We were very impressed with this hotel. The staff were very friendly at reception and the bar staff were great fun. We were upgraded to a room with a canal view, the room was fabulous and very clean. The hotel itself is in an excellent location. There are a number of tram stops outside within couple of minutes walk and the 397 bus to the airport goes from a stop that's less than a 5 minute walk. The hotel is very central and close to a buzzing nightlife. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants close by. It's very easy to get to the other busy spots in the city, for example Dame Square or Rembrandt square by either walking or tram. Would highly recommend this hotel and if I ever get to go back to Amsterdam this is where I'll be staying.

Breakfast at the restaurant was ideal: tasty, fresh, and a varied food to suit every taste. The place had a wonderful, cozy atmosphere with great music that put us in a positive mood for the whole day. However, the only downside was the cost; the amount we ate felt too expensive for the price.

It would be great if children could receive discounts at the restaurants, especially for their birthdays or on the holidays

I had an amazing stay at this hotel during my vacation and highly recommend it! The location is perfect – it’s close to everything. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, and I was pleasantly surprised when they offered me a complimentary room upgrade at check-in. The room itself was super comfortable, and the bed was one of the best I’ve ever slept in. I felt completely relaxed and at home. Overall, this hotel offers incredible value for money, and I can’t wait to return on my next trip!

Very grand hotel with great facilities and friendly staff in a great location. The room was spacious and had everything we needed. We had read some reviews that said it was a noisy location but we enjoyed the hustle and bustle of a clean and tidy location in the heart of Amsterdam. The noise certainly didn’t keep us awake. The staff were all extremely friendly and attentive too.

The bedrooms were excellent, we had an executive room and large and excellent decorated. Very classy and cool lighting system with his and hers sinks. The bar was excellent and great cocktails. Restaurant was full and was a good sign. The location was excellent too, will be back again! The staff were cool and polite. Excellent locational price.

Will.be back once the scaffolding has come down as its a beautiful building from the outside.

Great location close to trams, shops, bars and eateries. Beds very comfortable. Liked the room with a balcony.

Room was opposite the canal and a park which was a bit noisy. Restaurant was quite expensive.

The iconic breakfast room is the main reason we have stayed at the American Hotel 4 times in the last year. And for us the location of the hotel is perfect.

On our last and most recent trip we were given Room 130 which was incredibly dark (a very small window in the washing area). No daylight whatsoever in the main bedroom. Very disappointing for a 5 night stay.

We loved the location of the hotel and the staff on reception and concierge desk were excellent.

The design of the room was very odd with two sinks in the main bedroom instead of in the bathroom. This was not mentioned in the particulars of the type of room nor was it in any of the photos. We have stayed in many different hotels around the world and have never experienced this before! Apart from the obvious privacy issue, the lighting over the sinks was in the wrong place so it was impossible to see properly for shaving or applying makeup and we ended up using the tiny sink in the bathroom which did have a well lit mirror above it. Very bad design. I think you should mention this issue to all guests before they book.
