This hotel is located in the old quarter and its position is for sure their strongest part - walkable distance basically everywhere, Circle K is basically on the opposite side of the street and many shops and restaurants are right around the corner. Even though some of the Old Quarter’s streets can get very busy and loud during the night, the room was overall very quiet. The host is super kind and helpful, he upgraded our room for free and included the breakfast for the same price we booked. He’ll help you plan any trips around Vietnam and recommend you where to go and where rather not… The room was very tiny but it was clean and overall pretty nice.

The breakfast was quite poor, fruit was very good but ham, jam, butter etc looked a bit odd and not fresh. It’s a mixture of vietnamese and european breakfast but since this hotel is pretty much touristy, the breakfast could’ve been better… Also as we were eating our breakfast there appeared a weird orange bug on the table which made us feel very uncomfortable and as we sat to a different table, the insect hasn’t left us and appeared a different smaller one. However the room was clean, bathroom was very small but manageable for two people.

What did I like? Where do I start. From my arrival at the airport Jack had sent me a message about arranging transport, but I had already jumped in a taxi, but it was the fact he was checking my movements made me felt that he cared. The following day, he checked on me at breakfast (I'll come back to that) and was wanting to assist with tours and visits. I did book the city tour with him and it was amazing, by the time the tour cam round (Thursday), I had already walked most of the Old Quarter and surrounding areas (Tuesday and Wednesday), but I had missed some stuff and this covered off the check list. Breakfast was a FEAST, normally I would get a "continental" breakfast, but this was a full on Vietnamese breakfast and you could order either scrambled eggs, omlette's or anything at no extra charge. The staff were polite and keen to help. Jack again was amazing and keen to help with everything. I do recommend arranging airport transfers with him, as it was cheaper than jumping in a taxi. The room was perfect for what I needed, out during the day exploring, then a shower (maybe a nap), then out at night. On that note, the location of the Golden Sails is PERFECT. Right in the heart of the Old Quarter, "drinking alley" which I liked to called it was out of the hotel, turn right, right again and you're there. Go further a field down the streets and alley ways offer so much more. The Street Train is a mere 18 minutes walk away, I highly recommend you do that, best to go on a Sunday from 6pm. So overall, I can't recommend The Golden Sails enough, I plan to go back one day, go further afield with my tours, but I will book with Jack and his hotel again. Thank you Jack.

Nothing, well, the coffee cups could have been bigger but I'm from Australia/New Zealand and we like our coffee, but this is the Vietnamese way. The only "slight" issue I had was the is some construction to the right of the hotel and it goes from Monday to Saturday and disturbed me once or twice. But that will obviously be completed soon, and it's out of Jack's control.

Excellent Stay – Highly Recommended! I had a fantastic experience at this hotel. The location was perfect, close to everything I needed and ideal for exploring the area. The facilities were top-notch, and my room was clean, comfortable, and beautifully maintained – everything was just right. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, always ready to assist with anything I needed. A special thank you to Mr. Jackson, who helped me organize several amazing excursions during my stay. Each trip was well-planned and truly memorable. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area!

Everything Perfect

The location is perfect you are in the middle of the night life, beer street and only 10mins from the centre of town. Yet mainly very quite. The hotel manager, Mr. Jack Son can not do enough to help and assist you with advice re where to visit and arranging tours ect. Breakfast is sufficient. We were on the 6th floor but has an elevator. The room is adequate with excellent air-conditioning, WiFi and a kinda Netflix on the tv. Super hot water in a powerful shower Confortable bed. We booked two nights checking in at 2am where Mr Jack son was waiting for us. Slightly out dated hotel but so many positives , we booked two nights but extended to five, seems excellent value for money. I can highly recomend this hotel and the service Mr Jack Son and his staff provide.

There was nothing to dislike.

The location is excellent right next to the night market, it’s with several cafés, shops and restaurants nearby. Friendly staff and affordable hotel. The owner who also manages tours is really friendly, though can be slightly persuasive to sell tours/packages. But overall really enjoyed my stay there and definitely would recommend it.

The hotel is nice but there are not many facilities on offer. There’s is a food menu in the room but you can’t order room service. Laundry is offered but you need to take laundry to reception (there were no laundry bags as far as I remember ). However for the price, it is still worth the stay.

The hotel is ideally located in the heart of the Old Quarter, within walking distance of popular attractions like the weekend night market, Beer Street, Train Street, and various local landmarks. The location made it easy to explore the city on foot. The staff were warm, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel itself was clean and well-maintained, which made for a pleasant experience.

Needed to walk with our luggage to the hotel as the road is closed over weekends, but it wasn’t far. The room was on the smaller side and didn’t have a mirror in the bedroom, but it was still comfortable, especially since we were out from early morning and only returned late at night. There was some construction happening next door, but it wasn’t a major issue as we didn’t spend much time in the room during the day. Personally, I didn’t enjoy the breakfast provided—it wasn’t to my taste—but there is the option to order from the menu at an additional charge, which is a nice alternative.

The location was ideal, making it easy to explore the city on foot. The breakfast exceeded my expectations, offering a variety of fresh options that set me up well for the day. The staff were particularly helpful, always ready with local tips and quick to assist with any requests. While the rooms were basic, they were clean and comfortable, providing good value for the price. Overall, a great choice for budget-conscious travelers looking for a convenient and comfortable stay.

Directly next to the hotel there is a construction site which is extremely noisy throughout the day (from the early hours of the morning till night). The hower curtains need to be replaced as they have mould.

Perfect location for exploring the bustle of the Old Quarter. Quiet at night, friendly staff, and decent breakfast. Bottled water provided in room. Jack Son helpfully offered to organise a taxi and tours before arrival - I booked two great tours the day before they happened at reception for a reasonable price, and luckily some cool people did the same! Spent my last day in Hanoi and the staff kindly let me use the laundry service and store my bag until evening despite checking out at 12:00. Was warned by staff about some light construction work next door which started around 7:30-8:00. Not an issue if an early riser like the rest of Hanoi! Also, the window in my room faced an internal skylight. Not really an issue but not shown on pictures.

Fantastic location - everything is around you, great place to be in the heart the old quarter. The staff were exceptional and met the needs as best as they can. Everyone working here is super hospitable and I enjoyed it so much I came back for a second time after our Hà Long Bay tour.

Whilst it's true there's some construction ongoing, the construction finishes much before 8pm every night we stayed here and it started at 8am. An opportunity to make the most out of the city and getting breakfast. There's drilling and banging which take place during the hours where guests are most likely exploring Hanoi and surrounding areas. It's tough to see such a wonderful business suffering because of something out of their control. Future bookers, please don't be put off by this.

The best thing of the accommodation was the staff. Very attentive and tried to provide a personalized service. Very friendly. The location was quite central and reasonable room sizes. Price seemed reasonable for such a large city in Vietnam to us.

Probably not a 5-star hotel and others felt they were a little misleading because of this. But overall for the price, we felt it was reasonable !
