Mendocino Hotel's location is ideal. You can walk to everything. It's lovely to be in the village and so close to the sea. I also love that it has been a lodging place since the community began.

It IS an historic hotel and the room was TINY. The square footage is accurately reported in the listing, but it still shocked me (that's on me, not them). It was also pretty warm in the room and only by opening the door to the outside walkway can you let any air in. But you can't open the door, because it's a walkway with access to other rooms AND the street. Also, the bar next door doesn't keep music on late, but people chat on the patio, which is just the other side of the room we were in.

In the heart of town. Had good parking throughout our stay. Easy drive to hiking trails. Our first night we had an issue with fire alarm. The battery decided to die at 1 am. We were unable to mute it and no one could come take care of it. In the morning I went the office and spoke to the manager( or owner not sure) she was super nice and understanding and took care of the issue in a satisfactory way. I didn’t have to demand or ask for anything she offered solutions right away and professionally. Anytime we go back I’ll be staying here.

Love this hotel - great location right on the water and walking distance to everything in town. hotel itself is funky - best rooms are cabins in the back that have fireplaces.

We originally booked a queen room with private bathroom on the hotel itself. It was a full bed in a tiny room, no tv. definitely not worth the $150+ a night. also the fireplace has been broken in the hotel lobby for more than a year. Hotel is closing for much needed renovations, we look forward to returning next year and seeing what some upgrades look like at this mendo classic.

Historic, attractive, nice gardens, great location. Beautiful lobby restoration. Room was small but nice, and the bed was comfortable. Fun old-timey photos on the walls. Good shower. The people extra nice.

I can’t say I DISLIKED anything. There were just a few small things that could simply be because it is an old building. Nothing that made me uncomfortable. 1) There was no thermostat. Heat was supplied by a space heater. Not a disaster when weather is relatively mild, but I wonder how it is when it is cold. I would not like to run the space heater all night. 2) there was only a single plug that served both the coffee pot and the heater. so I could have my coffee or be warm, but not both at the same time. 3) the drapes were nice enough, but the linings were in bad shape. Again nothing that affected my comfort. Just gave the room a bit of a shabby feel.

Location - ocean views, fog permitting, comfortable suite, brass four-poster, balcony

Run-down appearance (broken window, weeds growing along curb, bird poop on hand rail at front door) all scream "we don't care!" Steep (very steep) staircase and reluctance of staff to help toting bags up them. Hotel's own website still boasts "full service", bar and restaurant which has been untrue since the Pandemic. To be fair Booking.com makes no such claims

The historical aspects of the building really made some of the other "unusual" accommodations worth it. It's very cute! The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay and beyond. The view on the shared patio and the location of the hotel makes up for the price point. The shared bathrooms were nicer than I thought they'd be.

It's a very old building, meaning old world style with very small rooms/beds, very thin walls, and shared rest rooms for some. I didn't hate that part so much, but the price tag was a bit high. The town is a wedding hub though, so prices were high everywhere you looked.

The hotel is the quant, beautiful, historic, and the location is spectacular. The staff is always available and provided me the best customer service I’ve had in years. The room was magnificent with its views of the ocean and I felt like I was back in time at Virginia City. It’s a historic hotel and you get the entire experience of feeling like how travelers have faired for over a hundred years. I will be back again we loved every moment

Everything was absolutely perfect and as expected

Perfect location, and the deck surrounding the hotel on the second story (which was where our room was) was beautiful; we loved spending time there. Swing on porch very nice. Staff friendly and accommodating.

Outdoor furniture old and deck chairs all torn. Only one sitting chair in the room, when there were two of us. Smell of hotel when first entering was not fresh; the hotel is obviously not kept up to its old glory.

I like that I was in a cottage and they have beautiful gardens.

The coffee maker didn’t work. they only had one person on the desk so he couldn’t replace it for a couple hours. And then that one didn’t work either. The next morning, I was brought another one that did work. They no longer have a restaurant .

We really liked our room! And the quiet…. The bed was so comfortable. We were so relaxed, we never turned on the TV. We walked everywhere, our car was parked our entire stay. The restaurants in town were excellent and people were mellow!!

The shower was difficult in managing hot water versus cold. I thought we had reserved a queen bed. Turned out to be a king but was comfortable.we enjoyed our stay and wanted to spend an extra night but due to an appointment we couldn’t.
