Awesome location in a quiet neighbourhood, a short walk from King Street and Newtown offerings and the Enmore Theatre. Easy to Find from Erskineville train station. Comfy beds and very clean if slightly dated facilities. Separate secure entrance for guests who were staying, I never once felt unsafe as a solo female traveller. Great food in the pub.

This isn't really a negative, just something to be totally aware of - you are staying above a pub so there will be noise until late at night but it was never so noisy that you felt you couldn't sleep. The fire doors to the rooms can be pretty jarring if guests allow them to slam shut but neither of these issues should deter you from staying as the location more than makes up for it.

Erskineville has achieved a great village feel, compared with busy nearby Newtown. it’s two stops on the train from Central Station in Sydney. the Erko is friendly and authentic. the room was basic, but value for money.

replace the scungy bathtubs in the shared amenities. put a blind over the window in the room,(there’s one over the glass balcony door). put the tea/coffee/sugar sachets in a container, not a chipped cup.

The naming of each room was based on local dogs, which was neat. The location was great. We learned during our stay that the hotel is a walk away from many interesting bars. Short walk away from the train station to get to downtown Sydney.

There were no elevators on the property, so we needed to lift bags up the staircase. Was a bit hot, especially at night, as there was no air conditioning in the room. Kept the windows open, but that allowed the sound to travel from the bar downstairs, which made it more difficult to sleep for those who are light sleepers. Would have been great to have a fan..

Lovely friendly staff, who were very chatty and helpful despite the bar being very busy. It was a Saturday night after all and I can see why it’s a very popular venue. We enjoyed the good food on offer and an excellent range of beers in the bar which had a really fun and happy atmosphere. A very convenient location for the Enmore Theatre, serviced by good public transport links. It’s also a very beautiful building.

A little bit noisy at the very end of the night (but not for too long) and our room didn’t have a blind on the main window which we didn’t notice until too late for anyone to do anything about, so we were awoken by the sun earlier than we would have liked, but I’m being picky here. We mentioned this on check out and the staff member we spoke to was surprised to hear it and hoped it hadn’t spoiled our stay.

The Erko is one of the best pubs in Sydney. The accommodation was great. The room was simple cozy but not cramped, and perfect for a solo traveller. The staff were extraordinarily friendly and even offered to carry my bike up into my room. Outside the pub a large rainbow+trans flag was displayed proudly which sets a beautiful tone for the kind of welcoming space you're entering. Shared facilities were good and clean, though not amazing. The presence of bath tubs was a nice surprise! Food at the pub was great with a wide selection of beers on tap. I thought they were joking when they said there was room service, but there was no joke! The Erko is in an amazing location, one of the best suburbs of Sydney, and perfectly located for travelling cyclists such as myself, with close connections to major cycling routes, trains and a short 20-30min ride to the airport.

If you're a bigot or hate people having a good time, you might be triggered.

Location was perfect for us as our daughter lives nearby - and we love the Erskineville and Newtown area. This room was much quieter than the one we stayed in last time, Max and Blue - the noise from air conditioning fans behind the walls of Max and Blue really disturbed our sleep last time.

One of the window blinds in our room was broken

the shared bathrooms have been renovated and they look great. The room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. the location in quieter Erskineville with close access to noisier Newtown, where I was meeting friends and watching theatre, is excellent. the staff were friendly, happy and helpful.

it was all very good.

Very friendly greeting and easy checkin process. The room was clean and spacious.

Some of the furniture looked a bit tired and damaged. The main critique was that despite the ceiling fans and small mobile cooling unit the room was very stuffy and hot which made for an uncomfortable nights sleep.

The staff were fantastic. Very helpful, even offering to Cary one of my bags up the stairs. The room was adequate for what I needed. Although it was a shared bathroom, it was clean .

Getting to the hotel by train with two suitcases was a bit of a mission. Got a taxi to the airport which was more convenient, but considerably more expensive. Perhaps a ride share service would have been worthwhile in hindsight.

Great little pub hotel with heaps of character, we enjoyed our short stay here as a base for a quick look around central Sydney after a couple of nights out west staying with a friend. The immediate area around the pub we loved too, just wish we had longer to explore. Friendly staff, great pub, good shared facilities. We would love to come back and stay a bit longer :)
