We chose Lotus Field Homestay to be our base in Ninh Binh because we really liked the aesthetic of it and because of its location to the main sights we wanted to experience, Hang Mua and Trang An. Lotus Field Homestay is quaint, charming and peaceful. The views across the wetlands to the surrounding limestone karsts are breathtaking. In fact, I think it’s the open space around it and its views that make this homestay so special, as well as the warm hospitality of the team who made us feel like we were “home”. The cabins are spacious and clean with loads of natural light. We were in cabin 7, the very last one. It had the longest walk from the main reception/dining area, but that’s meant it felt more “remote” and had the most incredible views 24/7 - I loved sunrise in particular. We slept very comfortably. The AC was incredible and we also had a fan, which we would use at night when we sat on the balcony. The minibar was stocked with beer, soft drinks and water. There was also a kettle as well as tea and coffee in the room. The panoramic view from the bathroom was incredible. The water pressure was great and the water could get really hot. All in all a very comfortable experience. We ate most of meals at Lotus Field. Primarily because there was a great variety and because it was really delicious home cooked food - generous portions too. The drinks menu was good, but I also able to look in the fridge and see what else they had available. Sitting on the deck was a great place to unwind, take in the surrounding views or chat with other travellers. There were mega fans to keep you cool if you wanted to stay there a little longer. There were a number of bicycles (including ones with kid seats and also children’s bicycles) as well as scooters onsite. They were all well maintained and comfy. We used the bicycles everyday during our stay to explore key sites and the surrounding area.

If there is one thing you do when you book this place, make sure it's booking another night! To be secluded away after all of the chaos of the city was so relaxing. The scenery was unreal and right off of your doorstep. Enjoy the pool, or even some pool by the pool for ultimate relaxation. If you are lucky like we were, the remote nature of this homestay means you will see some very cool wildlife e.g. all kinds of butterflies, lizards, birds, fish, frogs, ducks, geese, bats, even fireflies!!!! Outstanding for a nature nerd like me. Meals were flavourful and very casual which we loved. Come up to the restaurant to chat and the staff will make anything they can happen for you. Breakfast we recommend the Pho, and my partner said this was the best vietnamese drip coffee he has had on the trip. We booked a day tour with them which was reasonably priced and meant we didn't have to organise anything. If you are comfortable riding motorbikes they have them available for you to use. The roads around Ninh Binh were a lot busier than I was expecting. Our only regret was not having more time here to relax at the homestay, and our experience was only as amazing as it was because of the staff. Thank you so much! His kindness and attentiveness make all the difference in making guests feel not just welcome, but truly cared for. From offering local tips to ensuring all our needs were met with efficiency and warmth, Lũy’s genuine hospitality made our stay extra special. It’s rare to come across someone who is not only professional but also as kind-hearted and approachable as he is. Being situated in the heart of nature, the hotel does come with its share of bugs, which is all part of the wilderness charm. As someone who's not quite accustomed to camping, it took me a little time to adjust, but it’s definitely part of the experience. If you’re open to embracing the outdoors, it’s a small price to pay for the beautiful surroundings.

Lotus Field Homestay surpassed our expectations, the location although a bit of the beaten track, is incredibly worth the drive and is stunning! Peaceful, remote, rural and quiet. Unfortunately we didn't catch the name of the guy who greeted us and looked after us whilst on our stay but he was amazing, helpful from the get go, friendly and incredibly hard-working and accommodating. The room itself is gorgeous, incredibly spacious, clean, comfortable, with our own deck with hammock and chair, and luxurious bathroom. The accommodation also has an onsite restaurant of which the food was really good.

Lotus Field Homestay is beautifully located in a quiet valley-just as pictured. If you want a break from the vehicle honking and prefer hearing just frogs and crickets, then this is for you. Be prepared for a 10-15 minute bike ride up the dirt road (or Grab or scooter) but I found the road (which has two options) to be a highlight and one of the most scenic areas in Ninh Binh. I enjoyed randomly biking small routes in the valley and meeting local people. The homestay, with separate bungalows, is run by family members who provide a warm welcome and great meals. We enjoyed sitting on our deck and watching the valley. You can bike to the Trang An boat tour launch and the Hang Mua viewpoint. And you can bike to all the restaurants you would need.

The location is incredible - we cycled around the whole area for 2 days and honestly only came across one other homestay with a comparable location. The views are stunning from every angle - as we drove in we felt like we were in a dream landscape - karst mountains rising from green rice fields with ponds and waterways all around, all accessed by narrow dirt tracks perfect for cycling on. The town is just a 10-minute bicycle ride away and is full of shops, bars, cafes, low-key restaurants, but not too touristic nor over-commercialized - you see lots of authentic Vietnamese life going on inc. farmers working the rice fields. The cabins are all detached so there's no 'neighbour' noise to disturb you. We had cabin #1 which fronts onto the small lake that the homestay is located on. The room was spacious with 2 double beds with mosquito netting. Large windows maximise the views, even from the bathroom (which has a shower over the bath). Excellent wifi. Our main hosts, brothers Zui and Tri, were very friendly and had good English and were always eager to help. Free bicycle hire and moped hire for 150k dong per day - the area is a cyclist's dream - the views and the tranquility! We used 'Grab' cabs on the app (short wait times and very reasonable cost) to get to places that were too far for us to cycle to - 10 mins to the An Trang Boat Cruise (wow! Choose route #3), Bich Dong Pagoda, Hang Múa Viewpoint/Sleeping Dragon Mountain - all nearby.

It's hard to say there were things we didn't like because this place is so good, but there are some things to be aware of: The homestay is situated in a natural setting - at all times, especially at night, there is the sound of domestic animals (especially barking dogs and crowing roosters) and wildlife - the noise from the small lake of frogs/toads at night might be annoying to some, so maybe bring earplugs! We had a couple of meals at the homestay but found that the food in the town was better and more reasonably priced. We stayed in late March and the cabin was a little cold at night - bring warm pjs. If you're fussy about your bed, the mattresses may be too soft for some. However, this is trivia compared to the experience you will have here - we didn't want to leave :-)

We cannot wait to come back here - the view from the bungalow is absolutely incredible and the two lads that run the front desk have great banter. Our chats with the lads has added an extra element to our experience and made it so much more memorable. The communication before our arrival was clear and helpful, always wanting to make sure that we were set up. Big shout out to the uncle who is the chef; we were in heaven with his incredible food (especially the lemongrass chilli chicken - wow). The location is perfect for a peaceful getaway, and it was easy to rent a bicycle or bike to go exploring. We enjoyed the walk into town, even if we were sweating within 2 minutes, as this was what we were looking for. Our bungalow had no issues, the view from the bath stole the show and we were thankful for the softer mattresses. Perfect place to unwind after a few days in Hanoi, and we were sad to not be able to stay longer. We will certainly be back again! Cheers!

Lovely and quiet atmosphere at the homestay, staff were friendly and welcoming despite the language barrier. We were able to explore the area using the free bicycles at the homestay. The homestay was not that far from the tourist attractions, a short Grab ride to Trang An boat ride and Hoa Lu. Breakfast was good, loved the pineapple pancake and pho. Beautiful surroundings, just what we needed after a few noisy days in the city.

Quite a bumpy gravel road to the homestay, but we didn't mind it much. The Grab drivers did though. Would be a tricky commute during the rainy season.

Super location, nice and helpful staff (the both brothers Dyu & Dai (I hopefully wrote the name right 🤔) were just perfect hosts, always nice and helpful thanks guys again!), quite place surrounding by the most beautiful landscapes in Ninh Binh. The chef is a very good cook, we enjoyed his meals a lot (especially the fresh fish 👌). The cleaning woman is very nice and she came every day to clean our bungalow. We had amazing four days there and I couldn't recommend them enough!

Location was amazing! Felt secluded and the views were incredible. Loved the hammock outside the room. Room was large and comfy and had great views. The staff was amazing, they went above and beyond for us during our stay. Food at the restaurant was great and super convenient. Laundry, motorbike and pedal bike rental was very convenient as well.

Some of the bungalows are right next to the restaurant/reception and it can be noisy at times. The homestay is also located a bit out of town and on a bumpy road. We had a few Grab drivers make us a walk some of the way due to the road condition so just be aware of that.
