The hotel was lovely, very modern and clean. Great location in the heart of the grass market.

As wonderful as everything was, the price was eye watering. We came up for the Oasis concert, and even though we booked almost a year in advance, there wasn't a great deal of choice. Add to that it's Fringe Festval and The Tattoo, rooms are scarce. However, we have a twin booked in New York in November for 6 nights, and it's only £200 more than the 2 nights in a twin we paid to be here.

The hotel is lovely, the location is perfect. We had a view of Edinburgh Castle from our room and as the hotel is located in the Grassmarket, we had access to an array of bars and restaurants. The bonus was a market on the Saturday which had lots of stalls with hand made items and food. The hotel is modern and clean, the rooms are a good size and they provide robes and slippers as well as a little rubber duck, which I will add to my collection :) The bed was very comfortable, there was a safe, a fridge, ironing board and iron, tea and coffee making facilities. The hand/body wash and hand cream were of a lovely quality and smelled great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We asked for extra pillows and they magically appeared in our room. We only stayed one night, but would definitely go back again. The only little blip was at breakfast the following morning. We ordered a full Scottish Breakfast which took about 40 mins to arrive and the coffee machine decided not to work so we were delayed and missed the check out time. The staff were very apologetic and made sure we could get back into our room in order to check out. This is why I didn't rate this hotel as 'Excellent' but 'Good', but I'm sure this was a one-off and would not put us off staying here again. Overall, very impressed with this hotel

Location was ideal. Staff were nice and extremely responsive. Room was very comfortable and well-maintained. Bathroom was VERY nice. Loved having the bath and shower. We were able to get into our rooms before the official check-in time.

I booked a room with castle view and it was a stretch to say the room had a view. We were on the first floor, so I had to stand at the window and look up and over to see it in the distance. If I was not standing to the side of the window and looking for it, there was no view of the castle. Maybe the view is better if your room is on a higher floor, but I was disappointed to pay extra for what we got. I had counted on using the exercise room, but I found out it was in the neighboring hotel, and when I got to the neighboring hotel, the electrical outlets in the room were not functional so the treadmill didn't work.

Well thought out lay out of room and bathroom. Both breakfast and the restaurant staff really pleasant. Reception staff really helpful, particularly Nathalia who went above and beyond to help when Storm Floris resulted in our return train being cancelled

Luke warm water for the bath yet plenty of hot for the shower. Didn't like the layout of the breakfast area. Felt a bit cramped, and therefore intrusive to other guests, when going for drinks, cereal and toast

The location of this hotel is absolutely fantastic. I made a mistake in my booking, reserved one night more than I wanted. Initially, the hotel response was very cold and cruel and left me very disappointed. However, the front-office manager, Tania, called me today (one week after I checked out) and she apologised that no other option was offered to me and explained that she was not there at the time to handle this and she actually corrected the booking for me. I appreciate this very much and am now able to confidently state that this hotel's customer service policy at least is very fair and understanding. Perhaps their staff should be more well-trained to avoid the kind of interaction I had, but this is not something I would say is a huge negative aspect. The front-office manager really turned the whole situation around and made me feel valued as a guest. I would gladly visit the hotel again, and recommend it to my colleagues and friends.

The front-desk staff would benefit from more training and preparation to uphold the hotel's wonderful customer service policy.

The location is very centrally located. I was concerned with noise due to the proximity, but it was not an issue. The staff were kind and the rooms were bigger than expected. Overall, the experience was good.

The value for the stay is mixed. We paid a premium due to the timing as Oasis and the Fringe festival were in town. This was booked 6-8 months in advance. The hotel was nice, but I would not consider the value of the hotel was appropriate during normal times.

The room was comfortable, quiet and well-appointed. The location was excellent, right in the heart of all one would want to see in Old Town. Eating (a very good) breakfast in front of a 10' window that looked up directly to Edinburgh Castle was a thrill.

Pretty pricey, which was more or less baked in to the location and day of the week. One incident, which was probably a one-off, was a carload of yobs who threw batteries from a moving car at the entrance when we coming in, was a little off-putting. However, security was on it and it didn't reflect on our impression of the safety of the location.

The location was superb - close to the Royal Mile, the staff was very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was also great, the hotel gives an opportunity to select one special hot meal in addition to "normal" breakfast choices.

The room had no air conditioning, we didn't pay attention to it while booking the room. Although during our stay it was not very hot in Edinburgh, 21..22 degrees only, the room got too hot overnight.

We stayed for two nights and initially booked breakfast for one morning. However, the discount for pre-ordering and the excellent quality of the first breakfast convinced us to return the next day. Between us, we enjoyed the Full Scottish Breakfast, porridge, the kipper meal, and smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. Everything was delicious, and we greatly appreciated the prompt service. We were celebrating my partner’s birthday, and both the desk staff and even the cleaning staff left a thoughtful note to wish her well.

Although a minor detail, the toilet roll was positioned behind the toilet, making it slightly awkward to reach.

Breakfast was delicious. We both had a cooked breakfast. I asked if I could have my Eggs Benedict on sourdough rather than muffins which was no problem at all. There were plenty fluffy white towels, ironing board & iron. The bed was very comfortable & cosy.

There was nothing that we didn’t like. We weren’t in the room for a long period, as we came down for the tattoo, so late to bed & early start to head home in the morning. But we have booked our Tattoo tickets for 2026 & a room at The Apex again
