There is no comment about the room, location and cleanness. All are good. To look at the city view, this hotel could be an alternative hotel. The hotel is also attractive. Staff are friendly.
The cost is a bit expensive. The next important thing that needs to be improved is to avoid the noise from other rooms. It is because the room is not sound proofed. Majorities of hotels provide brushes, toothpaste, boiling stuff, drinking water at the room, which are missing.

We had a one bedroom suite on the high floors with two big kids sleeping on the sofa bed in the living room. It was very roomy with a lot of storing space. It was very pleasant with a lot natural light. For the evening the lightning is both comfy and efficient, two qualities not often present together. The furnitures are nice and overall I would say the room was very nice. Even with the sofa bed open, it is large enough to move around and use the table in the living room to eat, which can come in handy.
There is nothing in the room to make a cup of coffee or tea. For a 4 star hotel, this is very surprising and unpleasant. They make up for this by offering coffee in the morning in the lobby. It is better than nothing but it would be much better and quite simple to add a coffee machine in every room. As for the neighborhood, it is very handy and I never felt frightened but I would advise to always leave the hotel going north or west. Going east towards tenderloin or south especially south of market towards 6th and 7th is a whole different story and I would advise not do so, especially at night. Setting off at Powell st station is much better than at mc Alister after 8pm

Beautiful historic hotel, lovely contemporary room fitout. Spero is well located for linking into the BART, the various buses and even the cable car. The staff are lovely, and happy to point you the way to wherever you need to cover your travel logistics.
It's a shame there's not a laundry facility onsite - though the SF Rinse/ Hideaway Cafe is nearby and a great spot for a coffee while your washing spins :) Yes there is some homelessness in SF, and a block west of the hotel is a little confronting in the early morning around the bus stops. It shouldn't stop you choosing the Spero.

Very comfortable room, professional and helpful reception staff. Location good for accessing transport and Union Square.
I had to transfer rooms at the beginning because the air conditioning was broken. The pleasant nature of the hotel inside was let down by homeless/destitute people on neighbouring streets and by a long standing industrial dispute outside the Hilton hotel across the street which ran from 7 am to 10 pm everyday. Whilst these two factors were beyond the control of the hotel’s staff, they did detract from the overall experience and my initial view of San Francisco.

The property is a nice building with plenty of character.
There wasn’t anything wrong with the property, unfortunately the location isn’t the greatest. In all the places we’ve travelled we have never seen homelessness and poverty as bad as San Francisco downtown area. We were advised by the check in clerk which areas to avoid, 3 of which were close to the Hotel Spero. The protests at the Hilton hotel 24hrs a day also impacted our stay as we didn’t sleep for 3 nights. Constant chanting and from 7am until late they were blaring sirens and banging drums, again nothing to do with Hotel Spero but it ruined the stay for us. I personally wouldn’t return to San Francisco as it’s the first place we’ve ever felt unsafe walking down the street.

We had a great experience at Hotel Spero. The hotel's design and room were awesome, the staff was friendly, and everything was clean. I especially loved the complimentary coffee and tea stand every morning. Our room had a beautiful view, and the location near Union Square was perfect. I would choose to stay here again.
While the hotel's location is near some of San Francisco's less secure areas, Hotel Spero ensures safety as I felt safe every time I entered the hotel. Though the room wasn't completely soundproof, they provided earplugs for a more comfortable stay.

Location, price not excessive for location, staff
SF has lots of homeless- not the fault of the property but travelers should be mindful and understanding of the situation

Outside of booking.com reviews there are very mixed reviews about the hotel which concerned me. I have to say from someone who has stayed in many hotels those concerns were unfounded. The hotel is clean, rooms are well decorated and beds are comfortable. The bathroom while on the small side is completely fine and more than adequate. I'd seen some pictures of how small it was but it's a typical size for San Francisco.
Nothing really, the reception desk would be the only thing I'd suggest as an improvement as it's the first place visitors go and could do with a refurb,

The room was comfortable and clean, staff were so friendly and helpful. We really appreciated the free morning coffee in the hotel lobby, and the gym was so handy to use during our stay. Great location for it's connectivity to other parts of the city.
Although the location was great for getting around on public transport and walking to nearby attractions, it was difficult to see homeless people living on the nearby streets. We felt safe walking past them but its good to be vigilant. We weren't aware of a deposit to be paid on arrival so the extra couple hundred dollars was an unexpected cost. It would have been good to know about this in advance so that we could plan our travel budget.
