I had to visit family at UCSF hospital and this is one of the closest, most affordable options. Most Uber rides were just $10 except for some surge one day. Very modern rooms with TVs that stream but no cable etc. The bed was very comfortable. My room on third floor was quiet I did not hear the lobby bar. There is a tiny balcony where I had coffee in the morning overlooking a peaceful area of neighbors' backyards and patios. Great location with plenty of restaurants etc. Even a nice market across the street to grab food for the room.

The rooms are very tiny. I honestly can't imagine being there with another person even though the bed was large. The sink is in the room not bathroom etc. It reminds me of rooms in Tokyo. That's really the only downside.

the location was amazing! it was in the heart of the castro but not directly on the street so it wasn’t as loud and active. it felt safe and clean. we got the bowie room and i loved that it was in the back of the building so even more privacy and less noise than if you got a room in the front. the bed was amazing (king deluxe) and having a nice tv with streaming services was relaxing. the shower was lovely tho small. the sink faucet was so low you can’t fill anything up with it (we used the shower head to fill our coffee kettle). easy to get around SF from this location. you store your luggage next door at hansens laundry. the owner was so kind and saw that we loved tea and gifted us with a herbal tea from his own collection. truly a gem and i would stay here again and again 🤍

small bathrooms, sink faucet really low. a little noisy from neighboring rooms.

Didn't know what to expect from a hotel where there was no staff on site. I was blown away! For an area with such limited space it is amazing & beautifully done. The room was clean with a very modern feel to it. Lots of light and even a small balcony. The "chips" they left for me bought a round of drinks at the bar downstairs. The rosemary fries and dipping sauce are delicious! The rooftop is equally beautiful and relaxing. A special shout out to Ryan! We only communicated via text, but he was awesome! I left something behind and texted him at 2:30AM 4 days after I left. I was shocked to get an immediate response from him! He assured me he would locate my lost item and get it back to me. We texted back & forth until 3:15AM. Who does that? That is incredible service and absolutely elevated my guest experience. Thank you, Ryan! You're a Rockstar! I look forward to staying at the Hotel Castro again!

Perfect location for a couple of days visiting the city... The room is nice and comfortable, just very small, with not much living space, but it has a beautiful view and is equipped with everything you need. Moreover, the shower is very spacious and large. I'm not used to online and self-managed check-ins and check-outs, but I must say that I had a great experience—everything went perfectly. Thank you!

...that there wasn’t much living space in the room and that no one was there to welcome me—it’s probably just a matter of habit, as here in Italy, hotels always have someone at reception.

I loved this hotel so much I almost don't want to leave a review because I don't want too many people to stay there and spoil it. Hotels outside of the Union Square area are hard to find and this one was perfect. The Castro is safe, clean and a real San Francisco neighborhood. My room was bright, clean, and so comfortable I never wanted to leave. And the design has a true boutique feel as opposed to just another corporate hotel. I loved the balcony overlooking gardens of local homes, as well as the view of the hills in the distance. I don't know if there were people staying on either side of me but I could hear the person above me every morning--walking around, moving things, etc--to the point that it woke me up but I'm a light sleeper so I just popped in my ear plugs. The rooftop views were phenomenal, better than any rooftop bar in the area. Lovely to watch the sunset. And there's an electric fire pit as well, though if it's windy I would not recommend using it. The Lobby Bar next door was an easy place to grab a drink from friendly bartenders. The crowd was a mix of locals and people staying in the hotel. There is a grocery store across the street and plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance. Mission Dolores Park is about a 10 min walk away. And either on foot or by public transit, it is quick and easy to access other great SF neighborhoods as well. I personally really liked the virtual aspect of the hotel. Checking in and out via the app was easy and adds privacy and removes moments of social anxiety. And as someone who doesn't like my room cleaned every day in a hotel because I like my things to be left "just so," I appreciated that you have to request cleaning via the app if your stay is under a certain amount of days. I was sad to leave and can't wait to come back.

I had a lovely time at the Hotel Castro. The location is AMAZING (at the heart of Castro) - literally walking distance for the main spots in Castro and in front of a supermarket Besides that a few good points: _ Black-out curtains are very effective _ Air conditioning very potent _ The balcony is great to hang out and see the movement on streets _ The building and accommodation is very new, modern and very well equipped. _ The room was very clean _ The rooftop has an awesome view

A few attention points, but only as attention points - as I would definitely stay there again: 1/ The room is not big. The space is limited - I was by myself and got the smaller room so it was not a problem, but is a limited space to hang clothes, store luggage. 2/ The mini-fridge is not that big too and not very strong - but keeping it with only a few thing you’ll be ok 3/ The bathroom is a little dark, the lights are not very strong 4/ I think it’s informed in a few places but just to highlight that the clean service is not on the package - available upon request (w/ extra fees). Anyway, the trash is removed everyday. 5/ There’s no front desk “in person” - all the check-in/out and communication is online/via phone. They usually answers fast.

The room was gorgeous and comfortable. It's really well designed. The balcony facing the garden was just perfect for my morning coffee. Really brought out the essence of being in San Francisco. Perfectly located in Castro to really be in the heart of the LGBTQIA+ community

Entering codes from the front door, to the elevator, to the room was a bit exhausting. Maybe they can leverage more on tech in that regard e..g tap the phone to the locks instead..

It was súper comfy the room, and the process of a virtual front desk at first i was a bit scared of it but it worked so smoothly, I’ll definitely be back Loved they don’t use single use plastic and have the water filtre available for everyone to refill bottles

Great location. Checkin and checkout were smooth. Hotel bar was awesome

Nothing bad but just one suggestion for a slightly easier experience with checkout. When the QR code is scanned by the person checking out, it should already be linked by you to the confirmation number. Having to go find that in my email to proceed was an unnecessary extra step, and a little stressful because a Lyft was waiting for me.

Room was super small, but OK for just 1 person. Bed was massive and very comfy. Room was very clean. Checkout + in was clear and easy.

Water in the shower didn't get hot. It was only warm. Room temperature was also very cold and the heating system didn't get it warm. I should have packed warmer clothing to stay here.
