The Swordfish Inn is an inn with a unique atmosphere, guests could get a taste of a traditional Cornish culture and history. It is located near the port, within a walking distance to the city centre of Penzance. It was possible to take cruises to the Land’s End and other notable landmarks from there. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was really rich and delicious! The staff was friendly and helpful.
The only thing worthy of pointing out (not a critique) is a socket. While in other hotels there was usually a possibility to charge your phone through a cable, here it is necessary to bring an adapter plug (not a big issue, these can be bought in convenience stores in the city).

Staff are friendly .Room was spacious, clean with good facilities and lovely view of water. Pub has lively atmosphere and good location. Thanks for being dog friendly.Breakfast was good.
Light from pub sign shone into bedroom at night. Thicker/ blackout curtains or a shield on the light would block this out. We hung the throw over the curtain rail which worked. The bedroom was above pub entrance so there was noise and activity but had ear plugs so not a problem but might bother some people ! Hope that wouldnt put people off. We had a lovely stay

The pub was busy and vibrant and was in an excellent location for us to explore the area and go to two excellent restaurants nearby. The breakfast at the Swordfish was also very good indeed. The room was clean and of a decent size. For what we paid it was excellent value for money.
Not so much I didn't like it, because you are warned but just to emphasize, this is a very busy pub with live music. On the Friday night it was very noisy until about 12.30. The band stopped earlier but the jukebox or music was almost as loud. It didn't worry me as firstly the band was good and secondly I can sleep through almost anything. If you do want an earlier night maybe mid week might be better. The only other thing I would comment on is that I live in Cornwall and am used to some of the pub prices. I found the drinks we had quite pricey. Not too bad if you're on a little holiday but I do hope they have a loyalty/ discount for locals. Despite these comments I would happily stay here again. Loved Newlyn.

This was an excellent location for our needs for three nights. It was in easy reach of Penzance where I needed to visit family. The breakfast is delicious & set us up for the day ahead. Plenty of coffee, teabags, sugar & milk supplied in room. The bed was big & comfortable. The room was large & adequate for our needs. A wardrobe, A dresser, a chest of drawers. Corner chair ,an electric radiator & tv. The mira shower was nice with a warm towel radiator. Lovely fresh towels & shower toiletries provided. Hairdryer supplied too. Bought Chinese from take away located next door. Able to eat in the pub with a drink or take up to room. Staff were very accommodating. Local people in & out with some lovely dogs. Very happy with this accommodation. Will definitely recommend & happily book again. Thank you. Managed to go to Marizion, walk the course way to St Michael’s Mount in photo’s, had a cream tea in The Godolphin over looking St Michael's Mount.
Free parking is hard to locate. However, there is a carpark in easy reach with free parking from 4pm-9am. You may be lucky & get space outside the pub. Space for three cars. Bathroom needs some updating but certainly adequate & clean for our needs.

I enjoyed my stay at The Swordfish Inn. I will stay again. It was easy to find opposite the bus stop for the little Moushole bus which drops off at Newlyn (ring the bell). Sometimes I walked to the Penzance Bus/Train Station in about half an hour. I had a large comfortable room with a large comfortable bed. Good shower with decent pressure and easy temperature control. Nice big white towels supplied, along with shower gels. Plenty of cupboard/drawer storage. I liked the characterful property and the staff very much. The TV was tiny but I don't care for television much. I'm not sure what happens when it's very cold. Maybe another portable radiator is brought in. There was one which worked fine for my reasonably warm November stay. 'Lark' types might find staying above a loud bar with live band and busy garden on a Friday night a bit trying but I'm an 'Owl' and I enjoyed it. Thursday was quiet.

I find Newlyn a very convenient place to stay when visiting Penzance. It is not too far, and has inexpensive parking. There are a surprising number of really good restaurants including two IIRC with Michelin stars! The inn provides all one needs for a cosy night (as long as one doesn't want to sleep really early (due to the pub garden being adjacent). Breakfast is exceptionally good. The showers are extremely powerful!
Difficult to get an Uber/Taxi from here; we had to make alternative arrangements. The Mousehole bus runs relatively frequently if you don't mind that.

Very friendly staff throughout our stay - really helpful Rooms very big and beds super comfortable. Everything was spotless. Really great breakfast in the morning. Really enjoyed our stay. Located 20 min walk away from main part of town, but nice to walk along the front. Parked right outside (free)
Room at back a bit noisy for me (I am a light sleeper tho) with people drinking from pub (to be expected really I guess!!) and seagulls from 4am 🙈. None of these things could be helped or changed, but they are something to be considered by potential guests I think (being very honest) Aside from that, a very nice place - the room at the front with ‘harbour view’ was much quieter and didn’t cause any issues whatsoever (I’m just a light sleeper and should have gone in other room!!)

Friendly welcoming staff. Handy for the Scillionian III boat to the Scilly Isles. Breakfast was good. Room had all the essentials. The Swordfish doesn't do evening meals but there are options within walking distance both ways.
A bit noisy from the outside tables of drinkers below but it stopped about 11 ish both nights we stayed there so that's fine. It's a pub, you expect that! Parking is limited nearby, great if you can get a place in Duke St Car Park just round the back and currently free after 4pm & you can pre pay for the morning so you don't have to rush out of breakfast..

We only stayed one night as part of our coastal path walk and had a very entertaining Saturday evening in this very lively pub. We were allowed to bring dinner in from the Chinese takeaway next door which was excellent since we were too late for all the restaurants nearby. Don't come here expecting a peaceful stay. It is loud and a lot of fun. Breakfast was good and the staff were all very friendly.
The window in our bathroom was sealed shut which meant there was no air. Therefore didn't smell good and was difficult for anything to dry out.

The location, the staff and the breakfast. Be aware that this is a real pub frequented by real people who make little amends for snooty tourists. It is also a bar with accommodation and not accommodation with a bar. The location offers an authentic stay and is walking distance to Penzance, Mousehole and beyond. The breakfast is served with a smile and included treats for our dog. Great ingredients make for a memorable breakfast.
Not much. The carpets seemed new, bed linen was good quality but the bathroom would benefit from an overhaul. Our room was over the front door of the bar and so we could hear the conversation and laughter of the smokers, no problem for us but some may find the language a bit colourful. The shower cubicle might be difficult for larger guests. If I were to offer any feedback to owners it would be - replace two chairs in the bay for a window seat. - change the shower cubicle for a walk in .
