The English Inn of Charlottesville is a true diamond in the rough. Tucked away off Emmett Street, it is a quaint and charming gem of a place! The location is strategically convenient - close to UVA, shopping, dining, Church - easy to get in and out of, just steps away from Bodo's Bagels. The staff - front desk, housekeeping, dining room - are quietly pleasant and professional. Exceptional and generous hot and cold breakfast choices, including an array of beverages, fruit - all beautifully presented and quite delicious. The rooms are lovely, clean, comfortable. Excellent Wifi service. Beautiful indoor swimming pool. I was traveling for work, and my stay at the English Inn made the whole week much easier due to all the wonderful amenities and the attentive staff. I will definitely return to the English inn on my next visit to Charlottesville.

There were some people "partying" out in the back parking lot of the hotel property every evening - grilling, drinking, playing music, smoking weed.

The standard breakfast was consistent. And unlike some of their competitors, they stayed with scrambled eggs for our visit. Personally I appreciated that. For example, I don't like cheese omelets, which were never on the menu. During the month of July, I have traveled through several states. For the most part I have been in IHG hotels, primarily Holiday Inn Express. Only one of the HIE locations was fully functional. Old English Inn was the only hotel I would recommend a 2nd stay. Basically, I liked everything at OEI. Your competition has much to learn.

Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel was very clean. NO CARPETING! A lot of hotels are loaded with carpeting, but carpets are just dirt magnets. No carpeting = clean! Loved that. The room was great. Only problem with the room was that the mini fridge didn’t work. The pool was great. The breakfast was better than any other hotel breakfast I’ve had. Even the land scaping was well maintained. They are doing things right at this hotel! Highly recommend this hotel. I would definitely stay again if I’m in the area.

The mini fridge didn’t work in the room, but that was only minor as we had a cooler with and ice is available. The only real drawback was that it is pet friendly so there were dogs barking and being annoying. Maybe the should have only one section of the hotel that is pet friendly.

The facility is charming and close to the hospital. It is also within walking distance of many shops and restaurants so if you're staying multiple days there is plenty to do and see. They provide a lovely breakfast, have a adequate exercise room and have lots of charming common areas to relax in if you don't want to spend all your downtime in your room.

The exercise facility didn't have any wipes for the equipment when I was there, but the front desk staff did provide me with some cleaning solution so I could wipe down the equipment before I used it.

We had a spacious one-bedroom apartment with a kitchenette. Breakfast had a good assortment of hot and cold foods, but as in most hotels in the US, there was nothing except fruit for a gluten-free vegan. Also, they use plastic utensils and disposable bowls, plates, and cups, which creates a tremendous amount of waste every day. Since we had a kitchen in our room, I was able to bring my own bowl and spoon for the gluten-free granola and oat milk I brought with me so as not to create any waste myself. A kitchen staff member kindly gave me ice for my water bottle. The front desk staff was helpful as well.

The spacious apartment could use a refresh. We had to park a distance from our room when we came back after dinner because the lot was very full.

Breakfast is, as always, the best breakfast we've ever gotten at any hotel. Delicious and what a great variety on offer! Beds and linens were super comfortable! Love the fireplace area. Staff is great. Location is perfect. We have always and will continue to use the English Inn for all our C'ville visits. Thanks!

I wish the breakfast was open until 10 on weekends. However, Bodos is right next door! There was construction going on, but disruption was minimal and we look forward to seeing the upgrades on our next stay. Unfortunately, on our last day there was no hot water for a shower. They were right on it for repairs but not until after our check out.

The breakfast was very good and ample. I swam in the pool twice. Because of the summer temperatures - I might have had difficulty transitioning from indoor air conditioning to outside temperatures. I kept fiddling with the thermostat. Also my reservation was booked on booking.com, which is a foreign/international website and they didn't explain that I was prohibited from paying for my stay with cash, secured by a government funded credit/debit card. I have had problems with booking.com before. My apologies.

The breakfast was fresh and had a variety of selections every day. It had the best grits I ever eaten. The two chefs I interacted with were very caring. They like their job and are glad to please us with a great breakfast. The place is spotless! This hotel is situated across from a mall outlet. Great stores, excellent Thai Restaurant a block down.

The only issue was the air-conditioned. It's old, and sometimes it shuts off. That's the only reason for not getting a 10. Also weekends are not cheap. They are 50% more. I don't see the reason for this. The big thisbin this town is the UVA hospital. Downtown was no big deal either.

I travel to Charlottesville regularly to visit my daughter who is a trainee with Charlottesville ballet. In October I discovered the English Inn and now I would not stay anywhere else anymore. The price is great and the Inn has a special flavor (fireplace, tea and cookies, etc.) Breakfast is also a cut above what one normally gets at a hotel and the breakfast staff (especially James, but the lady also), personable without being intrusive. The location is excellent for my needs. It is only a few minutes away from where my daughter and her roommate live.

Love. Love. Love is all o have for this place. We were in town as my mother was flown from Holsten Valley Hospital (Kingsport,TN) to UVA Health. It was a last second booking and they were most accommodating and helpful. The whole staff was wonderful and Mr. Scott Stone was truly the best hotel manager I’ve ever come across in my life. At this time of need I couldn’t be more grateful. It was everything we needed at the time. We even extended our stay. Just truly love this place forever.
