I liked the location of this hotel; it was in between smaller towns with local-only shops, restaurants, groceries, etc., but still easily accessible to bigger cities and attractions if you needed to make a Target run. Liked that the hotel was pretty quiet - we stayed during the week, so it might be more lively on the weekends. It was pet-friendly, which we will keep in mind if we're ever out west again. Also appreciated the little market on the corner of the hotel; I grabbed an ice cream sandwich and some chips one night while I was waiting on my travel partner to finish getting ready.

It wasn't the quietest place I've stayed. The heating/air unit was a little loud, which was fine b/c I appreciate the white noise, but the hotel is on a highway, so there was a decent amount of traffic noise. If I could have figured out how to get the fan to run constantly, it would have helped drown that out. If you're a light sleeper, you might want something to help with that. Also, be aware there isn't an elevator. If you can't deal with carrying bags up 2 flights of outdoor stairs, you might want to request a ground-floor room.

We liked the location. Close to the town's interesting mixture of mountain living and Santa Cruz. The size of the room was large and it had a nice balcony that looked over the area. This hotel has an interesting history and the adjoining shopping center (small) had entertainment and a bar.

Our biggest disappointment was that the restaurant located inside the main building had closed. Management is searching for another restaurant owner to open it again. We did not have the hotel "breakfast" because we ate at the local favorite breakfast cafe.

The Brookdale Lodge has comfortable beds and the front desk staff is always friendly. The food in the diner, although a bit pricey, is really good. I love the balcony off the rooms. We didn't get to use it because of inclement weather but it's still a nice touch in Spring and Summer.

I asked for a top floor room because I'm a light sleeper and you can hear every footstep from above. I was given a lower-level room....my bad for not asking to change rooms. Food in the diner is a bit pricey. $5 for a can of coke and a glass of ice is pretty steep.

The room was large and clean. The staff is helpful. The shower had great water pressure and was the bed was comfortable. The location is close to Henry Cowell SP and there are many fun places to discover nearby.

We were there on a Tuesday night. The restaurant, pool, bar/lounge, and other parts of the property closed, there wasn’t much to do there once we checked in. There are lots of things to discover in nearby towns though and I imagine more amenities are open on the weekend.

Excellent location nestled in the Santa Cruz redwoods, where they’ve preserved some of the redwood trees around the property. We were there during the reopening of their bar and grill, so it was very lively with a band playing, food vendors, etc. Ice Cream shop right next to the check in office. Rooms look to be recently remodeled, very nice and clean.

No coffee, and the AC was a bit old and didn’t keep the temp down at night

The food was ok, it could be better but it was good

I ordered a medium well burger but received a very rare hamburger. Other than that no complaints here, loved the atmosphere and the fact that pets are welcomed there. The live music at the bar was amazing as well. Staff is so friendly, just loved it. We will be back multiple times this summer for a relaxing mini getaway

The setting with all the big trees. Super quiet and clean. The manage was very helpful and even helped us with our luggage. Thank you

We were disappointed that the Lodge with the stream flowing through it was closed. We had been to a Wedding Breakfast theree over 20 years and wanted to see it again. Also, we hadn't planned on stairs.

A convenient location close to Santa Cruz and the ocean, nested in the woods and within a few minutes from the Henry Cowell State Park. The rooms were spacious with nice porches.

The hotel could use a refresh of some of its facilities (it seems the pool is undergoing renovations). Not much to do within walking distance.

It's an historical place with lodge architecture in a beautiful mountain setting. The room was a nice size. The desk was helpful. The Italian restaurant in the town to the North was excellent. Very close to the Redwoods.

The property is a little run down. The restaurant is not in operation so we had to drive to town for dinner and breakfast.

Gorgeous location; large charming rooms that are both updated and comfortable. I walked in and it reminded me of my grandparents home in Florida - something about the smell of carpet and fresh wood. I could have to stayed there forever. I loved being able to read out on my balcony overlooking the beautiful trees. This was a great place, and a great price, affordable for an average family.

Nothing - we loved it
