Staying at Hôtel Château de Cavanac has been a really magical experience. It’s a 15th Century chateau—it was built in 1612 as a hunting lodge for Compte Syrah (Syrah wine and grapes come from this region). The chateau has remained in their family all these years. The owner, Paul, is on-site and very accommodating. The very spacious rooms, swimming pool, restaurant and staff have all been wonderful! 10/10 Highly recommend!

This is an authentic 500 year old chateau, so of course there are some small idiosyncrasies, but they are minor: creaky entrance stairs. Our AC needed service (due to 100°+ days), and the staff got it repaired right away while we were out for the morning. Our in-room safe locked with our jewelry inside, but the staff quickly got it repaired. It’s been a wonderful experience!

The room was so charming and comfortable....temperature control throughout the hotel was perfect even though the outside temperature fluctuated 12degC to 22degC. Breakfast was delightful...staff so attentive and helpful... egg boiling bath was first I've seen in a hotel...eggs fresh and delicious. We kept the restaurant for our last two nights.....the experience was superb...,a converted cow shed it is so warm and inviting.....chefs are experienced and skilled. Carcassonne is a short distance and parking free and paying is readily available.

Nothing !! but I do appreciate the effort it takes to keep this historic Chateau to this high standard. You have to admire how out houses have been repurposed and incorporated into the main building.

Beautiful Chateau with an exceptional restaurant. Gorgeous village location, with many traditional features and character. The swimming pool is stunning and very in keeping with the natural, beauty of the landscape and Chateau. The staff were very obliging and looked after us throughout our two day stay. They also were very tolerant of our very little knowledge of French which was very much appreciated. Hopefully, when we return, we will have improved. Perfect location to visit many surrounding places/ vineyards. We will most definitely will visit again.

The taxis were unreliable and not easy to locate on arrival at the train station. Would advise hiring a car to make travelling around the area easier. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room are usually provided with other similar hotels we have stayed at. Maybe something the hotel could provide for guests?

We chose the chateau as we wanted to try somewhere a bit posher than the budget places that we usually stay. The hotel lived up to expectations, atmospheric, interesting furniture, lovely drapes and bedding . Nice sheets, comfy bed. We slept well. It was more expensive than we usually pay, but it was a treat.

Our bath was grubby, initially when filled it the water was an unattractive brown. I let the water out, used the bath mat to clean the bath and then enjoyed a soak in hot water. The restaurant was expensive so we went into Carcassonne for a meal. We thought 14.5 euros too expensive for a light breakfast.

Stayed for one night on my travels.Big old building that clearly takes a lot of maintenance but charming, quirky and clean. Rooms are very nice, beds comfortable.Evening meal was really good, big French cuisine. Breakfast was good although I was a bit late and fruit and cereals had not been restocked but it was enough for me. Lovely outside courtyard for dinning. Me. Pool was good and clean. Great value for money.

Although Hôtel was fairly busy and has a large lounge area there is No bar for pre or post dinner drinks but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Shower duche not fixed to wall and has to be held which is awkward. Fridge would be nice in room.

The chateaux was very tastefully modernised and furnished. Rooms were very spacious and had very comfortable bed. The breakfast was included (although not stipulated in booking) and the food was excellent. We had two evening meals which were 3 courses and included wine. There's an excellent choice and extremely good quality and value for money. The pool was delightful, refreshing in the heat but with shade if you want it, and so relaxing.

Only downside was there was no kettle in the room but everything else being so good made up for it.

I loved this hotel. Staff were lovely, the pool area is amazing and not overcrowded, breakfast was great and the restaurant area has such a lovely atmosphere at night. The room was charming with a very large bathroom and comfortable bed. I highly recommend this place.

There are only two things I can think of that would improve Chateau de Cavanac and that is a fridge in the room and better jnternet.

We liked the fact that the hotel was reopened last year and we could go back! It’s a great hotel with a fantastic restaurant, great pool and rooms are large and good value. Staff really helpful as well- it’s an old chateau but to experience some of traditional France you can’t do better - we will return next year and can’t wait!

Nothing . Possibility of getting just a sandwich lunchtime would be a bonus.

Great location just out of Carcassonne and easily reached from motorway - we stayed on our way from Sarlat to Provence Lovely welcome and assistance from William - Old fashioned but large clean and well equipped bedrooms and suites. The restaurant attached was a pleasant surprise and we were very impressed with their range of food, service, wine from their vineyard and value older Money

The room was very spacious and well decorated with a four poster bed and a chaise longue. The service in the restaurant was very good and the starter was great. We’ve visited this restaurant a few times and were slightly disappointed with the main course (not enough to complain about but we thought it a bit bland). We were celebrating my birthday so hoped it would be really special.
