Great location in the centre of Southwold. A beautiful building with so much history and the room was comfortable and spacious for a building of this age. Amenities excellent and new, modern bathroom was a nice touch. We didn’t eat at the attached restaurant, but it looked very good!

Understandable that there is no air conditioning but the fan provided was not for purpose on a hot summers day/evening. This is an old building so things do creak a little, which only adds to its charm, but if total silence is your thing then this may not be for you.

Perfect location. Comfortable bed. Lovely, helpful staff. Clean. Convenient for walking to restaurants, shops, beach, etc.

The showering facilities, quite primitive. It was a beautiful roll top bath, but showering with a handheld shower was pretty dreadful, especially if you were sandy. Also, nowhere to put your toiletries or towels near the bath (small stand) or sink. One hook for two robes. Face on wardrobe, so clothes were behind each other. Lots of noise from restaurant below and room above.

The suite was gorgeous, well appointed and clean. Lovely shower. Plenty of good quality tea and coffee. We ate in the restaurant and were delighted. Sooooooo tasty and a good choice, we ate outside which added an extra something. Mood music added to a refined and relaxed atmosphere. Delighted to have found this little gem in Southwold which took us back in time to the England we remembered. Rested and restored by this stay

Can’t think of anything I would change

Beautiful, historic building. The room and bathroom was large and the beds were comfy. Elegantly decorated. Loved the beams and the creaky floor boards. It was a privilege to stay there even for a small while. The coffee station was excellent with really good quality tea and coffee supplied.

Nothing that was in the host's control (possibly lack of information on Booking.com website?)- the large slipper bath was a super idea but both my mother and I have mobility issues and the lack of the shower was a small issue. Only minor because we only stayed for one night.

Thank you to our lovely hosts Andy and Kinga for a wonderful stay! We were in the perfect location for our weekend getaway to explore beautiful Southwold - set back from the hustle and bustle and close enough to step out onto the high street and just a short walk to the sea front. Comfortable and clean room with great views of the church and of the lighthouse! We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast and had the best stay!

nothing not to like

Lovely stay staff were excellent and very friendly couldn’t do enough for you. Room was really nice loved the ceiling in our room bed was so comfortable and big shower room was excellent. Lovely tea and coffee in the room and robes as well. No parking is the only negative but even that is being picky it’s basically a 2 minute walk once you’ve dropped your suitcase off to the free parking round the corner! Lots of lovely shops near by and beach is a 10 minute walk if that.

All the period features

Lovely room and slept so well! Shower excellent and location was on the high street perfect! Very friendly owner who gave us advice and history if the hotel.

Would prefer fresh milk in the room. Breakfast was tasty but not enough of it. Was expecting a buffet with additional fruit, cereal, yogurt tea or coffee etc. Had to pay for additional coffee which shocked us. We left hungry :( and a hole in our pocket.

Brilliant location, right in the centre of the village. Very comfy and spacious bedroom with a separate sitting room. Great shower.

Access to the first floor is via an easy staircase. But the start of the stairs to the second floor are very steep on a bend and with no hand grab. Anyone with any mobility issue would really struggle. They should mention this clearly in the booking information.

The room was stunning, such a beautiful ceiling, great size and refreshments. The location is very central so perfect from that point of view. Would highly recommend it.

Unfortunately we weren't able to get breakfast the following morning, which was understandable given the person I spoke to said they had a hospital procedure, however surprised they don't have cover for any circumstances where the main people are unable to attend.

We stayed in the James ll room, fantastic! Amazing to be able to stay in a room with so much history and a 15th century ceiling. Very comfortable, spacious and all good. Parking (free) is a short walk away, but not a problem, although I could imagine it being a bit full during high season. Easy to drop bags at the rear of the property. We ate in the restaurant which was equally fantastic. Food, service and wine were all wonderful. I would come back just for the monkfish wellington! Highly recommended.
