A Truly Magical Stay My stay at Valverde Palácio de Seteais was absolutely amazing. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere, elegance, and charm of the palace made it feel like a step back in time — in the best way possible. The setting is breathtaking, with stunning views and beautifully preserved architecture. What truly made the experience unforgettable was the exceptional staff. Every member of the team was warm, welcoming, and went above and beyond to make me feel at home. Their attention to detail and genuine hospitality added a personal touch that made all the difference. It was my second time staying here and I can’t recommend this place enough — it’s a perfect blend of history, luxury, and heartfelt service.

The hotel itself is magical! It was nested in a beautiful garden full of trees and birds. The pool is beautiful and heated, perfect for a dip if it gets too hot.

The staff were not the friendliest. At breakfast, we were surprised that we were not allowed to order any bottles of water. I had to take my medicine which I needed to dissolve in a bottle of water, and even after I explained multiple times, they were very adamant on only giving me a cup of water. Not sure what their issue is with the bottles of water, maybe they wanted us to purchase the bottles from the room service? The hotel is at the upper price bracket, so water bottles shouldn't be a point of contention.

The breakfast was 10/10. Huge buffet with everything you could want, plus a menu for specialty items. The french toast was the best I have ever had! The staff was fantastic as well.

The bellman did a great job unpacking and packing our luggage into our car and offering excellent suggestions for our itinerary, but oddly (to me) stopped short of opening the car door for me (a female). He hovered around and was shocked when my guy finally came out of the hotel and around the car to open my car door for me - "oh, what a gentleman!". I guess my guy just spoils me. Lucky me. lol

The staff was beyond amazing. They treat you so well. Definitely 5 star staff. Levi at the front desk was amazing. Jose the head of the restaurant was impeccable. Fabulous dinner. I recommend going for dinner and staying in Sintra instead.

I unfortunately went during a very busy season. Wayyyy to many tourists for my personal taste. I went for a quiet getaway and got anything but. Was the night of a loud wedding. As soon as I settled to relax by the pool..sound check for their DJ. The room didn’t look like anything in the promotional photos. Was a bit shabby for 440$ a night. Do not go in July and do not get a garden facing room unless you want to be in all the tourists’ photos and hear all the delivery trucks idling in the morning. It seemed a bit loud for a palace with solid walls. The walk to Sintra was a nightmare. Just way too many people. I was told to come in October. And the bed was a bit lumpy for a “luxury hotel”.

We felt truly spoilt when we’re welcomed by the front staff with typical Lisbon drinks and snacks. We hadn’t booked some tickets to the palaces and the concierge (sorry I forgot your name) promptly booked them and our restaurant for lunch. He provided us with information about sintra and gave us a tour of the hotel. We spotted their white peacock on their property. Gorgeous Breakfast and our sunny room with a view was wonderful. The staff was exceptional. Perfect location for visiting sintra Thank you for taking care of us.

The hotel, an old palacio, was gorgeous, in lovely grounds. The rooms were decorated with frescoes and old furniture matching the style of the palace. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The included buffet breakfast had many great options to chose from (or have it all!). The tasting menu dinner was delicious and an evening drink on the terrace watching the sun go down was beautiful. There is a path opposite the hotel that shortcuts the hill walk up to Pena Palace or Moorish Castle. It is fairly rough but fine for those who are steady on their feet. Not far from Regaleira palace and Sintra town either.

Probably being fussy here but the furniture is not as comfortable as modern furniture! Looks beautiful but not so functional. It would be difficult to use the room as a place to work.

Stunning palace and views, beautiful building, especially the upstairs dining room (very memorable). Grand rooms with comfortable bed and linens. Spa was wonderful. Staff was very friendly, responsive, accommodating and helpful. Especially the breakfast staff!

Bed frame was a bit small and furniture was overall not very comfortable. We were underwhelmed by dinner. Cannot temperature regulate the air conditioning/heating system in the room. We woke up to 3 very large spiders on our last day (we were on the ground floor).

Very central location in Sintra, quite, great view, historic building, very good and nice service, good bistro and restaurant, excellent breakfast.

We were wondering how to describe the experience in the hotel best, and we came to the following conclusion: A typical french "chateaux" type of hotel, with excellent service and restaurant. Typical french "chateaux" refers to suboptimal 5-star experience, the location and rooms are in an OKish state, but not good or perfect: No shower at the pool, shower in the room is worse than 4 star hotel, walls under renovation, garden somehow dry (?), .... So we did not got 5-star rooms, but then the price was OK for that.

The property is at the top of the mountain! The views are simply spectacular! The food was outstanding and the staff are lovely. The pool is relaxing, the grounds were being updated, but this did not reduce the allure. Even though they are in the midst of updating, which one really needs to appreciate…,if you are going to Sintra, give this place a chance. Room 24 is so wonderful. The view out the side window… 😍

The road to get there is riddled with traffic, frequent one ways, and a little frustration. Totally worth all that.

What’s not to like about wandering up the wide drive of a palace and knowing you have bed for the night? From the hand-painted walls and ceilings to the serene swimming pool that offers a glimpse of the sea, there is just so much here to love. The staff is extremely welcoming, kind and funny. It was divinely quiet and so very comfortable.
