Loved my stay. The room was beautiful & spacious, with a wonderfully comfortable bed. Simple but very tastefully decorated. The bath was a godsend, & the bath lotions & potions were lovely. Even the tea & coffee tray was perfect. Home made cookies, fresh milk & large mugs. I had dinner here, & ate outside under a tented cover, with a beautiful view watching the sun set. The food & wine was excellent. Just wonderful.

One TINY thing which could’ve been an issue if clientele were all sitting inside, or I’d wanted an early night, the room I had was directly over the bar and you can literally hear the conversations in there!

We happened across The Compasses Inn as we needed somewhere to stay locally for work, but had no idea what a treat we had in store. The attention to detail of the team here is second to none and the rooms are excellent and well appointed. We had to leave before breakfast service on our first morning, and so were treated to a hamper of beautifully presented and delicious goodies left outside our room. The cooked breakfast on our second day was also superb. Make sure you book ahead for dinner, as this place is rightly enormously popular. The menu is well curated, and excellently executed. The bar/restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere, and such charmingly hosts.

Host and staff all very helpful and accommodating during our stay. The family room was very clean, lovely decor, cozy beds and bathroom all good..all made the more welcoming by the homemade cookies in the room. We had dinner and breakfast at the Inn, all of which was first class (product and cooking), against the tranquil setting of the open fire. Overall , fully recommend a weekend away or overnight stay (as we did) in the Compasses Inn , all the comfort, quality and warmth one requires when looking for a relaxing stay.

The Compasses Inn is a gem that we coincidentally found after visiting Stonehenge. Off the beaten track but very worthwhile to visit and stay. The originally 14th century inn has a dark brown pub that serves locally sourced food. The rooms are pleasantly modern, fitting the ancient building and with natural materials. Absolutely nice! Staff is very friendly, breakfast tasty, according to your preference (vegetarian in our case). Considering all of this, the price was more than reasonable. Very recommendable!

What an amazing location, really tucked away! Don't think for a second that this means it's a backwater or not top notch. We stayed for one night and were the first to arrive, loads of parking, staff were so incredibly helpful, we decided to eat in the pub, and both had amazing food and a brilliant evening, as it was busy and full of atmosphere. Staff were great, so professional and completely down to earth. This is a real hidden gem. Room was lovely, can't fault The Compasses at all.

Couldn’t have asked for any better - this will tick every box if you’re looking for a charming, cosy and relaxing countryside getaway with excellent food and lovely staff. The rooms are so tastefully decorated and clean, the pub itself - located through a small door underneath the hotel - is beautiful and quaint. Surrounding countryside is gorgeous and had an amazing view of the stars at night.

Plum Cottage was perfect for a family of four. We arrived to a charmingly designed cottage, Lovely Xmas touches, welcome cookies, milk in the fridge. Everything you might need. Very comfortable beds. Truly delicious pub supper and breakfast too. Great ambience. Thank you to all at the Compasses for a lovely stay. The locally sourced and very delicious burgers were so good, my son had two!

Can’t fault a thing!

The cottage is beautiful. There was tea and coffee and home made cookies. We were made to feel welcome by the owners and locals. The weekend we stayed, there was a bbq, music and plenty of cider. Breakfast was lovely and a great way to start the day. The cottage/pub is found down narrow country lanes and is easy to find with the help of Waze.

The staff were amazing, Carlos was so helpful and went above and beyond for us. We were a group of 9 and he made sure our stay was fantastic.

The milk in the room was warm and off. I suggested maybe giving the guests longline milk as we didn't have a fridge and I was told I could go into the village and buy some!

It was quirky, quite different to other places we have stayed. The food, service and bar area/atmosphere were outstanding. It was absolutely packed when we arrived on the Sunday, with people enjoying lunch. It was great to see the popularity of a place that was pretty out of the way and wouldn’t rely on passing trade. We had a delicious, faultless breakfast with lovely homemade items like bread and compote.

I would have liked a more comfortable sofa or armchair in our room. The restaurant was too busy to make the cookies for the rooms that day, which was a shame!
