The hotel is very nicely situated beside Golden Gate Park. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. The suite was spacious with a large dining area and separate kitchen. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking supplies and they provide some complimentary snacks! The breakfast and wine hour were both lovely.

I had some difficulty getting a receipt, but this has now been provided. There were a fair number of stairs to go up and down to get to our suite, which was challenging with a stroller, but the front desk attendant did help with our luggage which was very kind. It was a bit difficult to get the temperature controls right with just baseboard heaters in each room. The room with the pull out couch (the living room) had no door, so that was not ideal for sound transfer.

Breakfast lacked freshness and originality. Scrambled eggs and hard boiled eggs were okay. But fruits and vegetables were limited to bottled juices, bananas and overripe tangerines. Pastries were sadly presented in individual cellophane wrappers. Decor of breakfast room, however, was thoughtful and creative (included photos of Haight-Ashbury legends of the 1960s).

This hotel was in the best location, right next to the Golden Gate Park but also close enough to Haight St and the surrounding neighbourhood which also had cool bars and restaurants. Our room was super clean and the bed was extremely comfortable, nicely renovated bathroom also given the hotels age. Furniture was antique but all in working order so the place had a lot of charm, loved the wallpaper and the fact there were lots of mirrors and a decent wardrobe area. Breakfast was good also, nice bagels, yoghurt and cereal, complimentary wine hour was much appreciated too. Loved the 1920s music in the morning, and historic pictures of San Francisco and the hippie era throughout the hotel, the place seemed very well maintained! Being close to the park was a definite highlight as well, we spent time there each day wandering around exploring, only went downtown on our last day and were so glad we didn't stay there and chose this area instead.

There was lots of single use paper plates and plastic cutlery in the breakfast room, which leads to a lot of waste. Nothing else to comment on though, we had a great time here.

Very nicely located hotel, with a friendly staff and a nice cozy room, and bathroom. The neighborhood is really nice and I was within walking distance of the office, for work, and right by Amoeba Music, for record shopping.

Definitely the breakfast. I would have preferred to pay for breakfast and get some decent food and coffee, than have it be free, and... well... packaged croissants, some basic bread and watery coffee, I'm afraid.

Excellent location. Walking distance to the great museums and gardens in Golden Gate Park. Situated in a real neighborhood that is wonderful for walking. Lots of great restaurants, coffee shops, etc. around. Very warm and welcoming staff and we got great assistance from a friendly gentleman (I’m sorry I didn’t get his name, but we loved his energy) at the front desk for a dinner dining suggestion as well as where to take a neighborhood walk. Husband and I are in our 60’s and enjoyed the hotel and it’s large framed photos of old time San Francisco as well as the small nice lobby and breakfast/wine reception room. We opted for the “with breakfast” option and found it very nice. We enjoyed listening to the European languages of other guests over breakfast. This is a smaller, nicely maintained, cozy old hotel with lovely attendant quirkiness and character. More of a bed and breakfast vibe (in the best way) than an upscale luxury hotel. Perfect to feel absorbed into a real San Francisco experience.

Breakfast was continental but simple and had healthy selections Loved the complimentary wine hour ( which was usually extended if the guests were gathering for awhile) Family member of guests were welcome to join in Loved the old victorian ambiance but it was not overdone or fussy Location was great - right across from the entrance to Golden Gate Park. We walked to the Botanical Gardens, Japanese Tea Gardens and the De Young museum. Also walking distance to Haight Street as well as Cole Valley which has its own shops and restaurants.

Some of the front desk staff were inexperienced but it was over the July 4th holiday so the regulars were off.

The property was clean, the room was spacious enough. The hotel is close to the famous Haight/Ashbury area with lots of hip vintage shops and restaurants. Overall, I'd say it's a good value for money.

Temperature regulation in the room was bit finicky, it was either too hot or too cold at times. The breakfast area is small for the amount of people staying at the hotel, but it was still manageable.

Comfortable, spacious room. A bit above average breakfast included- good coffee! Wine in the lobby 5-6 pm. Wonderful location right across from the park. Great neighborhood with a nearby Whole Foods and plenty of restaurant options.

It was chilly and rainy, and the tiny electric heater didn't help much. Front desk staff on Sunday arrival was friendly and helpful. The next two days the people were indifferent at best, even when I greeted them. Overall I liked staying there and would recommend it.

Well maintained historic hotel with a lot of lovely photographs documenting the history of San Francisco. Very helpful and friendly staff. Coffee for breakfast was decent - good selection of hot and cold foods for breakfast. Amazing location, allowing the exploration of Golden Gate Park on foot.

Breakfast far from sustainable. Cakes, Croissants and Bagels all individually wrapped. All plates/cups/cutlery single use. No air condition in the room (it was hot in San Francisco) - but a fan was provided when it was requested. Puzzling operation of the shower.

Cozy and a little quirky. More character than a chain hotel brand. "Bed and Breakfast vibes without the social expectations. Good breakfast (continental+) and fee NY Times included. Very comfortable mattresses (firm). Free overnight parking on street.

Temperature control in rooms via baseboard heaters. Would be nice to have a little more lobby seating.
