The bathrooms is immaculate with accessible toiletries and the room was illuminated and commodious.We had the best room in the house and we enjoyed our stay and the breakfast was delicious and good cooking facilities. Illumination has stairways of inspiration with an uplifting message every step you take up the stairs. Singles Couples Family college students will enjoy the illuminating experience. All are welcome to experience the illumination effect. Mr.George is interested in the health of those who is rooming and the room was wonderfully There is healthy messages to enjoy in the room whosoever will avail themselves of it

The Illumination guest house is truly a home away from home. The building is a fine example of a Brooklyn brownstone and has many of the original authentic features. This is not an impersonal, bland boarding house. The place is full of character and even a little quirky, with a relaxing atmosphere. There are two communal kitchens, so it is possible to cater for yourself. There is food provided, as well as all the utensils you would expect. The rooms are clean, bright and comfortable. There is a small terrace outside where you can sit and relax. The staff were lovely. Nothing was too much bother. Internet was great too. Don't expect a slick, modern, boring room. Enjoy the experience of something out of the ordinary.

One small issue that might be a problem for some people is the lack of elevator. This is a former family home, so there's no room for one. The stairs are a little steep and there are quite a few to get to the top floor. It wasn't a problem for me, but you might want to ask for a room on the first floor if you think it might be difficult to navigate a lot of stairs.

Great location near subway and bus stations, neighborhood was quiet. Bed was comfortable and room clean. George was very helpful in helping me find parking and bringing my luggage in. Lots of free vegan food in fridges for guests plus water in room.

The water temp in the shower is a bit hard to control, it will be a good temperature for 5 minutes then suddenly get really hot. The house is a bit old and only vegan food allowed in communal fridges - wasn’t an issue for me but maybe for some could be. Parking is available on the streets but it’s a nightmare to find a spot, took me 40 minutes (not the fault of the property just heads up for anyone with a car). But overall a relaxed place and good for a couple nights

Was surprised with how nice it was for a relatively low price (for NYC). The man who greeted us and gave the tour was very friendly and nice. The room was big and the beds comfortable. The bathrooms are shared but it was not a problem for us as there are multiple bathrooms (not all have showers tho so had to wait for the shower once but who cares). The area is really nice and well-connected to the rest of the city. The fridge was always fully stocked with great vegan products. In general, we really enjoyed our stay and thought it was great value for the money.

It is an old building and as such was not the cleanest, but it did not bother us and we still really enjoyed our stay!

If you are looking for a house with soul, you have come to the right place. We spent one week here with my mom and we will remember it for a long time. We really appreciate George's care, the delicious vegan food, the local coffee, the amazing organic cosmetics he offers his guests, you will really feel at home here soon. We really liked the community way George offers his house, he himself provides his guests with a lot of things for free and freely, but he emphasizes their responsibility towards the common areas and other guests, which is really great. Of course the house has its age and its associated minor ailments, such as creaky floors and doors, shared bathroom, but these are all part of the overall authentic Brooklyn experience :-)

the staff was very welcoming and atmosphere of the place was very warm and they make it feel like home. the staff go out of their way to ensure you have an amazing stay and are always ensuring everything is stocked in the kitchen for your stay. they ensure that you have everything you need and will check in via messaging system through booking.com or if they are there and you run into them. staff is very easy to get a hold of if you have any questions or need anything. I would 100% recommend staying here.

George provided all of our requested breakfast items. It was nice to have an area upstairs to prepare the breakfast that was close to our room. He was flexible with our arrival and departure times which I appreciated. It was nice to stay somewhere that was quiet and I could sleep with the window open. The beds was very comfortable and cozy.

At first I didn't like that the bathroom was on a different floor, but it ended up not being that big of a deal for us.
