My husband surprised me with a night away for just the two of us and he found Silver Heart through a google search. For us this was a staycation. The house is gorgeous, there’s no other word for it. It’s historic and I fell in love with it. The cottages, there are two, were super cute. We stayed in the beach cottage and I loved it. The hot tub was a lovely bonus as was the fire pit. We had unseasonably cool weather for August, so we were able to use the fire pit. The hot tub made me want to buy one for myself. It is secluded in a closed off area in the back of the cottage. The owner was an amazing host. Very personable, warm, and friendly. They were attentive the entire time we stayed.

The bed was not comfortable, there was a dip in the center. It’s loud with sirens, but I’m from the city, I grew up with those sounds and I was able to tune them out. I can see, however, that some people might be disturbed. It didn’t take anything away from the experience at all.

The property was pretty, I loved the historic feel and the hosts were absolutely lovely, the breakfast was good and honestly for the price a really good find in a hotel near KC. The rooms were clean, the hot tub was nice and the snack bar was really cute, they provided an assortment of teas and snacks. Hosts were incredibly helpful, breakfast with other guests was delightful. We appreciated the option of Netflix compared to hotels who only carry cable. You first walk into this grand kitchen with a big island, I wanted to live in that kitchen, I just love their setup. Great experience!

The beds were extremely uncomfortable but not so much that I couldn’t sleep, just hard to adjust because the beds are very hard. The host did mention they are working on replacing the beds to another guest. If they do this, I would 10/10 recommend this place over staying in almost any other hotel in KC even if Independence is not the nicest town, I’m not sure if you’ll find a better deal.

The owner, Charles, is friendly and helpful. He is very respectful of a person's privacy. Breakfast was delicious. Everything is made from scratch. Tea and coffee are available at any hour. I stayed in the house rather than one of the cottages. It contains a lot of history and is beautifully decorated. It is also situated several miles from the downtown square and Truman Presidential Library.

The house is close to the street and people race at night. The inn very thoughtfully provided early plugs which I found helpful.

We stayed in the Beach Cottage. The private hot tub made it worth the stay. Bed was very comfortable, and the decor was very homey. The breakfast was delicious. Owners couldn't have been more friendly or helpful-- they helped me book a last minute in-room couple's massage that was nothing short of miraculous. The grounds were small - like a double backyard - but while there was traffic on the other side of the fence, it was like being in a separate little world-- like stepping into a romantic Victorian hideaway with a little magic in the air. I have a rather bad chronic pain condition that's been impossible to treat lately. After two days in the hot tub and the 60-minute massage, I didn't need any of my pain medications for almost a week. (This was huge.) We definitely recommend this B&B to any couple looking for a reset. We will definitely be back. :-)

The only drawback was that the Beach Cottage had a very strong, very bad odor. It reminded me of stepping into my great-grandma's house right before she passed. It smelled like a combo of stale air, mildew, mold, and old, overcooked grandma food. It was pervasive and kind of made our clothes smell bad, but I bought some Glade plug-ins and used some disinfecting Lysol air freshener I found in the laundry room that kept the smell under control. Other suggestion- not a complaint - would be to leave out little dosing cups of chlorine/chemicals to add in after an evening in the hot tub to maintain water levels. (I've stayed at other B&Bs that did that and it especially helps on multiple night stays.)

Excellent breakfast a la Charles. Cool to be staying at part of a historic building/house. Very different feel, liked the private cottages. Charles called when I left my laptop charger and I came by to pick it up. Appreciated the extra effort because he did offer to mail it to me.

The staff made my stay exceptional. The property offers a great deal of history, charm and warmth. It is well maintained, clean and feels like a wonderful way to step back in time. The meals prepared by Frankie were delicious! Charles is welcoming and will make you feel right at home!

Travelling for a long time so this was a great little break from hotel rooms. Cooked our own meals and watched Netflix and had a hot spa while the laundry was done. Very close to the Truman Presidential Library and Hivee grocery store recommended by host. Great find.

I love that they kept the old style of the house and didn't update it like most hotels. The room was clean and the bed was soft. The breakfast was the best part I've never had a better french toast.

The street that the place is located is pretty busy but they do provide ear plugs which is nice.

Newish owner was super friendly upon arrival! We stayed for our anniversary and as an independence area local I've driven past it all the time decided to stay! Charming, absolutely charming. The beach cottage was clean, comfortable, the cottage has its own private hot tub completely private even from surrounding neighbors! Kitchen was not only stocked with dishes and pans but coffee, tea, liquid creamers, but the spices were stocked! Did not need to buy those small things like spices we forget when on holiday! Breakfast was amazing and cooked at the time we sat down, not buffet style! Full two course style breakfast not those horrible continental. Saturday was my partners favorite from scratch made biscuits and from scratch made gravy with an egg and a chicken sausage link after the first course of honey vanilla yogurt topped with home made plum jam and almond slices! Sunday was strawberry and cream filled French toast made with French bread.. and sausage. Served after the first coarse of a Waldorf salad! Coffee, tea, juice and water were available. And the beds.. when you stay on a bed that is better than at home... just amazing service, charming room.. and plenty of soft plush towels... a perfect romantic get away!!! The host is exactly the kind of inn keeper you find joy in visiting again

The only reason location is like 4 * out of 5 was its spring we had windows open and it was very close to a busy intersection and near a firehouse.. when windows are closed though the emergency vehicles and traffic is a lot more muffled and its quiet! But it is very close to a quiktrip and a grocery store! Close to independence Square and other historic travel spots!

Charles greeted us and showed us to our very comfortable suite. The old place has an interesting history and has been set up as a gracious Inn. We were treated to a delicious homemade pancake breakfast served in their beautifully decorated dining room. We sat at the East facing table by the window where the heiress etched her name and the names of 3 suitors she rejected in the glass. The best thing about the in is how very welcoming the Innkeepers are.
