with trendy; (3) Original sash windows that could be partly opened; (4) Powerful mini-fridge & drink-making facilities in bedroom; (5) Good quality towels & room clean option.

(1) Cost higher than usual budget but accepted for peak season - value still OK; (2) Later breakfast start vs standard caused some immediate & noticeable work overload for staff & some service & menu items were sometimes replenished only slowly or upon request.

Great location on the attractive Grassmarket, really convenient. We had a quiet room at the back of the building. Comfy bed.

To be fair it was advertised as a “small double room” - and it was tight! The bed had to be against a wall. Manageable if you’re only staying a night or two.

I liked how central it was, and the comfort of the rooms. The staff were great, very helpful with either small questions about where to find something or big problems. My safe broke with my passport inside the night before I was due to leave and the receptionist tried her best to help and then the maintenance guy came in ASAP after hours so that I'd have my passport before my early departure. Other staff were extremely helpful as well, and they're a big part of why I'm giving this place a 10/10!! Thank you to everyone I interacted with!!

This has nothing to do with the hotel itself, it's something outside of their control. The bar next door can get very loud. I was luckily far enough away in my room not to hear it, but I don't know if a closer room would? There was a note in the room that the hotel understood how difficult it could be to be next to the bar and that they had ear plugs on hand should anyone need them.

The hotel is situated in the busy area of the Grassmarket. From our fantastic location, we were able to explore all of the many lovely shops, pubs and eating areas that the Old Town has to offer.

As we travelled during the time of the Edinburgh Festival, we expected it to be noisy. We were quite surprised by the low levels of noise we heard throughout the night and were only awakened early due to the kegs being replaced for the bars within the area. As it was festival time, we understood and it didn't deter us from our enjoyment of the stay.

The location is the best tourist spot in Edinburgh. I love the old town vibes very lively place, restaurants, coffee shops and market during Saturday and close to Edinburgh Castle and to others tourist places. The room has tv, so clean, spacious and with complimentary coffee tea and water.. All staff is amazing! especially on the day of our checked in the beautiful receptionist was very helpful, I forgot her name..

The only thing was our room is in 5th floor and the lift is till 4th floor only so we need to take stairs from 4th to 5th floor. Quiet hassle because we have 2 big luggages.. but the staff is wiling to help so still fine..

No false advertising. The room was as it said. Bed was comfy, ensuite was a good size, TV was huge!

The air-conditioning did not allow for heat (only blew out cold air) despite there being no radiator, except in the bathroom. The style of sink didn't allow for a wash. The noise of air-conditioning unit outside window not warned about
