Excellent location with very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable, clean and well equipped room (Superior Queen). Good continental breakfast with hot food options. Well maintained outdoor spaces and lots of parking.

View from our room was the back of a run down rental property. Lots of garbage on the ground and a terrible view. While it was pretty quiet most nights, one night someone was very loudly repairing a door until 11:00 PM. Realize the hotel has little control over their neighbours, but it’s a negative reflection on an otherwise fantastic hotel. Strongly advise requesting a room only in the main hotel building that is not near that rental property.

The hotel is in a good location on a quiet road about 15 minutes brisk walk to the harbour front. Beds were comfortable and we enjoyed the breakfast included. It was good to have a coffee machine provided and fresh water also was available in the hotel lobby.

The room was quite small and the nightly rate was a lot compared to other accommodation we had booked during our stay in Canada (especially after taxes are added). The hotel rooms overlook nearby residential properties (but were well screened, so privacy was not an issue).

Good location with parking. Clean and comfortable beds. Laundry facilities were great.

The bathroom set up was awkward. You have to reach across the toilet to dispense soap from the built in container to wash your hands. Built in conditioner bottle in the shower was empty when I tried to use it the first day…frustrating. Refilled after I let the desk know. Had to ask for refills of tea selection in lobby. Sausages were empty both mornings I went for breakfast, once replenished they were lukewarm. Noisy guests in the halls. Need way more hooks in the bathroom for towels etc.

The location of this hotel is within the downtown area. Close to restaurants, shopping, etc. Easy to find and walking distance to all of downtown. The hotel provides a breakfast that includes an excellent variety. Two hot items (frittata both days plus sausage on one day and hashbrown the other). Variety of bread, bagels, muffins, cereals, fruit along with a good variety of spreads (jams, p-butter, cream cheese) and juices. This is an updated hotel/motel with outside direct access for main level as well as central corridor that brings you to front desk, breakfast area, gym, etc. There is also an ice machine and vending machine. The room has a Keurig machine and supplied Kirkland breakfast blend coffee. Also a mini fridge (ours froze some items).

There wasn't much that we didn't like about this place. We would stay again.

Upon our first check in, the girl at the desk was a bit rude, letting me know that the room wouldn't be ready for at least an hour. When I returned,the young fellow at the desk was much more polite and quickly got me to the my room. Breakfast was absolutely delicious. Especially enjoyed being able to take an apple as a snack for later.

The girls poor attitude was the only disappointing thing that's ever happened to me in all the times I've stayed at the Pownal.

Wow, I honestly loved this hotel. It's not the fanciest and doesn't have everything, but it makes up for that with modern touches and great service! Everyone we spoke with at reception was super friendly and helpful. The room included free parking and free breakfast (on a 12 day road trip and staying at 6 hotels, this is the only hotel that offered free breakfast) and the breakfast was good with a lot of choices. They host a welcome reception and offer each guest a free drink in the evening, and the selection is plentiful, plus it's a nice opportunity to meet other people. The room was spacious, modern and clean, with great air-conditioning, comfy beds & pillows, and soo many plugs! It's about a 10-15 minute to the main area of town, so far enough that the area was quiet. Oh and because we stayed a certain amount of nights, they also gave us a voucher to use at a local restaurant! Did I mention I loved this hotel?

The hotel was pretty quiet, but could hear other people walking past and tvs in other rooms. The rooms on the second floor balcony area were more private, but if you need an elevator these are not the rooms for you.

It was an easy walk to shops and the waterfront.

I would have liked more counter space in the bathroom. Part of the counter was over the toilet and I was afraid that any items placed on that part of the counter might fall into the toilet. I just had to be mindful of that.

An amazing breakfast, and a wonderful happy hour which enabled us to meet some other guests . The bed was fantastic.

The toilet was awfully close to the wall, which would create a slight problem for some people. I’m sure it is not fixable unless there were Reno’s done . There was a slight smell of old stale cigarettes .

Room facilities were good, everything you need in there, coffee machine, fridge, hairdryer, iron. Breakfast was a buffet with hot and cold food available. There was a complimentary beer or wine on weekdays between 5 and 6 pm, nice touch. All in all a great place to stay.

Spacious rooms, good walking distance to everything you need, and nice staff. They provided us with a $10 gift card since we didn't have our room cleaned but we didn't know where we can use it at since we were already leaving.

The breakfast option was quite limited and repeated from the 2 mornings when we had breakfast but it was not really a big deal.
