Our room (room 17) had magnificent views with floor to ceiling windows, one overlooking the harbour with all its comings and goings, and one overlooking st.michaels mount with all the moods of the sea and sky. The decor in the room was also very refreshing, and the cleanliness of the room was very good. Generally very peaceful. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. The heated pool was properly heated, had long opening hours, and just about big enough to swim. The breakfast was fantastic.
The sound of a piece of machinery (pool pump and heater?) directly outside a window meant it was a judgement call whether to keep open. Pool had seen better days and sprung a leak. Some communal areas (e.g. the staircase) seemed neglected and had funny smell. It seems churlish to mention location on a hill (as this is what gives it the views and the peacefulness), but it is a very steep climb/descent.

Cleanliness Evening meal was superb but just add a few more biscuits and maybe a celery stick to the cheese board
Breakfast seemed unorganised, cooking fresh bacon, sausage, eggs is a nice idea but not practical when 20+ people arrive at 730-45

The staff, location and facilities were good.
Litter in the grounds and a general lack of exterior maintenance spoiled the general atmosphere as did the very low level of sound proofing between second floor rooms

The room was very good, as was the location (not far from the railway station). The staff were very pleasant, helpful and friendly. The restaurant is very spacious, with plenty of natural lighting.
It was a surprise that the restaurant closed so early - 8:30 p.m., so we couldn't have dinner at the hotel. We should really have checked the opening hours, though, before going out to meet friends earlier in the evening. Perhaps it was because we were staying on Easter Saturday and the restaurant hours were not the same as during the week; I don't know. Also, there didn't seem to be an a la carte menu; just fixed price two- or three-course options.

Light and airy. Cleanliness. Excellent food. Well organised dining room - food was exceptional. The staff were consistently welcoming, smart, smiley, professional with excellent team work. Rooms - clean, allowed fresh air into the rooms - facilities in rooms well organised dining room- bathroom and towels good quality - everything worked.
Room booked wasn’t available - compensated appropriately and appreciated. Allocated room, worked very well - was smaller than would choose, and consequentially lack of wardrobe/ drawer space and floor space .

From the outset we had a warm welcome and the staff were very friendly, the room had a nice view, was a decent size and a big tv at the end of the bed which had just about any channel you could wish for. We were also told there was complementary things we could help ourselves to which were packets of crisps, etc and some real good hot chocolate and which were just right along with all the coffee and tea we also had. The meal in the evening in the restaurant was lovely and they even did chocolate bombs for dessert, awesome - though it was'nt cheap. We had a good night's sleep and then a right good full cooked breakfast with views across Penzance harbour. Also on the way to Penzance we stopped at the Geevor Tin Mine at Pendeen - very interesting and informative and the restaurant they have serves real good tasty food with real good portion sizes!
They did seem rather keen for some reason to know when we were going to arrive and they said they'd reserve a parking space for us and they did and we were told we'd have to pay for it. However, when asking about it, it just got waved to one side and we were told not to worry about it - still not too sure if we paid for it.

The Hotel Penzance has a lovely vibe, with pretty rooms, courteous and helpful staff, and outstanding food. I would go back again and again. This was off season so I got a fabulous rate. I've been wanting to visit Cornwall for a long time and I'm so pleased that my first introduction to Cornwall was via the Hotel Penzance. The location is lovely, and the sea air fresh and bracing. The hotel is a wonderful combo of a historic building with all modern conveniences. A true bijou of a property, that is tastefully furnished and very well managed.
Honestly, I can't think of a single thing not to like. It was all fab!

- very good location just at the entrance of Penzance, convenient for driving and walking into town - the hotel is on the slopes of a hill overlooking the port and St Michael’s Mount. The common areas and rooms have excellent views - breakfast was excellent with the chef cooking eggs on the spot as per your preference - the staff was very good.
- the parking is limited and costs extra - which we knew - but it’s also on a slope and rather narrow. People driving SUVs, vans etc might consider parking elsewhere - our room had erratic hot water but the staff did sort it out, so it was ok in the end.

I liked the quaintness of the building. The grounds were nice and the views from dining room, lounge and patio were fantastic. Room was clean and comfortable and serviced each day. Coffee, tea and snacks were provided which was a nice extra touch. Even though I had a more economical room, the view from windows was of a bamboo forest and flowers - very pleasant.
The only reason I didn't give an "excellent" rating was that the walk up to the hotel was a steep hill which is a little difficult with a suitcase. Could be challenging for an elderly person or someone with mobility issues. However, I suspect this could be the case for most hotels in Penzance as it is a very hilly area.
