Everything about the Casa Ortega has real character, from the red walls and stairways to the vintage flamenco LPs framed on the walls. The breakfast area is charming, and the owner Caroline engages with her guests during breakfast -- she gave me great tips on local restaurants and customs. The Casa Ortega has a personal, welcoming atmosphere, much appreciated in a city this big. My room was a pleasant, quiet retreat from all the heat and excitement of Marseille after long days of touring the city. The hotel is a convenient few minutes' walk from the train station but just far enough away from it, too. It's only about a 15-minute walk down the nearby Rue de Athene to the center of town and the Old Port. Highly recommended!

There is occasionally noise from the street outside, but it died down before midnight and I wasn't much disturbed by it.

My husband and I were so glad to have discovered Casa Ortega, but also to meet the amazing Caroline - who it must be said is truly a Marseille legend ! For many years travelled, and to many places visited, we have never encountered such a dedicated , kind , interesting and all round wonderful host as Caroline. On this returning visit we arrived in a terrible heatwave to just drop off bags early, but seeing that we were distressed after our stifling journey Caroline, without prompting, prepared our room extra early so as we could gain sanctuary in our own lovely air conditioned space. It was truly an act of kindness for which we were so grateful. Caroline even helped us with our heavy luggage up the winding stairs to the second floor - and this was all just upon our arrival, what a welcome !! I wish that I had more review space in which to pour further praise, but suffice to say Caroline is truly an outstanding host as reinforced through our further dealings with her. As well as being exceptionally and professionally managed , the hotel itself is ideally located for those travelling to Marseille St. Charles mainline station as it is positioned right across the road in a small side street. As well as super convenient, this accommodation offers a peaceful and welcoming oasis from the surrounding hustle and bustle. Inside you are greeted by the most quaint and welcoming bijou reception area. Our senses were truly wowed as we followed on up the characterful stairway and into our individually decorated and welcoming room. We loved this hotel and were so charmed by its inspiring and inventive designing. Whether it is due to the historical flamenco echoes of the past (do ask Caroline), or the interesting melange of decorative designs punctuated by an inspiring collection of furnishings through the modern ages , we were truly charmed.

The breakfast was very good (yummy expresso, viennoiseries, home made yogurt and jams, fresh bread)and Caroline, the hostess was always very helpful to give recommendations for the day and chat in general. The room, well decorated, was pleasant with ac and wifi and available water and coffee/tea, every day cleaned.

I think everything was marvelous. It is a small maison d’hôtes with 6 rooms and one should just have expectations of what they book. Well located next to the train station, it only takes 8mn walking to the vieux port.

Casa Ortega's is next to the main station in Marseille, so the location is very convenient if you need to catch a train. The surroundings might look dodgy at times, but it is actually very nice and typical, we really enjoyed it. The room as an a/c for the hot days, which is very useful since temperature goes up quite easily in the building during summer. Caroline, the host, is very available and helpful with a lot of suggestions to visit Marseille.

The room is small and you have to use very steep stairs to get there, without elevator.

Casa Ortega is perfectly located a few minutes from the train station and so in a great location for exploring the city. The BnB is beautifully decorated and we loved both our room and the lovely reception area where you can enjoy the generous breakfast. Caroline was an excellent host, overing us plenty of tips for exploring the city and the surrounding area. I would highly recommend, and hope to visit again some day if I'm lucky enough to return.

Lovely personal B&B in the city centre! The host is super lovely and helpful, she really takes care of the visitors. She had upgraded my room and prepared me a vegan breakfast and gave helpful advice for my visit. Rooms are cute and A/C and Wi-Fi worked well. Lovely views from the balcony. The B&B is just opposite to the railway station which was nice and it was easy to find. Late arrival was no problem, I got a code and good instructions to get the key and to find my room.

Remember to bring earplugs and a sleep mask if you are a light sleeper. Birds outside made some noise (not much though) and the curtains don’t block all the light.

The location next to the station was perfect for exploring Marseille, and going on day trips to other regions nearby by train! The air conditioning in the room helped us recover from the heat of summer in Marseille every night. Breakfast was great, and Caroline always had helpful advice about the city and other activities we could do.

Nothing! Just make sure you know the rooms are all up staircase, in case a member of your group cannot walk up stairs. It was a great place to stay!

We loved Caroline, the hostess. She is really nice, warm and careful. At breakfast, we had the feeling that we were guests at her home. Great breakfast, with delicios homemade yoghurt and jams. She gave us priceless advice, too. The apartament has an original, retro design, and is very close to the train station. Thank you, Caroline! Hope to see you again!

We liked everything about this well-run chic B&B. The decor, the ambience, the comfortable bed, the excellent shower, the wonderful breakfasts and the helpfulness and friendliness of Caroline, the owner-manager who really cares about her guests. The most memorable hotel that we have stayed in for a while. For the traveller arriving and departing by train it is but a few steps away from the main railway station, St Charles. (Note that the guest rooms are on many floors, and there is no lift so it may be a consideration for those with mobility issues. You could always check before booking if 'our' room on level 1 is available!)
