Casona del Calegio did not only meet, but completely exceeded our expectations in our first ever trip to Cartagena! I don't think I have ever stayed in such a welcoming, safe, clean, well-designed and beautiful hotel. The staff is incredibly caring - from the welcoming cocktails, to opening the front door at the entrance, asking if you need anything more during the day - we couldn't ask for more. We LOVED the free breakfast - it's not a buffet, but an à-la-carte menu where we had the most amazing Marayuca smoothie, cappucchino, fruits, mini pastries, granola with yogourt AND a another meal of our choosing (Colombian arepa, Eggs benedict, omelets, pancakes, waffles) - This was sooo worth it! We selected the superiod double room I believe and again it exceeded our expectations! The room was pretty big, the bathroom as well, and there was a lot of space of putting away clothes and luggage. When I come back to Cartagena, I will undoubtly stay there again!

This location is perfect! Right in the middle of town and easy to get to everything. The rooms are fantastic! I don’t even think the photos do it justice. Some of the rooms have surprise balconies that are amazing. One of ours (we actually stayed in two rooms while we were there and love them both) had a wraparound balcony that we did not expect. The rooftop pool has a pretty nice view. It is not very big but for what you want it is nice and they will bring drinks up to you. The staff is very nice and they have security at the front, which makes you feel safe, considering the streets around are full of people approaching you. The food in the restaurant and the included breakfast is actually very good. For the money, it is a wonderful value and I would definitely stay here again!

Do not get a massage. It was the worst one of our life! Do not order the eggs Benedict. We both got sick from it on our last day. Probably a fluke, but we both ordered the same thing and got sick at the same time so it was very obvious what it was from.  I think the downstairs is supposed to have a fountain or a pool from the photos, but there was no water while we were there which was odd. 

Overall good. Our room was very spacious and beautiful, huge bathroom, coffee and tea machine. Breakfast a la carte, not too many options but delicious. We could choose any drink from the menu as a welcome drink. Location right in the middle of everything. Staff always friendly. The hotel is beautiful with lots of green and well decorated.

It gets really loud at night, like if you were right in the middle of the street and it goes on all night long. Service can be a bit slow and misunderstanding, but I guess its a Colombian thing as we experienced it in all the hotels we have been there.

- Good comprehensive breakfast (e.g. a la carte breakfast plus hot and cold drinks; toast with tropical jams; cold cuts and cheese, etc.) - safe entry with staff opening the door or keeping it locked in a touristy area - room had many luxuries like blackout curtains and VERY comfy sheets; very high tech room - refreshing pool and comfy loungers with a rooftop view of the city - welcome cocktails // drinks and bag service from the very helpful staff

- breakfast can be slow as it's made to order so if you have a morning tour account for 45 mins to 1 hour at the very least

I can’t say enough good things about this boutique hotel — it absolutely exceeded my expectations. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the warm and attentive service. Every staff member went out of their way to make sure I felt welcomed and cared for throughout my stay. The hotel itself is stunning — beautifully designed with so much character, charm, and attention to detail. My room was spotless, cozy, and had everything I needed to relax after exploring the city. And the location? Perfect. Right in the heart of Cartagena, within walking distance of all the best restaurants, shops, and historic sites. I truly couldn’t have asked for a better home base.

The location was very convenient for what we needed it for as well as easy access to everywhere else in the city. The establishment was beautiful and our rooms were just like the pictures! Very clean and the housekeeping made sure to always have our rooms clean and well stocked. The service is immaculate from the moment you walk in the door You are greeted with smiles and the best service! The complimentary breakfast is immaculate and you are able to have it at the dining area or in your rooms or all the patios! There's service available to you as well what you are on the rooftop pool and there are clean and fluffy towels available to you as well at the pool area. I will recommend this place to everyone because I loved everything about this hotel and I will be back!

A Truly Unforgettable Stay – The Best Hotel Experience I’ve Ever Had This has by far been the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in. From the moment we booked, the service was exceptional. Sheikh, who reached out to us prior to our arrival, was incredibly approachable and full of knowledge about Cartagena. He offered amazing recommendations and truly made us feel welcome. We were celebrating our honeymoon, and he went above and beyond to help me arrange a surprise for my wife — flowers beautifully placed along the entryway, candles leading to the bed, and a romantic setup with chocolates that left us speechless. It was thoughtful and absolutely memorable. The hotel staff were outstanding — kind, attentive, and always one step ahead. Our room was cleaned more than once daily, and we were constantly provided with complimentary snacks, fresh fruits, and bottled water. It felt like true luxury. The hotel itself is stunning — aesthetically pleasing, with a boutique vibe that feels elegant and classy. Every detail in the decor added to the experience. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Cartagena..

One note of caution: it can get loud at night due to the nature of the city, which is vibrant and full of life. Cartagena is a party city that doesn’t sleep — something to keep in mind depending on your preferences, though the hotel itself does everything right

Breakfast was fresh made a la carte with excellent options to start your day. Not the average breakfast buffet.

I would love more vegetables

Beautiful and stylish builing in the Old Town. Amazing decor and really nice size rooms with comfortable beds. Out of the three hotels we stayed at during our travel to Colombia, Casona del Colegio was definitely the best. It was also the only hotel where the staff spoke English which was important to us given that we don't speak Spanish. Everyone we met at the hotel was nice, friendly and super professional. I'd especially like to call out the reception/front desk staff for their hospitality and help. There's also a small pool area upstairs which offered a good view of the city and allowed us to relax during the hottest moments of the day. The beds are big and comfortable and I loved the size of the bathroom. We loved our stay at Casona del Colegio and felt very well taken care of and we would definitely recommend the hotel to others.

We got a very dark room (# 8) which didn't have windows facing the street (only to a small internal courtyard) which meant that we didn't get any daylight. I guess it was just a matter of us arriving quite late to the property, but our friends' room had nice daylight. So I wont hold it against the hotel, we just weren't that lucky. Breakfast: you get to order from a menu of select items which works for some better than others. The food was great quality and well cooked although I personally would have liked more options to choose from. You can see some wear and tear. Understandable given it is a historic property but small paint jobs and refreshing would take care of that. But a really stunning hotel with amazing decor and good staff.

We stayed 3 days at the hotel and came back after our trip to Baru because we liked it that much. We traveled with a baby and everyone was super welcoming and nice. The rooms are spacious and decorated with much care. The location is also perfect since you can do everything by walk. The area is super safe to walk even in the evening after a restaurant. We can recommend this place to everyone and will definitely come back when visiting Cartagena again. Thanks a lot to the staff that made our stay to one of the best experiences in our holiday!
