This is definitely the place to stay if you're very easy-going and appreciate that the hotel is under refurbishment! It's full of character, our room was huge with a large bathroom and a comfortable bed. We liked opening the large sash window to hear the birds. The young lady on reception was super helpful. There's a garden for a wander or sitting in the sunshine. Safe off-road parking.

There was no food or refreshments available but we knew this so had taken a cool bag with milk, cereals and enough food for a picnic so it didn't bother us. A pub five minutes walk away serves breakfasts and full meals, with a lovely beer garden! Obviously the hotel is a work in progress but we are quite laid-back and appreciated the low cost of accommodation.

Owner took my case & showed me my room, even on my aariving back at 10pm the first night! No breakfast; due to renovations kitchen was closed. Owner offered to cook anything I wanted, I am happy with that offer being made, but only needed a couple of Danish pastries which I bought for myself & had a 'lie in' breakfast. The room was fantastic, huge, comfortable, wonderful views, massive bathroom with excellent edwardian facilities, more than enough towels & very good heating, which is a must for me. Quality tea/coffee / biscuits , no stinting.

No hairdryer, despite one being advertised, so I took this as being a mere oversight.

Breakfast was very good. I was in the annex and it does need some tlc. I would've preferred to be in main building as l remember it from my son's wedding reception when we stayed in 2004. Also heing on my own at my age l felt a bit nervous in the annex alone. I realize there has veen flood problems so hopefully the refurbishment will bring it back to its full glory. Staff were all very welcoming and compliments to chef on breakfast great choice just need marmalade which was a small issue as l had s treat with Nutella but och the calories. Sorry to give the manager a fright though when l overslept andmy son was worried. Hope yo return in 2024. Kind regards and all the best Xmas blessings...Fiona Darwin

Staying alone in the annex.....l was scared but great bath.

Risley Hall is an old listed building. Sure, there are some areas that need a touch of redecoration but covid lockdowns have made finances very tight. Risley will recover given time. It's in a great location between Derby and Nottingham near the M1. The room is fantastic - we choose a family room to get 2 rooms and separate bathroom & walk-in shower. We went last year, and this year. Michael (catering) remembered us from last year. We will go again next year. Good furniture (old not modern). Interesting history - see the large book in the reception area.

Sorry. but I'm not going to nit-pick over a few bits of 'tired' decoration

Wonderfully quirky and full of charm. My room was clean and very large and comfortable. Sure, it’s a bit run down and I understand why it’s perhaps not everyone’s cup of tea but many will find its eccentricities adorable. if you want modern, spotless perfection, go somewhere else, but if you enjoy faded grandeur, plenty of character and a sense of the past, you’ll appreciate this. I absolutely loved it ! There is a new manager who is making great efforts to rectify aspects that some customers have complained about in reviews. I hope he succeeds. It’s a unique and unforgettable hotel.

Softer LED bulbs would be better than the harsh, white ones in my room.

We wanted somewhere to stay for a night, and this placed was priced well and fit the bill. People need to cut a little slack after reading all the bad reviews. For the price I didn’t think it was bad at all, Risley hall is set in impressive grounds and you could see years ago this this would have been a grand place. You can see that over the years it’s been a little neglected which is a shame but our room was not bad with big tvs in each room. Beds were clean and overall was satisfactory but could do with a deep clean, but again you can’t complain for the price. Hot Breakfast was served from 8am and everything was as expected English breakfast/cereals/ yogurts/teas/coffees/juices etc. I had an English breakfast which was nice all cooked to a decent standard. Also the breakfast room was probably the nicest room and looked a bit more cared for. I’d say to get everything back to its grand state it would need a few mill invested but then the price of rooms would be double if not triple. Would I stay here again, the answer is yes as the price was decent for a night, breakfast was good and it served a purpose.

There’s seems to be a lack of maintenance or who, or the current maintenance teams finishing is really up the the spec of what it should be.

The room was absolutely amazing so big and authentic of the period and age of the building. Bathroom was immaculate with a large free standing bath. Was luxury. Breakfast was so much better this time food to order and really good.

I was put in that room because the room I was meant to be in hadn't been hoovered. Had the hoover broken because this room hadn't been hoovered either. Cleaning standards across hotel rooms in general I've seen drop I now take slippers with me everywhere but the bathroom was immaculate.

Absolutely loved the hotel, the location was lovely and the hotel had so much character. Lovely big room and bathroom, comfortable bed. On our 1st night the guy who checked us in and was working, couldn't do enough for us or other guests. It was lovely walking round the grounds. Lovely full English and great choice of continental breakfast. Would highly recommend and make your own mind up and ignore the negative comments.

Breakfast could be improved as eggs Benedict were disappointing but full English was great.

Lovely building & setting . Nice to walk through the gardens & woods . Room 6 was generally a clean enough room even with its tired dated decor, Decent shower & bath ., which was nice . Very good wi -fi & TV . . Great value room for the price .

We stayed in room 6 . There were water leak stains on the ceiling , bent chandelier , curtains hanging off at the ends . Inside of bathroom cupboard had not been cleaned . It wouldn’t take much to make this a really good room , but was a a very good on - line price .

The room was spacious and clean. I liked the fact that we could sleep with a window open at night as there was a security catch on it in the open position. The shower had a catch-all screen so that the floor didn't get wet and there was no worry about that. The water pressure in both the shower and bath/shower was good and the temperature was right. I liked the design of the bedside lamps.

We found that the TV had not been tuned in. My husband had been intending to watch a programme. It was too late to do anything about it that evening. When my husband went to reception to report the fault, he was informed that there had been a severe storm the night before and that none of the TVs were working because of that and that they would all need to be reset. It would have been better if he would have been informed about that on arrival. Also, towels were nor replaced with clean ones. There had been a notice about the fact that we needed to contact reception if we needed anything like that; post Covid it was not automatic. We did not see the notice. Though did get clean towels on request.
