Amazing style and "atmosphere" at this hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful, genuinely seemed like they wanted to help. Room was beautiful, well laid out, good mini bar, comfortable bed and amazing view (castle view room). Location is even better than the hotel itself. Walk out the door and right to the main old town area attractions. One thing to note, TAKE A TAXI if arriving from the train station. We say it was a short distance and decided to walk it with our suitcases, which lead to us lugging out bags up countless staircases. Taxi back to the station at the end of the trip was only $5.....So just take the taxi haha.

Most staff were exceptional however, our check in experience was by far under par! The receptionist simply didn’t seem to have a clue and gave us no information regarding the hotel or the facilities. We saw other people being checked in given a five star service unfortunately ours was a 2 star!

The location of the hotel and the helpfulness of the staff were great! The concierge was always there to guide us through Edinburgh which helped us quite a lot! The bar area and the general atmosphere of the hotel was really cool. And the terrace was amazing, you get the view everyone wants to have in Edinburgh, the castle. We tried the breakfast one day and that was enough to be honest, the food was not great and unfortunately neither was the service (I think they were a bit understaffed)... So I would suggest not booking breakfast included if it is available. In general, the people were super helpful and kind which made the experience even better. The rooms were also nice, modern and clean.

Stayed with my mum and two Shibas—felt welcome from the moment we arrived. Exceptionally friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable, spotless room with everything we needed. Great on-site bars and restaurant—perfect for relaxing after sightseeing. Beautiful terrace with stunning city views. Dogs were treated wonderfully and felt right at home. We’ll definitely be back!

Would love a few more hangers/hooks near the shower area Water pressure was a bit low—tricky for washing long hair Shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner were great, but dispensers were hard to use (tops kept sticking) Everything else was absolutely lovely—really enjoyed the stay!

Beautifully presented, great location, friendly staff and stunning design. Welcome drinks and Scottish treats in room were a lovely touch.

We stayed in a room which was a long walk from the reception, and there was no alternate entrance on that side of the hotel. The hotel is actually formed of several buildings and subsequently we had to take the lift, followed by walking long corridors and several flights of stairs each time we wanted to get to/from our room. Not ideal for people with mobility issues or injuries, especially combined with all the walking that a trip to Edinburgh involves. No other complaints, would absolutely stay again but would want a different room location.

Our stay at Virgin Hotel Edinburgh was absolutely exceptional! The hotel is perfectly located in the very heart of the city – just a short walk from the Castle and the Royal Mile, making it an ideal base for exploring Edinburgh. The interiors are stylish and welcoming, with impeccable cleanliness and service of the highest standard. A special mention must go to the Concierge – Mr. Marcin, a fellow Pole, who took care of us with incredible warmth and professionalism. From the very beginning, he was eager to help, offering valuable tips on what to see in and around Edinburgh. He passionately spoke about the hotel’s many advantages and encouraged us to join the Virgin Hotels loyalty club. Thanks to that, we were able to enjoy complimentary drinks at the bar every day between 5 and 6 p.m. – a lovely touch! Mr. Marcin is a truly wonderful person – dedicated, kind, and deeply committed to making guests feel welcome and well looked after. Breakfasts at the hotel were delicious, and the entire experience left us with unforgettable memories. We wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for top-quality accommodation and a warm, friendly atmosphere. We will definitely return!

Great location, very comfortable stay

We really enjoyed our stay at Virgin Hotel Edinburgh. The standout feature was definitely the bed—extremely comfortable and made for a great night’s sleep. The service throughout the hotel was warm and attentive, with staff always happy to assist and welcoming in their approach. The location is also a major plus—right in the heart of Edinburgh, which made it easy to explore the city’s attractions, shops, and restaurants on foot. The hotel itself has a stylish and modern vibe, and the facilities were well maintained.

While our experience was largely positive, there were a couple of letdowns that stopped it from being a 10/10. We travelled with another couple who received champagne on arrival, along with macarons, strawberries, and blackberries in their room—none of which were offered to us. This inconsistency in guest treatment felt a bit disappointing and took away from the special feel of the stay. Breakfast was another area that didn’t quite meet expectations. While there was a decent range of options, both the buffet and the à la carte menu were average in quality—nothing bad, but also nothing particularly memorable or impressive.

I loved how cozy the room was. We had a balcony overlooking Greyfriars and I loved having coffee/wine on the patio each day. The rooms were modern and comfortable, if a little small. We loved the social hour and had great interactions with the bartenders and other patrons (this was a great perk for Virgin and we loved it!). The onsite restaurant was quite good and the room service was also delicious. The location on Victoria Street is perfect for accessing most of the tourist attractions in Edinburgh. The staff were very friendly throughout.

The location is great, however, if you are arriving by train, be warned that it is a short, but exhausting 15 minute walk up a very steep hill with lots of cobblestones. Consider taking a taxi. Other than that, there really wasn't anything bad to say about this place. It was great!
