The hotel is in a lovely location with large, well kept grounds and in a quiet, affluent suburb of Sheffield but with easy access to the city and local eateries. The staff are friendly, hard working and very helpful and do a great job in trying to make the stay is as enjoyable as possible

The hotel is a bit tired in parts. The rooms could do with a bit of a makeover. For example, ours had a wonky window handle and, despite being a pretty decent size, had only one chair and somewhat limited lighting. In addition, although breakfast was fairly comprehensive, various items ran out (but were replenished by the staff as quickly as they could) and some of the breakfast utilities broke down eg one of the tea / coffee machines was offline. This feels more like under investment from Mercure as opposed to any staff neglect. Given Kenwood Hall is probably selling itself as a more premium destination, I think this needs addressing

We stayed for the first time and had such a lovely experience especially with the receptionist Lisa, who did give me a card for a review because she then would get some bonus at work and I didn’t do it because I lost the card!! My son is 4 and full of beans! I mean, literally rampaged around the facilities like a full whirlwind, playing with the piano in reception and the pool table entertained him for hours and they just, the staff I mean, were incredibly kind and patient especially when I was not!!! Fab and also, bonus that it’s a fav hotel for the snooker, which my partnered loved.

Nothing really, I mean it is a little dated in areas but the breakfast was amazing and we had two very large double beds.

Be ready for a unique British experience if you decide to stay in this hotel. Things just work randomly, relying on magic. Situated in an excellent location in Sheffield, Nether Edge, you have at a walking distance restaurants, cafes, a grocery shop, charity shops, parks, and nature. The service is a bit disorganized. When I asked for extra toilette paper, the staff told me to walk to the reception to get it. It involves considerable walk across many confusing corridors, different floors, and an effort. I fetched it, but still feel a bit resentful. Rooms are a bit old (leaking baths, broken chairs, etc), which perhaps adds to the general atmosphere that the hotel looks a bit like a castle. If you are into all things magic, then you certainly would enjoy this hotel. I plan to return there next time, as despite its wear, the hotel still stands, surrounded by its own park, including the lake. You get used to it eventually and will definitely remember this experience.

Food was a bit random. On good days you get an excellent quality of interesting dishes, but on bad days you might get your nachos cold, with some resemblance of melted cheese on top. They should definitely expand their room service menu to include the unique traditional dishes of England, such as English breakfast, curry, and a roast. While not being vegan or vegetarian, I would recommend this hotel to include more dishes for people who are vegan.

Lovely welcome and Steph on reception was fab. Friendly, genuine and efficient and welcomed me by name (I was last check in so easy on this occasion - but lovely touch). She offered the Spa and also had upgraded me without any request. That doesn't affect the review I should say now. It is genuinely good because so was the hotel. Having stayed at several other hotels in Sheffield recently and almost given up on my home town this shows that good, pleasant service can be achieved! Bar staff - didn't get their names - also both friendly and efficient. Overall best Hotel stay in Sheffield this year (from 10 previous) Can't believe haven't tried before!

Room was lovely and thanks Courtney for looking after things. Just a bit on the warm side. Had thermostat set as low as it would go but didn't feel like it was 100% working. Not a complaint - just if anything could have made it better then this would be it!

Dinner good, ate both evenings in bar restaurant. Some issues with heating and bathroom fan in room, Lisa got it all quickly sorted. Lisa was very helpful and friendly, the staff are so good a this hotel. Very friendly to dogs. Nice laid back attitude. Second night of stay was very peaceful, best sleep I've had in ages. Room by the lake, stayed many times before, once had a lovely view, but ....

Well, there used to be a lovely view; not keen on the new fencing outside lake rooms, which really spoils the view. First night noise from a prom and kids by the lake a bit noisy. Snooker fans at the hotel, one kept putting TV until 3 a.m. Told reception and they sorted it. Wanted to watch the news when having dinner as I was on my own, most of the bar eating area was at that point single people, mostly females. TV channel was changed to snooker, a policy in the evening, no one was watching it, annoying!

The room had plenty of space and was clean. The bed was very comfortable. A kettle with coffee, tea and biscuits were provided. The staff were very helpful and cheerful. Breakfast was very good. A wide variety of breads, bagels, pancakes, pastries, full English, a variety of cereals and jars of tasty dried fruits and nuts. Yoghurt, bowls of fruit and compote, drinks, fresh fruit, some gluten free options.

There were areas of the room that needed some TLC. Some frayed carpet, a window that didn't close, broken tile in the bathroom and a bit of rust on the corner of the bath but other than that the room was lovely. There was a noise in the background which I think was the heating system and also when water was used in the room next door I could hear the cistern refill which seemed quite loud.

This hotel is a popular venue and we begin to realise that because of that you may find you share your stay with some very well attended event or other. That being said it has not created any major problems in parking, undue noise etc. The staff are excellent. The basic rooms are large and clean. The breakfast is good. Some quirky things ..... the hot water tap in our room either ran or it didn't - which was puzzling, especially as the shower did not suffer from that problem...... All in all I clearly recommend the hotel, otherwise I would not have returned.

The staff are really helpful and friendly and most know what they are doing. The hotel is in a lovely location and the grounds are stunning, the landscaping at the lake is beautiful. The hotel staff response to pets is great, they were so welcoming to my little dog; I like this best about the hotel.

Bar staff can sometimes be inexperienced and make a lot of mistakes. They need better training, there is too big a turnover. The hotel is looking tired and rooms and bath rooms need updating. The beautiful grounds are let down by lack of maintenance, grass needed cutting on far field and dog poo bin was overflowing. Lads in the bushes late at night. Lots of litter that is not picked up daily. The lake is the central feature but it's not easy to walk around it as the paving is a real uneven mess and needs replacing.

The staff were excellent in every respect, particularly Elise at reception, who helped sort out our breakfast needs. The location was superb and there was a very nice view out of our room. Breakfast was satisfying and I was well catered for as a coeliac. Staff were very attentive and efficient in this area.

There was an interconnecting door between our room 236 and the room next door, which was not soundproof. We could hear the conversation and drinks being made. Luckily, our neighbours were considerate, but unless this issue was addressed, we would be wary about being in this room again. Lighting in the room was TOTALLY inadequate.

For the price we paid, the hotel and facilities exceeded our expectations. The room was very comfortable and we had an excellent breakfast (for which we paid extra). Staff were friendly and helpful. Having the spa and swimming pool attached made for a lovely visit. Would definitely consider staying again.

The noise of a wedding party in the main part of the hotel went on until the early hours but as we were so tired ourselves it wasn't such a disturbance as it might normally have been. Our room faced the dance floor so lots of music and shouting but we did manage to sleep through it.
