Charming rooms in an old house. The local historical museum is in part of the first floor; unfortunately, we did not get to spend much time in the museum because we needed to leave soon after arrival for a family event elsewhere. A great place to relax for a couple nights at a bargain price.
The operators need to make it clear that one needs to call about 30 minutes prior to arrival to make sure some one will be there to let you in. We waited around for about 30 minutes after arrival before calling about check-in. Once we called, someone came in about 10 minutes. He was very nice about checking us in, gave us a quick tour of the museum, and told us about some of the history of Smithville.

Location was very easy to get to off the highway. The room accommodations were so perfect. The vintage decor, coxy feel, and spacious room and bathroom. The bathroom was beautiful from the floor tile to the claw tub and the green walls and floral wallpaper. It was done so well!
The mail floor was pretty cluttered making it hard to move around with our luggage. We had a pet with us and arrived after a long car ride so we would have liked to get to our room and settled first before getting the grand tour and history of home, the original owners, and property.

The host was waiting for us and very friendly, even though we arrived late at night. The property is in a lovely location, simple to get to by car, and has plenty of parking place. The birds were singing in the morning. The house is old (historical - one has to like it), but I prefer it compared to new hotels, which look everywhere the same. It's a shame we did not have time to hear the stories of the house nor visit the town (we hope to do it at next visit).

I liked the fact that I felt like I was staying at grandma's house. The floors creaked, the furniture was antique and the atmosphere was very relaxed. Staying at the Inn was a different experience than staying at a traditional hotel. I loved the contrast and would definitely stay here again.
The microwave could have been a little bigger. My tall coffee cup barely fit.

Full of history. Lovely location in Smithville and shops within walking distance - delicious coffee at Cornerstone Coffee. With your stay you also get a history lesson from the vey knowledgeable Frank. Room was comfortable. Relaxing in the room Frank James (brother of Jesse) used was an unusual perk.
Our room and the bathroom were Clean. Some of the period furniture could use dusting.

The house was beautiful and the volunteers for the museum/house showed obvious love and care for the house, the items within, and the story. As an inn, the beds were comfortable and the rooms were so unique and contributed to a unique experience.
The shower was a bit narrow but as it is part of the original clawfoot bathtub, I understand not much can be done, which is alright!

This historical museum/inn is staffed by volunteers who take their duties very seriously. They were extremely accommodating about our change of plans, met us at the property and got us settled. The property is 1/2 block from a great Mexican restaurant and 2.5 blocks from a very good coffee shop. Our dogs loved the back yard! The historical artifacts were interesting and fun. It was private, quiet, clean and comfortable. We will definitely be staying there again!
The floors creaked a bit but that comes with age!

We liked that the Inn was not only historically interesting, but that it was within walking distance to the main section of town. Naturally, the town sported a BBQ restaurant as well as an ice cream shop, which was not only delicious but quite relaxing. Our journey was one of pilgrimage to Gower, Mo., however, this would naturally be a good spot for not only a spiritual retreat, but for someone traveling to KC on business or pleasure.
While the air-conditioning was sufficient, and we were content, it is an older home and museum. Those expecting the Hilton and not something quaint and quiet, should head to the city where you can have all the bustle you can stand.

Very cool and unique place to stay. Frank and Maria are just about the nicest people you will meet. If you want something different ..stay here. Comfortable bed and nice shower. If you have small children, this probably isn’t the best place to stay. Too many old things for children to possibly ruin! Great experience all around!
No complaints here!

Quite location. Frank, the Manager, was very knowledgeable about the history of Smithville. The room was furnished nicely, was clean and the bed was comfortable. They allowed us to leave our vehicle at the property and they shuttled us to the airport for $20 making it nice that we didn’t have to leave our car in long term parking! Even though our return flight didn’t get in til midnight, they came and picked us up for another $20. Frank and his wife were delightful hosts. There was a nice kitchen there too although we didn’t use it.
It would have been nice to have a night light in the bathroom.
