Keeping the exceptional low price in mind, this hostel is absolutely great and I can absolutely recommend it! The bedding was clean, mattress felt nice and all facilities were in good condition (since they are shared, I am saying this with hostel standards in mind). The staff was kind and helpful! I loved that there was free shampoo/body wash in the showers, that was a small but greatly appreciated extra. I liked the lights in the room: little bedlights for each bed, a nightlight that wasn't bright enough to wake others up and then the brighter daylight - very nicely thought out. The location is incredible for this price point. When I stayed there (on a sunday), it wasn't loud or too busy.
Some power outlets in our room didn't work, so I was not able to charge all of my electronics, but the staff was very helpful! Another thing I'd like to say is that the name Kick Ass is maybe a poor choice for a hostel. When I talked to my roommates, we all agreed that we were originally apprehensive about booking a bed in a hostel that sounded like a teenage party venue. Of course that's not the case, but I'd like to mention that as it almost deterred me from booking initially ;)

Rooms and bathrooms very clean and comfortable. There was always someone who answered any questions. Breakfast was ok even so there a plenty of places to eat in the area. I was very lucky with my roommate’s… all of them had been very nice and everyone has shown consideration for the others in the room. I would definitely stay here again!
There could be more hairdryers in the bathrooms.

The location was great, the pods were extremely roomie - as a larger person I was worried about this but I added photos to show this. I'm 5"10 and could sit up nicely, and I could put my legs out sideways with a slight bend in the knee. I asked for a bottom bunk and they were able to provide me with one which was great as I'm not sure I could have climbed into the top one - well I might have got up, but I don't know about down haha. About a foot at the side of a generous mattress also allowed it to not feel so claustrophobic. Private individual toilets and showers which was nice and a good amount of them. Friendly staff and served alcohol, pool table downstairs - however there were no tips on the pool cues.
So many stairs! I'm used to a bungalow haha and I was on the third floor with 6 flights - not great if you're not the fittest of people! There was a couple of small hairs on my bed but I understand these things can happen and the pods probably aren't the easiest to clean - felt very clean apart from this. It did get a little warm but it was dark enough that during the night I just opened my shutter slightly and got sufficient air coming in - I saw there were fans in the pod wall but I didn't want to attempt to use them as they looked a little dusty.

Great and epic location, in a Old Town street in Edimburg, close to Casttle, 15 minutes walk from the Tram that arrives from the Airport. Also, 20 minutes from the Bus Station. Has a Pub Crawl activity to meet people. I thinked that the hostel its really social, but only has Pub Crawl joining the two hostels, and not have activities like other hostels that maybe joins people. Still, I liked the experience. Has a Lobby with board games, and a pool table. The facilities are great. Full equiped kitchen (for preparing Chicken with Brocolli), clean, and a lot of Bathrooms all over the place. Also supermarket near the hostel, like 8 minutes walking.
The hostel maybe can have more social activities. And the room was warm when I visitied. Maybe more air in the rooms.

I had a great experience staying at this hostel! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming — perfect for solo travelers or anyone looking to meet people. The common areas were cozy and well-maintained, with plenty of space to relax, work, or socialize. The dorms were clean, the beds had privacy curtains and individual sockets, and the lockers were secure and spacious enough for a large backpack. The bathrooms were surprisingly clean for a shared setup and were cleaned regularly. The staff were super friendly and helpful, always available with recommendations or just for a chat. The location was also ideal — close to major attractions, restaurants, and public transport. Only downside: it could get a little noisy at night depending on your room’s location, but earplugs helped. Overall, highly recommend it for anyone looking for a budget-friendly, social, and clean place to stay!

Staff is 10/10 extremely friendly and helpful, everyone there deserveses a raise. Granted, Edinburgh is quite small but the location is superb. The small kitchen is great for cooking and I liked it as a solo traveller because the shared spaces made it easy to meet new people. There are tons of great Pubs and Restaurants nearby and although I didn't went I heard the pub crawl was very cool. Bonus tip: you can get free coffee and water at the bar and 10% off in the other Kick Ass Hostel just 3 mins from there, which is also a cool place to hang out at.
To properly cook you should bring your own cooking oil, would be cool if they had some shared stuff on the spot or some small oil packages to buy

1.The location is close to everything, Edinburgh Castle, Victoria Street, Royal Mile, Greyfriars Kirkyard, Museum, Princes Street.. etc 2. The breakfast is great and cheaper than eating out at restaurants around the area. I usually eat heavy breakfast then i'm still full for lunch 3. Clean washrooms 4. 10% discount at kickassbar 5. Big rooms and the pods have sliding doors so people still have privacy in their space
1.The showers can get a little too hot or cold sometimes (I only use the showers on the 3rd floor , I cannot comment about the showers on the other floors)

First time in a hostel, great location, value for money lovely staff and very clean facilities, my hotel in london had worse bathroom. Have big lockers near entrence that you can keep stuff in. People who stayed there were quiet and kept to themselves. Have bunch of toilet and showers. I left the room very early and come back very late so for a place to sleep it was good and very good price.
Bunk beds are wobbly and very squeaky, if you roll around or make any movements whole bunk wobbles and makes noise, which may distrupt the other person sleeping. Also you could enter inside the building(not the rooms) and locker room without using your keycard, recommend staff to activate it.

+ I requested a bottom bed and my request was easily met + The location is perfect, in the heart of Grassmarket, next to the pubs and cafes. Be warned - if you want to go to the old town it's most definitely a climb up! It's the essence of Edinburgh hehe + Pods exceeded my expectations - very roomy, super comfy mattress, private + Mixed-gender showers are essentially separate rooms with a shower and a toilet, which is pretty handy + There are plenty of showers and toilets around the hostel, including signs to the nearest ones, in case those near your room were occupied + The hostel is very clean, every time I passed during the day and in the evening I saw staff checking on the cleanliness of the showers and toilets + The hostel was quiet, even during the weekends. The majority of people in the pod room were getting to bed at around 9 pm and most of them were a bit older (if you're worrying about the age like I did) + There was confusion with beds, but the staff swiftly solved this problem + Decently big clean professional kitchen that has everything you need + Even though the pod room has a lot of beds, the room is sectioned, and once you're in the pod, it feels like you're in a separate room + Smart system on the locker pads that is secure and easy to use
- The constant confusion with the pod beds, people taking somebody else beds and staff confirmed that is the common occurrence. Some clear indications may be useful for some - The hot boiling water in the shower was like torture and there didn't seem to be any regulator or adjuster - The air in the pods can be quite drying, but it's a pretty common issue - It would be great to have more sockets around the corridors or separate space for hairdryers because I couldn't make myself dry hair in the room at 5 am before I had to leave (thinking about the others) - Because of the amount people in the pod room, the chances somebody would snore are high, and if you don't bring your own ear plugs and have a light sleep - you're doomed

Central location, right next to the castle and 10 minute walk to the city center. Clean rooms with nice thick bedding and a plug socket next to every bunk bed. Big lockers for each bed, bring your own padlock. Breakfast was basic, with toast, cereal, boiled eggs, fruit, juice, coffee and tea but was happy with the convenience of it, you can pay for it on the day for £5.50. Also really liked the massive mirrors with lights in the bathrooms which is important for the girlies who need to do their makeup :)
Showers were a bit cold but at least they were exceptionally clean! Hairdryer on the top floor bathroom was overheating/ cutting out so I used one in a different bathroom.
