The ambiance, elegance, history, & decor was like stepping back in time or staying in a museum with the comforts of home (shared kitchen & bathroom access). We were greeted well with a glass of wine & service was wonderful. Clean & serene... a birthday dream! (Another couple had a family there for a wedding... a fabulous location for photos!) The custom-made breakfast in the morning was absolutely delicious. The location was secure and in walking distance of the painted ladies & if you're feeling adventurous ~ you could keep going on to Haight-Ashbury.

Top floor rooms are with stair access only so you have to be fit & well to make it up (as it is an old Victorian home so we knew that upon making the reservations but an injury just prior to arrival made it a bit more challenging!) Room temp was not easily controlled... heat was on upon arrival so the room was sweltering & windows had to be opened with a tiny fan to air out the room. Had to leave windows up so there was noise from the busy street all night. Firm bed was a bit uncomfortable for side-sleepers.

What a delightful place to stay, warm welcoming and safe with a cozy atmosphere and dedicated staff. The breakfast it is such a nice touch, and a great way to start your day in the city. Special mention for the complimentary scones and jam they provide with that meal DO NOT skip them, I will be thinking about them for months. The staff and the beautiful architecture elevated our weekend getaway and made us want to return to repeat the experience!

The Chateau's unique flair and historic character add to its overall appeal. The building itself is a testament to San Francisco's rich history. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, making me feel welcome and at ease throughout my stay. I particularly enjoyed the variety of breakfast options.

I did find the shared bathroom to be a minor inconvenience. However, this was a minor drawback compared to the Chateau's many positive aspects.

This was the most beautiful home to stay in. I stay home because it felt like a home, they were so welcoming. It was gorgeous it was unique it was comfortable we loved everything. The room was absolutely amazing- it was HUGE and had so much cool history to share with my kids. They have deep bath tubs that were perfect for a soak after a long work day. They gave us cookies when we arrived- even texted to see what time we would be there so they could greet us. The house is amazing and the area is really clean and feels safe. My kids loved it and I can’t wait to stay there again!

The only small thing was that the pillows could’ve been a little softer! But really everything that was so great there, we loved our stay.

Gorgeous property, the details and care they took in restoring is incredible, such a unique and comfortable stay, felt like living in a mansion. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The location is quiet, safe, close to public transit, and in such a beautiful community

The beds were a little short..but to be expected for antique furniture

The house is stunning and beautifully decorated. The rooms are unique, cozy and peaceful to rest in. The staff was warm and welcoming. The breakfast was tasty!

We had a room upstairs that shared a quaint historic bathroom. I thought it was sweet however, the tub/shower was difficult for my partner to wash in as he is taller than me.

The very interesting building, full of character and history and beautifully restored

I did not realise that I would be sharing a bathroom . As it was I only had to for one night and the others were very considerate however had there been 4 of us sharing the small bathroom and one wc it might have been less pleasant

The place is beautiful and the location by the park of the Painted Ladies is lovely. The breakfasts are memorable as is the daily happy hour. Being able to lounge in the living room to the sound of soft classical music or jazz is delightful. This is my favorite place to stay in San Francisco.

There were no shade curtains in my room.

Friendly staff. Fantastic breakfast.

Like many older “character” properties there are some compromises. For example plumbing and bathroom weren’t up to modern standards however this is a trade off one accepts. Modern hotels tend to be soulless but Chateau Tivoli has soul in spades.

Breakfast was excellent, everything freshly made from a wonderful menu. We were in a downstairs room, no view at street level. Traffic noise was evident at all times but not excessive. Staff really friendly and helpful.

The Painted ladies is nearby but other attractions are a longer walk away, Golden Gate Park is about 25 minutes walk as is Haight Ashbury. Best to use Uber/taxi for Fisherman’s Wharf.
