I had a fantastic stay at the Anvil and will definitely be back. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Staff are very friendly. The location is excellent for exploring North Dorset and beyond. Wifi is fast enough for remote working (Teams Calls/Onlien teaching). The pub food including the breakfast, is of excellent quality and superb value for money.
Its not that I didnt like this, it is just that I didn't thinking about the fact the building is an old thatched building with low ceilings and narrow corridors. It was not a problem for me at all at a petite 170cm but my nearly 2M tall husband would have struggled here I think so it was a good job I was travelling alone this time.

The breakfasts were delicious. Evening meals also very good. It was quite an experience staying at the Inn because such an old property with low beams. Enjoyed good walks up into countryside and around village in the evenings. The staff were friendly and helpful. Easy to travel to Blandford Forum by bus in term time and from there to Poole by bus. No buses at weekends. Park and ride for Salisbury excellent.
Didn’t realise it was so close to the road but the clue is in the name, I’ve made this mistake before. The A354 wasn’t busy though and minimal traffic noise. It was easy to get bus to Poole and Blandford Forum but no buses at weekends.

Cosy, comfortable room, close to the areas we wanted to visit. The room was exceptionally clean and the facilities were maintained to a high standard. We had a beautiful large double room at the front of the pub, and despite the age of the building it wasn't noisy. The beds were very clean and comfortable for a good night's sleep, although much softer than we are used to. Breakfast was included with our booking and we managed to get up early enough one day of our three booked days to enjoy it; delicious, high quality local ingredients. We will stay here again.
There was nothing about our stay we didn't like.

What a lovely old Inn. Good to have free parking just outside and with a bar and good restaurant there really is no need to go anywhere. I found the checkin seamless and the staff all very friendly and professional. Being a 17th Thatched Pub you’ll need to duck to mind your head upstairs. The rooms were very clean, comfortable and tea and coffee making facilities in room. Shower was hot and very powerful. Restaurant had a good selection of English comfort foods at reasonable prices. Overall a great experience and would definitely recommend.
Upstairs not good if you’re tall. My room overlooked the beer garden which was a little noisy in evening.

The Anvil Inn is beautiful thatched inn with an attractive interior comprising ancient rustic exposed beams and inglenook fireplaces. With a nice garden it is a perfect place to enjoy a drink and dine both inside and out doors. It's location makes it a perfect place to stay and explore many local attractions, such as Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, Poole, Sandbanks, Swanage, Corfe Castle, and Brownsea Island via ferry from Poole. Don't miss seeing Red Squirrels on Brownsea Island in the woods just behind the church. If you love heritage steam Railways then Swanage to Corfe Castle by steam train is a must. The RSPB nature reserve at Arne is wonderful place for a walk and maybe spot an adder or sand lizard. And though a bit expensive a sea trip from Lulworth Cove to view Durdle Door from sea is spectacular.
Nothing of note.

Great location, parking and staff were friendly and helpful. Room was fine, a bit of a basic bathroom, but clean and comfortable. Restaurant had a great selection of food and was clearly very popular as it was very busy. I like the idea of pre-ordering what you would like for breakfast, so save on waste (if it was a buffet)
It might be an idea to put bottles of water in the rooms (tea and coffee making facilities were fine) as we had to pop back down to the bar for water. Our room also overlooked the smoking area and car park so we couldn't open our windows until the next morning

We had no idea where to stay after flying in from Finland. We were heading to Cornwall and we chose a destination 2-21/2 hours from Heathrow and just put a pin on the map. This is what came up and boy we were happy with our luck. The room although small and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was powerful and warm. The dinner and the breakfast were both superb and they kept asking if we wanted anything else. No need as it was more than enough. We took a walk around the village in the morning and this was a really nice surprise as it was a lovely little charming village. Exceeded our expectations by far. We would highly recommend. 👍👍👍
The size of the room.

Overall my experience of this hotel was lovely. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the Inn was a delightful building. I would recommend it and would stay here again if I was in the area.
Being hyper-critical the cooked breakfast was good but could have been a little better in a couple of ways. The room similarly was small, but it did say it would be, but I think it could have been a bit better. The fold-up table would have been better if it was a wall fixed hinged shelf instead. The kettle was cheap and cheerful but actually not that safe, as the cable was too short to fit properly on said table, and there was no other place to plug it in. My only other niggle was the lack of a nonslip surface or mat in the shower.

Beautiful quirky place with a fab beer garden. Food was so good. Had an evening meal and breakfast. Staff were so friendly and made you feel so welcome. Single room was cosy, lovely and comfortable..was a little cold , but if I knew how to work the heated towel rail, before the morning, think that would have warmed it up. Very popular with locals as well as other guests. Restaurant.was full for the evening meal..and rooms fully booked.
Nothing at , it was lovely and definitely be returning when in the area again.

This is a charming old pub/hotel with lots of character just outside Blandford. The room though small was very comfortable and we appreciated that our request for a walk in shower was met. Plenty of in room coffee etc provided and the staff were very pleasant. Food in the restaurant was excellent. Can recommend.
Twisty stairs could be a problem for some and one glass of beer was returned as being a bit off. But little else to dislike.
